Some Random thoughts on last night

section125 : 10/23/2020 7:28 am
1.) Ryan Lewis has now given up two huge pass plays that cost the Giants wins against Dallas And Philly (on top of the very weak illegal contact call).

2.) Patrick Graham's initial defensive series are horrible. However he quickly sees what the opponent is doing and changes up. But he gets the opponent in 2nd or 3rd and long and does not blitz....

3.) Every time you think the oline is getting it, they fall apart.

4.) Daniel Jones is a complete enigma. Looks brilliant at times and then fails to feel pressure. Last fumble he could easily have stepped away and he also kept the ball at his hip. Somebody is not getting through to him

5.) WTF is Harper on the field at the end of the game? Who got hurt?

6.) Engram - another "almost" player. He almost looks like a keeper. If some team wants him for a 5th, send him.

7.) Zeitler - got steam rolled several times last night. We talked about Pulley and Richburg being shoved into the QBs face, but wow.

8.) Andrew Thomas - ??? is he hurt? Is he confused? One step forward, two steps back. Think he will make SY's dud list again.

9.) Jabrill Peppers - another almost player. He played really well last night until the end of the game.
Thomas has been a major

Disappointment.
Wayne Gallman played a terrific game last night.
Rick in Dallas : 10/23/2020 7:32 am : link
He ran the ball tough and caught the ball well. I have always thought the ball security deal with Gallman was overblown.
Engram has to go. That drop cost them the game and the INT
Victor in CT : 10/23/2020 7:37 am : link
was on him too. I doubt they can trade him, too much film of this shit. Last of the Reese/Ross "great athlete" picks will be cut at some point I think. Who needs Ramczyk when you can have the JPP of Tweeners?

Agree time to sit Zeitler, get Lemieux in there. And get Peart in there full time too. Nothing against Fleming, I like him and he'll be great as the swing man. But at 1-6, the season is over, so let the kids get the experience they need. I'm not overly worried about Thomas. I think he'll get it, just taking a longer longer than we expected.

Yes he did. He may have been the offensive star of the game with Shepard.
Early returns on Thomas are not good.
The_Boss : 10/23/2020 7:44 am : link
That’s a bad look on Dave. He continues to get physically beaten and/or mentally missing assignments and Penei Sewell has to be a consideration if they’re not drafting a QB. And honestly, given Dave’s run here, would anyone really be shocked if he indeed selected the worst OT in the bunch?
Throw Ballantine into the mix too ...
Spider56 : 10/23/2020 7:48 am : link
Missed opportunity for that fake punt in the 1H ... he was clueless, then this big personal foul on the Jackson hit at the end. These were 2 big plays.
Agree with everything but this

He had to have a chunk play there or the game is over. He is waiting for a receiver to come open. He was trying to make a play.

Yup. No court awareness.
If there

is a front office out there stupid enough to part with a 5th for Engram. You make thay deal.

Remember the scrimmage when Carter beat Thomas 4 or 5 times
Rick in Dallas : 10/23/2020 7:52 am : link
it was a preview of what was to come when the games started for real.
I kept hoping last night when the second half started that Thomas would be benched and Peart would be at LT.
Who makes that call? Judge or Columbo?

Disagree - that is not on Ballentine. Judge did not call for that to be the play. Dixon just happened to see it - if you look at the sideline McGaughey and Judge do not even acknowledge Dixon or shout out to Ballentine who is 20 feet away. There is no way that either Judge or McGaughey do not see Dixon pointing at Ballentine.
Thomas
Dragon : 10/23/2020 7:52 am : link
He needs a few games on the sidelines and film room to see someone else playing LT, if we don’t make a major change he could just totally loose any kind of confidence in his ability. We’ve had some bad LT’s but right now he’s got to be the worst of all time.

That was my initial thought. He seems to be lost in a downward spiral at the moment. They may need to start Peart there just to let him clear his mind.

+1
Jones needs more talent around him before
MarvelousMike : 10/23/2020 8:01 am : link
a proper judgement can be passed. Thomas was a train wreck for most of the game. He needs a true #1 WR, TE, etc.

I see the rest of the season to be evaluation of the team and who will be part of the 2021 edition. Before the season started, I said it would be the 6 games after the bye to be a fair judge of this team.

It will be two more off seasons before we can predict at least 8-8 record or better.

No, I disagree. I think they can be 8-8 next year.

I agree 100% the Jones ripping is comical. If he ran and used up the clock he would get ripped. He expected his oline to block a very light rush to give him a chance for a 30-40 yd play...

My point was he stood in the pocket with a huge hole to his left. All he had to do is move about 5 yards to his left...and once again he had the ball at his hip instead of up and ready to throw...

Jim in Forest Hills : 10/23/2020 8:42 am : link
with Holmes out you want to see Yiadom or Ballentine out there? Thats what I thought. Play Harper, lets see what he's got when he's not committing penalties.
I'm still digusted with Engram
mittenedman : 10/23/2020 8:43 am : link
he doesn't deserve to be on this team anymore. I would trade him this week for anything I could before his value declines any further. What a gutless coward of a player. He is 100% the poster boy for this era of New York Giants football.

Speaking of questionable 1st round picks - anyone else getting a little frustrated with Dexter Lawrence? He's a big body inside but I'm not seeing anything special about his play - he looked better last year IMO. I saw him pop up on the injury report (knee) - right now Austin Johnson is the better player. I like having Dexter on the team, but there is no reason to select a run plugger in the 1st round. Just like there's no reason to select an H-back or a RB. The Giants have to start making good decisions in the 1st round again.

There are guys that are "gamers" on the football field
LBH15 : 10/23/2020 8:46 am : link
and then there's Evan Engram.

Delusional Fans
Jeffrey : 10/23/2020 8:46 am : link
All the anger directed at one play that should have been made is missing the reality of just how bad this Giants team is again. This team was not one play away from some defining victory. This team imploded again on offense and defense for the 3rd time this year against a team playing half its JV. Put in the Eagles 1st team and there is no talk of an "almost" win.

Engram's miss was horrible, but no worse than Thomas play all night, the play of Ryan Lewis in the 4th quarter or Logan Ryan and Bradberry's penalties or Jones throwing a bullet pass at Engram from 5 feet away, Jones' fumble, Zeitler again acting like he should have retired already, Peppers play on a 3rd and 18 to lose the game, Dion Lewis fumbling and on and on. This team is terrible and replacing one player is not going to change that. It's going to take a new GM, several drafts and some decent free agents.
Jabril Peppers
SirLoinOfBeef : 10/23/2020 8:55 am : link
plays well in the box. Period.

Hopefully McKinney comes back healthy and can actually cover a RB or TE.

Good point. This team has been totally directionless for nearly a decade, no plan poor FO and management. The GM has to go today, Gettleman has been brutal. Is this team better since he took over, nope, not in the slightest. Goodbye. Need to be smarter with our selections and quit wasting valuable draft capital. Still going to be another 2-3 years of building a roster it feels, still will be the worst team in the NFL over the past 4 years and going. Just getting tired of caring at all about this team.
a small but consistent issue
dlauster : 10/23/2020 9:31 am : link
was another early timeout in the second half that left us with only two at the end of the game. Another 35 seconds on the clock in the last drive changes the strategy.

and for the life of me
dlauster : 10/23/2020 9:34 am : link
I will never understand how our secondary refuses to turn around to locate the ball when locked in man coverage.

That last Wentz touchdown is an easy interception if you are faced the right way.
