"Per Pro Football Focus, Sheard has generated at least 30 quarterback pressures in each of his nine NFL seasons and exceeded 60 pressures three times, including in 2017 and 2018 with the Colts. While he hasn't surpassed 5.0 sacks in a season since 2015, he's been very consistent, registering at least 4.5 sacks in all but one season since entering the league and hitting double digit quarterback hits four of the past five years. When it comes to creating turnovers and pass deflections, Sheard has excelled in both areas, forcing 13 fumbles and racking up 27 passes defensed. He's also been disruptive getting into the backfield with 71 career tackles for loss and has been a reliable run defender throughout his career." Link - ( New Window )
He's a bigger name as a midseason add, but there was also probably a reason he was on a practice squad.
He was a UFA after last season, so this sounds to me almost like a Snacks Harrison/Seattle situation, where Jax had him on the PS until he gets in to game shape. This guy has been a fairly solid performer, I like this move.
And what I saw of Mayo this past weekend was enough. Does Coughlin or Brown or even Fackrell play there?
Mayo certainly on run downs. I guess they could go back to Downs or try Brunson. I would hate to move Fackrell inside seeing how well he is doing on the outside.
RE: RE: If all he does on Thursday is rush on 3rd and longs and generate
At this point he is veteran depth that doesn't have to learn how to play in the NFL. Hopefully he love left in the tank to keep our heads above water. At least the team is trying.
I wonder if the answer to missing linebackers is to play more down lineman than originally planned to cover for the loss of Lbs. I rather have a better down line more often than a LB out there more often getting toasted.
Only negative on Sheard is that he is 31. It seems he will replace
and he can play DE in 4-3 looks, instead of Fackrell.
He's not a replacement for Crowder at ILB.
Any word on whether the Giants might try Coughlin at ILB? When he was drafted I've thought that this would be a good move for him. He doesn't have the reach to be a pass rushing OLB but he is reportedly solid in coverage and a smart player. He seems like a natural fit inside.

I wonder how bad Crowder is? Is it IR for the season or that short term kind?

I think it's a hamstring injury, so imagine it's a short term thing.

Sheard has to go through COVID protocol, so he won't suit up on Thursday
this is a bad sign for our OLBs.
question: has fackrell been playing ILB?

Or more likely a replacement for Carter and Ximenes.
Fuck, Carter's injury really pisses me off. He was really coming on this year.

@art_stapleton
Giants played some 4-man fronts vs. Washington with Leonard Williams/B.J. Hill and Kyler Fackrell at the ends.
And Fackrell played every snap.
Would imagine they don't want to do that over the long haul. Sheard also takes pressure off Cam Brown, may also get Coughlin ILB work.
question: has fackrell been playing ILB?
No, but he has been in coverage quite a bit. The middle has been Martinez,Crowder, Downs and Mayo.
And he only played 15 snaps:). 1 PD, 2 QBH and a lost sack that didnt count due to a penalty.
Works for me.....their fans do seem pretty pissed that he wasnt on the active roster.

Seems like a good 1-year pickup.

About Jabaal Sheard: He’s, at best, a rotational pass rusher. I wouldn’t expect much more than that. Signed for depth
He's not a replacement for Crowder at ILB.
