So I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but my natural question would be "How do you tell the team you are playing to win, given Fitzpatrick's performances these last few weeks?"
4093 yards, 27 TDs and 19 INTs on 70% completions. Pretty ballsy. It could backfire if it turns out Tua needed more time to watch when they had a perfectly good veteran to play in the meantime.

The goal is to win a title. Fitzpatrick's a placeholder. He's a good placeholder, but he's not going to be the starter for the next 10 years. Tua might be. You put the next building block in place and see if it's solid.
or the rest of the Dolphins players are upset about this. Everyone knows what Fitz is capable of at this point and if Tua hasn't at least shown more talent than that in practice, then it was a bad selection.
Just because he's a rookie and will have growing pains, doesn't mean he doesn't give them a better chance to win, especially with his talent. It could open up a lot with the offense.
the entire franchise knew the plan, and now that plan is being executed.
The fans may grumble, but they weren't going on a big playoff run with Fitz anyway so they will have a short memory on it.
This is a really good decision.
Disagree. They were on a playoff run if the Pats continue to struggle. Risk of switching QBs is losing the team, most of whom just want to win. If Tua is great in practice and the team knows that he is the better QB for now and the future, then it will work. If not, this could be a spectacular crash.
He's always had streaks of good play followed by streaks of poor play. Maddeningly inconsistent. But I guess consistency is what separates the greats from the averages.
so this is Fitz's year not to turn back into a pumpkin? Flores isn't losing that team over switching to Tua, they all knew the plan. He has a command of that team, IMO.
Figures...I pick up Fitz last week...he plays well for me
and Fitz has thrown multiple INT's in 3 games already this season. Flores likely wants to control the clock and limit turnovers which is supposed to be what Tua excels at (11 Ints in over 600 attempts in college).

All true...for the BIG Picture/Long-Term. What do you tell the guys that won't be on that team after this season?
Again, I probably would make the change as well, but this is an issue for those players...they know how wel Fitz is playing right now.
BIGGER QUESTION: Would Miami trade Fitz to Dallas?
but they probably want to see what they have in Tua ASAP to see if they will need to pull an Arizona.
I really doubt this is their thinking. They have already played themselves out of a top draft pick. I bet they just think he is ready. Flores has been impressive and has earned my benefit of the doubt.
and the sooner they know about Tua the better, regardless of what their pick will be.
And while I don’t think it’s the #1 reason they are making this move it’s certainly a factor that will constantly live in the background. They are making the most because it was their plan the whole time and Fitz really hasn’t given them a reason to walk it back.
They have a great pan and they are sticking to it.
but they probably want to see what they have in Tua ASAP to see if they will need to pull an Arizona.
They won't have the chance. No way the Jets are getting 3 wins...
Au contraire, mon corn fritter. They own the Texans first round pick this offseason. They'll have enough draft capital to move up, as need be.
Scuttlebutt is, they indeed are treating this like an audition. Ten games. Perhaps the hip is still wonky. Perhaps they can see something that gives them a better idea if Lawrence or even Fields might be a better option. Food for thought... the number five overall pick not even a year ago. A new day and age in the NFL. You may not get 3 years anymore.
Of course start Tua. That’s why they drafted him. And if he gets nicked up or injured they can always bring in the leprechaun. Fitz was never anything more than a stop gap. Phins seem like they’re building something.
I love how because it happened once now it’s accepted
as complete norm that QBs can get jettisoned after a year
News flash- that only happened because Rosen is terrible and doesn’t have the right attitude to play in the NFL. Not saying he’s a bad dude, but I just don’t get the sense he wants it enough.
Combine that with a coach who had had a thing for Kyler since high school for his offense coming in year 1. Unusual set of circumstances.
Guys get 3 years to prove themselves because A - they are cheap and B - it’s about the time you get the answer whether they are making the jump from acceptable to good.
Having a QB on his rookie deal is such an advantage. I think you want to install them as fast as you can. Also, you need to be completely sold by end of year 3 when you need to exercise the 5th year option. So I think the days of giving highly rated QBs a year to learn by watching are over.
I’m sure this was their plan from draft day if Tua’s hip was sound. A decent start under Fitz is no reason to deviate from that plan. He’s the future and I’m sure the Dolphins are thrilled that they got the good part if Fitz’ usually up and down year.
is reportedly really upset about the benching. I get planning for the future, but in that division, the Dolphins could be in playoff contention well into the year.

Would they even have an opportunity to pull an Arizona? I think they're too good to count on having an opportunity to draft a top QB.

Too bad someone already has Tua.
My starters this week will be Danny Dimes & Carr.
This really is a no brainer if he's 100% healthy.
