Absolutely top notch. I have been to Pepe's, DeMarco's was a Manhattan location owned by DiFara, L& B Spumoni Gardens, Grimaldis, Ralph's in Nutley, Star Tavern, and Pizzatown USA in Elmwood Park and this place was the best of the bunch. Crust was the best I have ever had. We got 3 pies, the 1964 (standard plain pie), the 2011 (cheese base top with san marzano tomatoes) and a sausage and pepperoni. Happily ate out of the trunk of my denali in beautiful Elizabeth NJ and me and my friend barely exchanged words. He had just done Colony and Nancy's Townhouse (or whatever) within the last two weeks and said this place was better.
Anyways, highly recommended and worth every minute of the half hour trip each way from Bloomfield.
I also heard there was a great place in West Caldwell, but am having trouble remembering the name if anybody cpuld help me out.
It used to be a great place.... Bar with nice bar pies where you and a friend could get like 4 of them with different toppings and just crush. But its just that....a bar pie. I loved their pepperoni.
Apparently they remodeled the place from the nice wood interior to this space of gray and maroon and the pizza hasnt been much better than a Tombstone pizza...undercooked. Star isnt my fave either but it was good in my opinion.
It was my first time in Elizabeth in like 26 years. Haha, but I'll keep it in mind.
Mike's jealous. He only get's pizza with Provel in Saint Louis!! Imo's forever!!!
The pizza sucks here so I freeze them and reheat at my leisure. I offered her a pie but she refused.
It was a funny moment.

Daniel, great thing about Santillos is its right next to the airport and the crust is so firm it could stay several hours in an overhead ready to get a quick reheat in the oven at your destination!
Lived in my place in Bloomfield for going on 2 years. Previously lived in Montclair for over 20 with a long stretch in Philly in between.
Yeah, but a trip to Nancy's in fucking Rahway is a tough sell. Lol
I’ll catalogue it
All the above joints make pizzas that rival some of Italy's (or NYC's) best...
I'd love to see a bit more imagination in the toppings here, like I have seen in the better pizzarie in places like Verona and Torino, and most of all yearn for the place that understands a real "mushroom" pizza has well sauteed caramelized mushrooms "provençal" on it...
The "hard crust that "holds up for hours in a box" doesn't exactly sound like my dream for a pizza either, to be honest. Although that's what I grew up with in the Bronx 50 years ago.
To each their own.

how long have you lived in Bloomfield?

Are you originally from Montclair? I ask because that’s my hometown, haven’t lived there in a few years though due to being in the military (retired a few years ago), but my family still lives there and in East Orange
I'm surprised it hasn't really taken off. It's much improved and has a lot of potential but everytime I've gone, which admittedly isn't often, it's pretty dead.
Broad St Elizabeth is worse than it was in the past. Maybe with all the new developments they are building in the area it'll clean up.
No on has better lemon ice though than the little corner store in the Burg in Elizabeth (Peterstown)
And chowing down out of the back of your SUV is hilarious, truly Jersey. Have a slice or pie for me!
Because society is a collection of Michael Scotts?

I always enjoy reading these threads. Although I'm currently living full time in the Hudson Valley, and not in Brooklyn any more. These threads are a reminder that, while there are certainly disadvantages to living the the NY metro area, pizza is not one of them. And there's actually some pretty decent pizza up here too.
Forte's.
Their is a newer place in Caldell, Tony D's. Highly recommend and get the square pie.
Chopper, you gotta get the pie well done at star. Otherwise it has a tendency to be a little moist in the middle and the cheese runs.
What is your go to Bloomfield pizza spot?

You want Jersey Pizza, you gotta pay Jersey property tax.

Respectfully disagree re Spiritos, but wholeheartedly agree re the italian ice stand. An Elizabeth instution. Elizabeth has very few things to be proud of - basketball, pizza, and the italian ice stand. That's it.
But my favorite pizza in NJ, is Razza in Jersey City. It's neopolitan style and so it's not bar pie like many mentioned. But the bread is off the charts.

Im loyal to Dino's in in Montclair for my every day/delivery pizza.
Tried a few Bloomfield spots and they all kinda suck ass.
I think this is it.
I get it every time I visit my Dad on the way to LBI (and the way back)
