Eric DeCosta

USCtoNYG : 10/22/2020 1:00 pm
This guy is playing chess while everybody else is playing checkers. Learned from a great GM, but now making everyone else in the league look like fools with every move he makes. He was number one on my list before the giants signed Dave, but I guess he was probably never leaving Baltimore. Happy for him and kinda hope he gets a ring (while we have no shot). But it's frustrating when guys like this are in a team's pipeline and we have Dave and Kevin.
He was never leaving Baltimore

Several franchises attempted to lure him away from Baltimore but they were either denied by Baltimore or DeCosta passed because he knew that he was future GM in Baltimore.

You can't criticize the Giants for this one because it wouldn't have happened.
this place is slipping

the thread is 20 minutes old, and yet no one has discredited DeCosta or tried to create an equivalency between him and DG by pointing out that the Ravens haven't won a playoff game recently.
If memory serves

The Bears, Dolphins, Jets and Bills all wanted DeCosta. In 2014, Ravens ownership quietly extended Ozzie Newsome for five years, and extended Decosta at the same time with the succession plan in contracts. DeCosta was paid GM money as the assistant GM, with the succession plan in place. Newsome even has stayed on. Talk about a well run franchise....

Meanwhile we have Tweedle D (John Mara) Tweedle Dumb (Chris mara) and an Umpa Lumpa (DG)

Or blamed Reese. Give it time though.

Why would anyone blame Reese? I bet they actually blame Marc Ross too!

Calm down.
Can't imagine he'd have left at that point

DG's first draft was already known to be Ozzie Newsome's last, with DeCosta waiting in the wings.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you blame Reese for his 2016 shopping spree, giving A money to B players?

Are just a cut above over the last few years. I think you put the Chiefs, Ravens, Seahawks, Patriots, and maybe Saints and Packers in the category. Not much else, and once upon a time the Giants were in that class, consistently in the hunt. Its not all about SB victories, but more so being in the hunt every year.

Absolutely. But he isn't at fault for the current shitshow.
I really hope that the Giants

look hard at the front offices of the Ravens, Patriots, and Steelers when searching for Gettleman's replacement.

Steelers?

Of course, should have put a disclaimer that I may have missed some. Not sure if there's anyone else from the NFC you might include in the mix.
I wasn't trying to call you out on missing one...

I was more throwing it out there as a team to debate.

They all more in the Saints/GB department than that top tier you mentioned.

I think the Steelers are definitely in the upper echelon. From the NFC, I think it's been a bit leaner in past years than the AFC. Saints and GB have been fairly consistent, as have the Seahawks.
Yeah I am sure DeCosta is a smart guy
NoGainDayne : 10/22/2020 4:08 pm : link
but sometimes too much credit goes to the person up top as opposed to the full org as lax pointed out.

And therein lies the problem with the Giants, I bet if DeCosta took over today it would be years before we were functioning at the same level as the Ravens, even with a large budget. The systems have to be built up, staffed, the staff has to learn how to integrate it in their decisions and preparation.

This is what I feared about the Giants going into this season and on an ongoing basis, even if Judge knows the types of information he wants to integrate just that isn't enough to know how to hire the right people to build that. Or how to get the people above him to properly integrate it into their thinking.
