NFT: NBA Draft Rankings/Comps - Wings

NYG22 : 10/22/2020 9:45 am
Just my opinion, may not jibe with yours or common perception:

2s/SGs (weakest position in the draft):

1 Desmond Bane - Will be undervalued as all older draft-able players tend to be (which I think is foolish). Offensively, plays like a slightly less prolific Eric Gordon. Knock down shooter. Drives are straight line but decisive and no fear of traffic. Defensively he is ultra responsible, physical and communicative. Great intangibles. Kid is a winner.

2 Devin Vassell - Yes the video of him shooting was troubling. But he shot it well enough in college. Also has a nice pull up game. Most importantly, he's the 2nd best defensive wing in the draft. His defensive awareness is off the charts. Comp: Mikal Bridges.

3 Aaron Nesmith - Outstanding shooter who doesn't necessarily need to be stationary (can run people into screens, catch/shoot). Perhaps a bit subpar athletically. Better version of Reggie Bullock.

4 Isiah Joe - Heat check shooter with decent defensive ability.

4 Immanual Quickley - Long armed shooter with excellent defensive potential. Has some Avery Bradley in him. Only 6'3". Likely NYK target at 38.

5 Jahmius Ramsey - somewhat raw but intriguing scorer. Fearless. Likes all three levels in terms of where he can score from. 6'4" good frame, good athleticism. A lot of development is needed but there is something here. Comp: Dante Divencenzo

6 Josh Green - 6'5" and 210 and a plus athlete. Other than transition, has little offensive skill. Comp: Iman Shumpert.

7 Elijah Hughes - I just haven't seen enough of him to comment.

3s/SFs:

1 Deni Avdija - Serious competitor. Seems to have an approach like RJ Barrett or Dan Majerle which I believe to be a big asset. Constantly improving. Good not great athlete. Best as facilitator in transition. Isn't a shooter yet but its coming. Reminds me of a right handed Toni Kukoc.

2 Isaac Okoro - Best intangibles in the draft (smart, professional approach, great instincts, competitive). Has a physical/intimidating, "steal your will" mentality...almost like Ron Artest minus the insanity. Strong as a bull already at 6'6" 230. Can't shoot a lick at this point but otherwise useful/versatile on offense. Key questions are: Can the shot improve to the point of being average? Is his height an impediment from being a really good defender like PJ Tucker but not a great defender like Andre Iguodala?

3 Saddiq Bey - absolute lock to be a solid 3 who will compete like all Villanova players, shoot it well, be fundamentally sound, defend well. No a ton of upside though.

4/4a Patrick Williams and Precious Achiuwa - two guys with great bodies, athleticism and upside. But the bad news is that they are both sushi raw. I would bet on Williams before Achiuwa.

6 Robert Woodard - I like him a lot more than most write-ups and mocks I see. He's 6'7" 230, athletic as hell. 7'2" WS. The only problem is that he got a late start playing high level basketball because he was a top baseball pitching prospect. I envision him being a Danny Granger type and a great late 1st pick.

7 Jaden McDaniels - he's a lottery ticket. Tall, thin and skillful but a long way to go in terms of basketball IQ, maturity, compete level. I wouldn't bet much on him.

i wouldnt sleep on his upside. He's a guy who got a tone better from senior year of HS to freshman year at Nova, and then a ton better again to his sophmore year. His hoops IQ is off the charts and he's a total gym rat.I think a few years from now he could easily be an 18-20ppg scorer, 40% three pt shooter and a guy who defends well 1-4.

Point taken. Although a bit shorter, his body type and skillset reminds me of Marcus Morris. Who is your comp?

I agree that Bey has some potential. But if he's scoring 20PPG on 40% from 3 and defending 1-4- he's a max player.

I would love the Knicks to take a hard look at him...
for a comp

its tough for me to think of a true 1-to-1 but in college his game is reminiscent of jimmy butler with a much better shot. now i know JB has become this psycho who wills his team to wins so not making that comparison, but the similarities are there...big body, very strong, great iq, very good secondary ball handler, great passer, excellent defender, very competitive etc. im a nova guy so ive watched every game he's played in college. he's easily our best prospect since lowry.

I would love the Knicks to go with him. I think hes an excellent complement to RJ and I think he helps rebuild the culture. his floor is a as a good 3-and-D wing.

High praise. And nice review on your part!
You completely forgot about

Anthony Edwards who is a top 3 draft pick and a SG. Some people even have him going potentially no.1 in the draft. I wouldn’t say the 2’s are the weakest position in the draft when in actuality they have the highest upside players in the whole draft.
Also missing

Ty Haliburton as well. Come to think of it, looks like you’re missing a lot of the top guards that are considered 2’s. The thing with this class of guards is that a lot of them will be considered combo guards because they can play both the 1 and 2 and a few of them can play the 3 as well.
