Giants have resisted trade offers for Evan Engram

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/23/2020 10:37 am
Not clear if Dunleavy is talking only about prior years, but this is ANOTHER report saying there were offers.

Quote:
The Giants have resisted trade offers in the past on their 2017 first-round draft pick — this year’s trade deadline is Nov. 3 — waiting for the breakthrough believed to be on the cusp if he could avoid the rash of injuries that cut short his last two seasons. Well, he’s healthy now.

he plays the worse the trade offer will be.

Run another reverse to Engram, and no one will trade even a coveted late round pick for him.
Give me a conditional

7th.

Cut your losses considering he's a much higher risk of getting hurt and getting that option than being worth a shit. He's not a player you can win with.
We are beyond the point of being picky on a return

for this guy.

We have to make him available and take what we can get.

I don't see how you can get better than a 5th, maybe a 4th in a real longshot.
Just take his salary
M.S. : 10/23/2020 10:43 am : link

And no need to give us any picks whatsoever.

Getting rid of Evan Engram is a huge addition by subtraction.
I need beer for the weekend.

I'll trade him for a 12 pack of Sweetwater IPA.
I'd be surprised if he could get more than a 5th.
mittenedman : 10/23/2020 10:45 am : link
All his flaws are on full display over a large sample size now.

You can't even use this guy in preseason because he's so fragile. It's ridiculous. People wonder why he isn't playing WR or is never split out wide? His route running is atrocious. Any S or CB would eat him alive in coverage, as most Linebackers do. Fade to the end zone? Nope - hands and coordination aren't there. Terrible on a 50/50 ball.

Let someone else try to work him into their O.

I would be totally fine with the Giants trading Engram, I don't see the rush to do so.

The Giants aren't going to get a premium pick for him. So would you rather have a 6th round pick next year or would you like to continue to gamble that someone finds a way to use Engram's all-world athletic abilities to turn him into a productive football player?

Given that the Giants are not going anywhere this year, I'd be just as happy keeping the high-upside proposition than dumping him for effectively nothing.
Get on it - take whatever you can get

It's
AcidTest : 10/23/2020 10:47 am : link
not going to happen here in all likelihood. This is a classic situation where it's in the best interest of both parties to part ways. I hope the Giants aren't holding on to him because Jones has so few targets. Engram already drops too many passes. I'm not saying we should trade him for next to nothing, but a mid to high third would be enough. He needs a fresh start, and it's unlikely we will resign him when he becomes a FA in 2022.

It’s been 4 years, there is no upside. He’s trash and needs to go

I no longer believe he has high upside. I now believe he is just fast, probably very athletic, but not a football player. He should try out for track next season.

And paying him, what, $6m next year? Fuck that.
It depends on what the offer is
UberAlias : 10/23/2020 10:51 am : link
If it's a 4th, I'm jumping all over it. A 6th? I'd pass. As frustrating as EE is, this is a team that is severely lacking in talent for our young QB to throw to. EE is still better than many of the alternatives.
I would do it for a 5th also
UberAlias : 10/23/2020 10:53 am : link
But I think folks are under estimating our options.
Trading him makes all the sense in the world
GFiLA : 10/23/2020 10:55 am : link
For the people that think that we would be better off keeping him I have a question if he is not in our plans why wouldn’t you play the other TEs to see if they are? He is a tease and a coach killer taking up snaps from others that should be getting them.

He is fast but can’t block, run crisp routes and can’t catch. With those skills it wouldn’t even make sense to move him to WR.
It's knowing that he was a 1st rd pick
ATL_Giants : 10/23/2020 10:57 am : link
that makes it so painful. Keep him around? I guess, but not at anything that resembles an expensive contract.
No reason to think the other TEs are any better.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/23/2020 10:58 am : link
Kaden Smith has a fan club because he's not Engram, but he's allegedly a blocking TE and I see him blow assignments left and right. Toiolo is a blocker they don't even try to work into the offense.
As Others Have Said
Trainmaster : 10/23/2020 10:58 am : link
Likely not getting an offer for a better than a 5th round pick.

