not sure if I read this correctly of if this is a good source:

Scott and
@Sportico
have been on top of this sale.

Per Scott, Steve Cohen’s bid was approved by the MLB owners committee.

Next is review by the Commissioner’s Executive Council. That should take place shortly after the World Series

We’re getting there ..

this isn't the owners vote. That has yet to happen. This is the subcommittee that reports to the owners.
if there was a last hurdle to clear this should have been it

MLB has now vetted Cohen and given it their blessing. I'd imagine everything will be official a week or so after the WS at the start of the offseason. I'll be looking forward to this next press conference a lot more than the one a couple years ago.
The

vote isn't yet on the league calendar. Expectation would be within the 5-day window following the WS but that has yet to be determined. Sandy potentially could serve as 2021 GM but other names have emerged. Angels may snipe Owens if we don't act (assuming the Mets want him).
Martino

has mentioned 4 names as potential GM. Yet to see anyone suggest Brodie has any chance of returning as GM. Mets oddly sitting out ALL of the IFA market this off-season. You lose your IFA pool if you don't use it so unless they suddenly land Cespedes brother (tied to the White Sox) or Oscar Colas this seemingly is one final parting "gift" from the Wilpons.
I heard the Mets her in on our picture name is Susanna

When do you have to use the pool by?

They have until 12/2021, however they are not connected to ANY of the top 50 IFA's, forget "premium" names, names outside the top 50 are small bonus guys. To spend 5.3 million on guys like that is close to impossible.

As Sportico 1st reported, MLB’s Ownership Committee has approved Steve Cohen to be the #Mets owner. Heard the vote was 7-1 in favor. Next to the 8-owner Executive Committee, then the full ownership group where he needs 23 votes. But this was a huge hurdle and Cohen cleared it.

Vote wasn't unanimous. Things are looking good, but I won't be comfortable until he gets the full 23 votes.

Presumably, that was Jerry Reinsdorf which we "knew" to be a no vote all along
Please forgive my ignorance but...
Drewcon40 : 10/20/2020 2:38 pm : link
...what exactly is Jerry Reinsdorf's problem with Cohen? Because he is close to A-Rod - didn't vote no against Cohen's Dodger attempt?
Ifa $ doesn’t go to waste, per say

Valuable trade chip if someone wants to go over to sign kids
IMO, that’s a mistake. You don’t have to sign the biggest names. But you gotta spend

He's close with A-Rod for one thing but he's also always been staunchy against free spending and spending on the draft. There could be a personal aspect we are unaware of but that's never really been touched on.

IFA money (when traded) doesn't generally bring back much. 243,000 in IFA money for example brought back Jarrod Dyson who was hitting a robust .157 at the time of the trade. Not really sure what the Mets are thinking here. Even in past seasons when they didn't chase the "top" guys they still were in on top 20-25 names. Outside the 50 are truly "meh" "who knows?" and low bonus names.
thanks Dan....

...one more question for you or anyone - are we past the point where his vote has any relevance? Do we still get the 23 votes?

They really only need 22 votes (Fred gets to vote). The only way this doesn't go through is if something pops up between now and the vote that was unknown. It's the Mets so assume the worst but I'd be stunned.
Thanks Dan...

Looking forward to Cohen's ownership of the Mets.
It's
DanMetroMan : 10/20/2020 4:07 pm : link
nearly impossible to come up with a scenario where this is a bad thing. Bottom line is this... since 2000 (20 seasons) 9 seasons over .500, 7 seasons of 85 or more wins, and 11 seasons with 80 or less wins (should be 12 if you consider this years pace).
Here it comes....

Mets sale: New York Mayor Bill de Blasio a hurdle for Steve Cohen

Not to get political, but this guy is one of the most loathsome douche bags on the planet.

notable quotes:
Quote:
...The 2006 Stadium Lease Agreement between the New York City Industrial Development Agency and Queens Ballpark Company provides the city consent rights to deny the Mets and their stadium be transferred to a person who has committed a felony.

Cohen was never charged with a crime, but in 2013 his former hedge-fund company, S.A.C. Capital Investors, pleaded guilty to securities fraud and wire fraud. The company agreed to pay $1.8 billion in fines in one of the largest criminal cases against a hedge fund. Cohen, in a civil suit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, was prohibited from managing outside money for two years.

In the stadium lease agreement, Cohen is technically classified as a “prohibited person,’’ which the agreement defines as “any person that has been convicted in a criminal proceeding for a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude.’’...

Not sure I understand. It says he was never even charged with a crime, so how can he be "any person that has been convicted in a criminal proceeding for a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude"

Sounds like someone wants a kickback.
