Talked about the rough start. Still, said every week, the Giants have gotten a little bit better in different things. Compared it to the Dolphins last year, being destroyed out of the gate, then actually coming together a bit in the second half to be "not terrible" by season's end.
Also said if the Giants can pull off an upset tonight, Giants fans "have to be feeling pretty good about things." (He doesn't know the majority of BBI posters, apparently.)
He cited things that several of us are looking at as "good" signs: new coach/staff, new system, young QB learning his second system in 2 years, Barkley out, no pre-season games, for reasons for the lackluster start. Also said even though the record isn't good, the Giants have been semi-competitive most weeks so far.
He referred to the Jets as a "grease fire" and to the Falcons as a "re-start," and labeled those two as the only two teams in the league that are truly done.
Added that the Giants' defense is decent.
Anyhow, just a FWIW. I don't often here him say much positive about the Giants, so ... shared it.
I think Judge and the coaches have the players motivated and prepared, which are positives.
But, now they still need a ton of core talent and depth, and their drafting is still behind schedule.
James Bradberry
Blake Martinez
Kyler Fackrell
Nick Gates
Matt Peart
Andrew Thomas
Dalvin Tomlinson
Dexter Lawrence
Tae Crowder
What he's saying isn't polarizing though. People outside of BBIers who are called homers think there are things the Giants have been improving on each week.
Still, the young teen fan that still resides in me DOES perk up a bit when a national talking head says good things about my favorite team, especially when I happen to agree, and I think mostly objectively.
Take it or leave it, all.

This is a very accurate assessment. I agreed with Gettleman’s plan to remake the roster, build a strong oline and running game and then bring in a young QB to learn from Eli and then take over.
The problem is that when you commit to completely turn over a roster you need to have a success rate over 75 percent with the new players otherwise you are still rebuilding.
Quick rebuilds are usually with talented teams that are underperforming
with a Poor coaching staff. Easier to build on those situations.
Gettleman has found talent and good attitudes but not nearly enough to justify turning over an entire roster.
I feel like he is around a 50 percent success rate of some very good players and some huge misses and a lot of solid average role players.

that’s the biggest difference with Judge and other HC we’ve had in the future. I’m actually seeing guys improvising and getting better.
Yes and they actually make half time adjustments. Despite the record I am very happy so far with Joe Judge.
haha. hey it's a choice i guess. but as i said, i'll eat my hat if we go 4-12 this year and look bad down the stretch, i'll admit that i was way off.
The difference is that the Dolphins went 0-7 and were outscored 134-17 in their first three games.
I know there's holes on the roster, but they're steadily improving every week and I have full confidence in Judge getting them ready each week and getting the most out of them as he can given the circumstances.

I think you could add Gano, Logan Ryan, Leonard Williams and Riley Dixon as "solid developments"

lot of the Dolphins team last year. Pretty much open tryouts, developing players, fighting, and playing disciplined. The Dolphins were a tough out last year and found a way to win 5 games.

The comparison to the Dolphins is so apt that it really makes me wonder if there's a lot more upside the even those of us that are optimistic realize (especially given the state of the division).
We know Graham and the defense are capable - because he was running their defense last year (with mostly street FA).
Can Judge/Garrett get Jones going? It's hard to not compare our offensive personnel very favorably to the Dolphins last year.
To your point this team is already well ahead of the Dolphins first half performance. What if that trend continues with the 2nd half?
However, if the Giants can control the lines tonight, they will have a good shot to win. That Eagle OL and DL have destroyed our game in the past.
We need to attack their OL and protect and hope holes vs. their DL.
You sound like fucking Eeyore.
I wonder how some of you guys manage to get out of bed in the morning.

Also, unlike the Dolphins he compared us to, we don't have as bright of a future as far as sheer amount of high draft picks are concerned.
Dallas has a bunch of money tied up into underperforming vets (Elliott, Tyron Smith, Jaylon Smith, Lawrence) and made a horrible mistake in hiring McCarthy.
Philly is tied to a mediocre QB, has an aging OL and DL, and minimal young talent
WFT is WFT
Giants- I think Joe Judge is the right guy for the job and they at least have young talent. Barkley, Slayton, Lawrence all are studs. Plus Martinez, Williams and Bradberry are all “young-vets” playing at a high level.
And other young guys like Thomas, Peart, Crowder, McKinney and Holmes that are developing.

I didn't add them because I think all of them will be gone after the season with the exception of Dixon. I do hope that Gano is brought back. It's nice having a dependable veteran kicker again.
I'd love LOVE a win tonight. But didn't Tampa Bay just humiliate the then 4-0 Packers? On any Sunday, perhaps...
The point is that even with a woefully undertalented roster Flores proved that if you find the right coach you can compete and win games against good teams - which has so far carried over this year as well, albeit with an upgraded roster.
Needs to be signed long term ASAP.
