to get a fair look at DJ. Judging him based on this crap is impossible, and Slayton is now nicked up and Shephard can't stay on field. Unless both them stay on the field this year, how do you even begin to evaluate DJ? I hate to admit it, but there may be an argument to go Fields if he doesn't clean up the turnovers by years end. Personally I think they should go after Brown. He'd probably go for it to because he would be unquestioned number 1 target.
I don't ascribe to this but we played the Rams, Steelers, Bears evenly, had a chance to win those games, teams never stay the same in December as they are in September/October, they either improve or decline. For too many years we have seen declining efforts, does that mean that some of our talent cant step up to the plate and actually improve?
I am getting fed up with our TE, and Slayton is dinged up, and no other youngster has thus far displayed ability, but we watch to see improvement and if Jones gets help from an improving OL, and Judge gets the most out of what he has we can win 7 or 8 games on our way to more success next year.
Again that is the rose colored glasses view, but we are fans right?

If Judge finds a way to win 7 games with this cast of characters we may have our answer at HC for the next two decades, which would be really nice.
To go along with another thread getting action today
regarding the D-Line players. Is there any reason whatsoever we shouldn't see the NY Giant Defensive Line led by Leonard Williams dominate at the LOS?
And not talking about holding them under 100 yards rushing and 1-2 sacks. They need to manhandle the Eagle running game with backups, and their backups, playing everywhere. Don't even allow a meddling 3 or 4 yard run...stop them for no gain. Even better create negative plays and penalties.
You want $18M a year with a big guarantee Leonard? Tomlinson sure as hell wants a nice second contract. And Lawrence isn't a rookie any longer.
Take control of the game and dominate their OL from the start like we have constantly seen Eagle teams do to the Giants.
I like to think that other than SF we have been in every game played, mostly against good comp. and that maybe we can turn those close losses into more than few wins as this team grows together.
but pessimistically - and probably, realistically - we simply do not have the talent to be anything other than a 3-4 win team again... particularly as the injuries start to mount.
of mindset at the end of the half or game regarding the defense. I think it's going into a rush 3 or 4, keep everything in front mentality that's hurt this defense for years.
On offense, Jones is a weapon running the football, it's one of the main reasons he started his carrier with a W at Tampa Bay. He needs to keep the ball more early in the game on the RPOs so that the backside defenders stop crashing down on every running play - should lead to more success on the ground. The QB draw in the red zone has been wide open as well, only used it once and almost scored from 14 yards out. For some unknown reason they had Lewis, who was flanked out wide right, motion in next to Jones - it was the LBer on him who made the tackle.
And if memory serves me, on that QB draw which fell a step short,
Jones was waiting for a goal-line block that never came. His blocker just kinda stood there as if he were setting a screen instead of blocking. The defender blew it up easily.
Actually they scored more then 16 points in 2 games......
On offense, I think Freeman is integral right now to the success of the offense.
On Defense, Graham also needs to figure out how to get the Giants off the field on 3rd down. They are last, IIRC, allowing 3rd down conversions on over 50% of attempts. Bend but don’t break is good in certain circumstances, but we need to be able to hand the ball to our Offense more. They need more drives and opportunities to score. There is very little margin for error since we are not getting the ball on offense enough.
Maybe this is the game that our place kicker finally sends us out winners!
Actually Eric, you’re right about Offense scoring only
Jones was waiting for a goal-line block that never came. His blocker just kinda stood there as if he were setting a screen instead of blocking. The defender blew it up easily.
During the broadcast they pointed out that it was most likely Thomas' responsibility, he didn't get a good initial block on his first assignment so he had to stay with them longer behind the LOS instead of getting out in front of Jones. After they showed the replay it seemed like Thomas reacted in a way that he knew he messed up, probably would have been a TD if that is what happened and that pretty much sums up the team for the better part of a decade.

