Simms made it clear that the Broncos were taking Jones. IMO he heard it directly from Elway.

Well, that's exactly what Gettleman did. Alas, way too many people on this site fell for it. And they still cling to it because they want to think Jones is indisputably the guy.

So no one should think for a second that GMs wouldn't lie to the media. Its the professional lying business.

a GM for having the fortitude/conviction for taking a qb high, what is concerning is the scouting that leads to that conviction, when it seems like a lot of the rest of the football world questioned whether that qb was even a first round pick.

Jones is way better than Darnold or Haskins. Time will tell if we made a mistake (which I don’t feel we did). But they made worse mistakes.

Or anyone for that matter. The best you can say so far is he seems like a hard worker and a nice guy. But he’s been almost completely ineffective this season and he’s 4-14 as a starter.

Way better than Darnold? Don't see that at all.

Keep in mind that after he recovered from mono last year, the Jets went 7-6 under Darnold despite a shaky OL and uninspiring playmakers.

I think he has real issues, too.

Saw Denver trade down as soon as Jones got off the board. I don't know if Miami or Cincinnati were involved but let's say this: they ALL passed on Haskins and only the Giants got criticized for it.

passed on Haskins. In terms of players people knew about, I thought Hopkins was resoundingly the most overrated player in the 2019 draft.

If the WFT is in the hunt for a top three pick in 2021, I would not be surprised if they cut bait on Haskins and look for another QB solution.

The media has always been much tougher on the Giants than any other NFL team. Probably more than any other team in sports history actually.

they backed out when Jones was selected. It was on the Bills twitter account the day after the draft.

continues to be Gettleman's, lack of feel for the draft.

This team should be in a much better spot based on the draft capital, they had.

Who knows what is true, but it is still annoying to hear this stuff.

My suspicion is Gettlemen's "know for a fact" was that Jones's agent fed Gettleman a line that Denver wanted Jones.

Josh Allen and Dexter Lawrence. ELi was already paid for by draft time in 2019.

Re: King...exactly. I'm not sure Elway would have pulled the trigger on Murray if Denver has the first pick, but Lock was their target. King even predicted he was on Denver's radar in his final mock draft.

My guess is Gettleman panicked with rumors on Jones and just couldn't wait until the 17th pick.

Who cares at this point. If Jones doesn't improve quickly he won't be long for here anyways...

We may never know for sure.

Lock was Denver's target, then why did they take Fant at #20? How could they be certain that Lock would last until #41? What's even more interesting is that they also had pick #42, and yet took Risner with #41. That's hardly a ringing endorsement of Lock.

The Broncos also immediately traded out as soon as we took Jones. Maybe that was just coincidental, but it still is evidence that they were interested in Jones.

But even if they and the WFT were not interested, it's very likely someone would have taken Jones before #17. Somebody said that the Bengals had a deal to move up with Buffalo, but backed out as soon as Jones was taken.

puts a first round grade on them, nor moves them up their board because they're desperate. Conversely, some GMs get caught up in a "run on the bank" scenario when rumors start flying.

Reports were Denver had 2nd round grades on both Jones and Lock and were confident one or both would make it to the second round if they still wanted to go QB.

Also both them and Pittsburgh signaled to press interest to move back/up respectively in rd 1 prior to draft.

Believe what you want.

No one is going to admit the truth even afterward b/c of what insight it can giveaway into a team's thought processes.

This isn't a controversial opinion. It's a really weak attempt to stir a pot if so.

so a Broncos insider it isn't so and its confirmed? Same goes with washington too. Just because these "insiders" say anything doesn't make it so.

Lombardo and ranaan say a lot of utter BS and leading up to the obj trade, no one knew it. Hell, Kim Jones was on the air at the time he was traded saying that he wasn't getting traded.