With any pipe dreams of winning the division very likely gone, it's time to 100% focus on 2021 and beyond. Engram shouldn't be part of those plans.

Dump Engram and Zeitler, get two picks to bring us back up to 7 and call it a day.

It's gotta be when his trade value is at its absolute lowest right? I'm not even talking about his huge drop, the guy's catch % is not good.

Everyone Relax : 10/23/2020 11:08 am : link
you never know what kind of due diligence other teams do. They might be reading this board trying to get as much information on Engram as possible.
That being said, I think he's a potential stud! Give him the right coaching and offense and I see an offensive MVP in his future. I would maybe consider trading him for 2nd ;)
Trade? I'd be fine with cutting him
islander1 : 10/23/2020 11:11 am : link
he's useless.

Marty in Albany : 10/23/2020 11:12 am : link
to replace him. There is no shame in keeping Engram. The shame is that he is the best TE we have had for the last few years.

Get rid of whatever process is responsible for getting Engram.

If there is any upside to Engram it isn't happening here. Maybe we get a player with that 6th round pick.

AcidTest : 10/23/2020 11:38 am : link
I and others have said, it depends what you can get for him. But we should at least investigate trading him. We only five picks next year, the team needs to be rebuilt yet again, his hands are at best inconsistent, and he can't block. But his speed might be attractive to some teams.

We should also investigate trading Tate, Zeitler, Peppers, and pretty much anyone else. Give the new GM as many draft assets as possible.

Your argument looses water when you look at his body of work. He hasn't even been good at his position, let alone great and he is imjured aclot.. Cut bait!
I thought they should have
Carson53 : 10/23/2020 12:14 pm : link
moved him last trading deadline, if they can get at least
a 5th Rd. pick for him, I would do it this year.
What a disappointment he has been!
They signed a big tight end to a two year deal,
in the 'offseason', and he hardly plays.
He is more of a blocker, and I looked at his contract,
all his guaranteed money seems to be this year.

Teams have plenty of tape on him.........they know what they'd be getting. Sans dropped past last night, or reverse runs from this season.

Teams always think they can change a guy. And sometimes it does work.........I'd trade him for a pick simply because it's not worth having him on the roster next year at that price.

He's bringing zero to the table except potential......and now he's literally losing games for you.

Although could see him so well for other teams, Pittsburgh, Seattle, etc.

No NFL guy is looking at EE and thinking he needs a change of scenery to be Claypool. Claypool is like the antithesis of EE if anything. Claypool is physical, high pionts the ball well, makes contested catches, and doesn't suffer from concentration drops. The only thing that they are both similar is aren't very good route runners. Difference is Claypool actually uses his frame and can box guys out and make contested catches.
Lol oh yeah
NoGainDayne : 10/23/2020 6:49 pm : link
that's all Evan Engram needs to do to be Chase Claypool, different play calls.

There's nothing to show he's better than the alternatives at this point beyond his combine test results.

Joe Judge said himself that getting Engram involved more has been a priority but the opponents are focusing their defenses on stopping him. So apparently those “combine results” are having an affect on defensive gameplanning? Are they gameplanning for Kaden Smith? I’m guessing no....

100% wrong here. He is not a talent. Other than running fast for a tight end, please tell me what talent he has? He cannot catch, he cannot run routes, and he cannot block. So.. he is not a tight end. He does not have the hands or the speed to be a WR either.

Smith is a better tight end than Engram. The guy is not as fast but he can catch and block.

8 games and then what?

The right to pay him 6M for his 5th year option?
Would anybody pay him 6M per at this point?

If you don't pick up the option he is a UFA. I don't see there being any market at all for him.

frustrating as he is I don't see a trade

At least he's a threat. You take him away - without a dependable running game, you're taking one of the few credible threats Jones has. I don't see them doing that to him (Jones) - especially for a later round pick.

Use him this and next year and what happens...happens