The noise about DJ is unfair. The guy makes plays: stands in the ‘pocket,’’ runs hard, has a quick release and is pretty darn accurate. Eli was not this good when he started. Any other QB would fare much worse.
Run the ball, whether it is with Jones or Freeman, slow down their edge rushers make them hesitate with the zone read.
For Jones obviously no turnovera but alao if you see green grass in front of you take off, get those free 5 to 10 yards you can get..
Work the screen game, get guys oit in space, Schwartz is agressive use that against him..
Defensively:
Their Oline is beat up, Johnson is playing but he hasnt been able to make it through a game i put the speed guy in golden on passing downs against him. This is a game where you want to see williams, tomlinson and lawrence dominate.
No Sanders is big for them, their passing game is non existant..
I would play 3 safeties all night, can not let Wentz beat you with his legs, i play Peppers up close to the line next to martinez, they dont habe a power running game. Let peppers spy on Wentz all game..
The reason being is we are SO lacking in talent and not just at that position, that to bring in a practice squad player AGAIN, I think sends the wrong message. Why not trade a late round 2021 and a 3rd in 2022 for John Ross III or someone of that level with the possibilty to extend them cheaply might be a good option. Not adding talent and stockpiling draft picks isn't exactly a proven strategy. They have 5 draft picks now and would need to hit on ALL of them to improve. Why not add someone with proven potential in the league. Hell maybe you can get hi cheaper or for a current player (DL is the only area I could think of).
RE: Interesting Jones stat in an article on the Athletic tonight
Nobody has a higher blitz percentage (Jones has been blitzed on 41.6% of his passing plays)
That is what you do to a young QB until he shows he can beat it. Until he starts beating it that will continue. Also doesn't help that DCs see the number of fumbles and start drooling pre-game.

Consistency from this DL has evaded them. They've had games where they should have dominated and only just kind of showed up. Its like they alternate who had a good game between Williams and Lawrence.
you just can't look at the early part of this season as representative of anything.
Not only did this brand new head coach not get an offseason, he lost Saquon Barkley for the year and had nobody available to carry the load who knew the offense. (Still don't know why Gallman is on this team if he couldn't step in.)
They had both hands tied behind their back.
If they look incompetent tonight I'll eat my hat, but with Freeman stabilizing the offense and the team settling into the system, this is pretty much a new season. At least they are entering the fight without their hands tied.
and to me, this is another one of those system teams that has had their offense/program in place for several years.
Yes mouth-breathers will say we should destroy their backups but they are much farther along as an organization right now and that is how something like the SF game happens.
Their 2nd stringers were still able to out-execute the Giants and it's not that surprising. We are talking about the NFL where everyone is physically talented.
to win more than 4 games, unless they run into a considerable number of backup QBs and badly banged up opponents.
Spot on, Eric,
that's exactly what their schedule has been so far. and they have 1 win, which should have been a loss minus a fluke sack fumble and riverboat ron going for 2 instead of overtime
They have tonight's game set as a cake walk for the Eagles to win. The sports radio stations in Philly are also predicting an easy win for the Eagles for tonight and a few weeks from now.
I know the Giants are not a good team right now,and won't be for the next few years, but I would love to see Big Blue win tonight!
I'm tired of seeing the Giants lose, and I'm not convinced that Daniel Jones is legit, but being a diehard Giants fan I just want them to win.
The Eagles have owned the Giants for the past decade, so it's time to end their domination.
GO BIG BLUE!!

To win 4, we will likely have to beat the Eagles and Cowboys and sweep the WTF. Don’t see us winning a game outside the division
but pessimistically - and probably, realistically - we simply do not have the talent to be anything other than a 3-4 win team again... particularly as the injuries start to mount.

I think the Eagles win this game 20 - 10. We just don't have enough on offense to compete.

It will be like 50%+ tonight.
Giants need to play faster, quicker decisions from Jones and the OL on blitzes/stunts, and make Defenses pay for exposing their back end.
Usually only takes one missed tackle and you have a big play.
