Media hate for Daniel Jones

nicks14 : 10/23/2020 12:05 pm
I'm not trying to say Daniel Jones is playing great but he's been ok and whatever he's been he's been better than Dwayne Haskins. I shouldn't have to qualify this but this is no way a race discussion but race is a part of the picture. Some People in the Media will rip Jones no matter what he does because they can't admit that whatever he is he's better than Haskins. People went to extremes to trash DJ for being picked over Haskins and I don't think he's ever going to get a fair shot with some people because they're raw about him looking like a decent starter right now and Haskins looking like he should be out of the league. I'm black and I can say it still rubs me raw that the implication that Jones being white was the reason he was picked over Haskins was actually a take. Like I said this is not a racial or political post but that was one of the asinine things I remember from the Jones V.S Haskins debate that was egregious.
Who cares?

when it comes to Darnold, Wentz, and even Watson their poor performances are due to bad coaching/offensive line/supporting cast.
It seems..

to me that Jones gets evaluated pretty fairly in the Media. A lot of analysts talk about him having the tools and the ability and that he's been under duress and that's impacted a lot of things.

They also say the turnovers are a problem, which they are.
I honestly don't give a shit about Haskins

Jones is the one on this team. He is the one we may need to decide on in the off season, depending on our draft position.

It would be one thing if Haskins was lighting it up and there was some room to look back and say we made the wrong choice. But, is there supposed to be some solace in Jones not sucking as much as Haskins? Not for me.

Exactly with DJ there is an extra layer of hate and it stems from people being mad that for as bad as they think he is he's better than their Golden Boy Haskins.

Are you a media member? I clearly said media members not Giants fans. We can look at Jones through the lens of being Giants fans that want the team to get better. I was just pointing out the extra emphasis on how bad Jones is has another layer behind it.
Wentz
Spider43 : 10/23/2020 12:19 pm : link
Is a stupid QB, AFAIC. It's year 5 and he's still making stupid, dumb mistakes. Great arm, talent, and athleticism, but you can't keep making those stupid mistakes regularly in year 5. He's too 'competitive' for his own good, though I imagine it flies over well in Philly (I'm sure it's wearing thin already though).
I dont think Jones gets an unfair shake.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/23/2020 12:21 pm : link
To be honest, he could be criticized more for the turnover issue and he has not been. It shows that they under stand he's playing on a bad team.

The good and the bad with Wentz was on display last night. He’s got a laser for an arm, and zinged some throws into tight spots before our defenders had a chance to react. And credit where due, his game winner to Scott was a perfect throw.

But he also makes several dumb throws, and he’s never going to last exposing himself to hits the way he does
As for Jones, there’s good and bad too. He’ll never be a consistent
mfsd : 10/23/2020 12:25 pm : link
winner if he can’t eliminate mistakes.

But if Engram catches one ball Jones dropped right in his hands, the story today is all about how Jones led a second half charge to beat the Eagles in Philly
I don't think Jones gets unfair criticism at all
Mike from Ohio : 10/23/2020 12:43 pm : link
The broadcast last night was an example. They mostly said he has talent but has almost nothing around him. The turnovers and rush awareness are legit criticisms of him at this stage in his career.

He is taking some ribbing for the run last night. That is separate from "he's a shitty QB."
Crappy
Simms : 10/23/2020 1:03 pm : link
I would not say Jones is crappy...

Name several QB's in the NFL that could well with the offensive talent we have right now.
not the entire media
markky : 10/23/2020 1:05 pm : link
Terry Bradshaw said in the last two telecasts I've seen him on (Sunday and last night) that he likes Jones and likes his accuracy. He said to be a QB you absolutely need to be accurate. He also went on to say that Josh Allen is not accurate and because of that will never be a franchise quarterback.

This.

I have heard many be very complimentary of Jones, including Terry Bradshaw last night, pre-game, who called him "the real deal."

There are a lot of positives and I read/see him get some credit for those things. Also, the ball security criticisms and, maybe a notch less down the alert scale, the bad decisions passing the football, are justified.
Also, it's been a while
Beezer : 10/23/2020 1:22 pm : link
since I've read/seen any kind of serious Jones/Haskins comparison.
Never forget
BlackLight : 10/23/2020 1:52 pm : link
that a whole lotta people have a vested interested in seeing Jones flame out of the NFL, after all the oxygen they used up in criticizing the Giants' decision to draft him at #6 overall.

People have long memories, and these nitwits know that if the Giants ever right the ship with Jones under center, those quotes are going to follow them around for a long time.
FWIW, most of the analysis seem to love DJ
Tony in Tampa : 10/23/2020 3:24 pm : link
Aikman, Romo, Bradshaw, even Boomer all say they see something in him and that it will get better.
I should rephrase this
nicks14 : 10/23/2020 3:33 pm : link
Most of you right the analyst in the media do give Jones his respect. It's the clowns like Nick Wright and Stephen A Smith that I'm talking about.

I agree with all of that.
Not sure what media you tend to watch...
bw in dc : 10/23/2020 3:57 pm : link
but from what I watch Haskins is much more criticized than Jones. And rightfully so. Guy is morphing into JaMarcus Russell, V2.

Pretty much nailed it +1
