Terrible second round draft picks too.

Ivan15 : 10/23/2020 2:08 pm
As best as I can tell, other than Shepard, the Giants have not retained a 2nd round pick for a second contract since Beatty. The may have made an offer to some (Joseph, Collins) but the other picks have been mediocre at best and received a token offer or were not pursued.

They may yet re-sign Tomlinson (OK) and/or Hernandez (blah) but they really don’t have much to show as 1st or 2nd rounders. Most of us are aware of their 3rd round failures too.
Gettleman has to go.

Does anyone trust him to do well with whatever high draft picks the NYG end up with in 2021?

He did OK with FA signings this year, but keep in mind he's got a long list of FA "misses" to go with this year's FA "hits".
What?

Sterling Shepard was a 2nd round pick that was re-signed to a second contract.

yea I do,

Barkley/Hernandez - Not his fault Barkley has been hurt, Hernandez will look better as the line comes to form, takes time for lineman, look no further then Eric Flowers

Jones/Lawrence/Bakers - Jones is a solid young qb in 2nd year with no true #1 wr / Lawrence is solid / Baker not his fault he did something stupid

Thomas/Mckinney - Thomas is 1st year rookie / Not his fault Mckinney got hurt.

Evan Engram killed us last night, not his pick

Not to mention he did a great job getting the Giants out of cap hell.

DG has done well with Draft pick imo....

We can debate whether a RB makes sense....but no denying he is special.

Hernandez has started every game.since being drafted.

Carter and Hill are decent.

Daniel Jones, Dexter Lawrence are good picks....Love, Xmem, Slayton

Thomas, Peart and Holmes...with McKinney and those LBers is a good haul.

I have no major complaints with DG drafts
This was an observation from the Evan on the fan but was pretty

astute. There's been ups and downs and he walked into a tough situation, but the one defining thing you can point to is he didn't fix the oline. That could change by year end IF Gates becomes decent and IF Hernandez molds into something good and IF the rookie tackles BOTH give you something. RG still needs to be replaced. Hernandez is what he is, he does'nt have the lateral ability to be a good guard in this league. He's competent, thats about it. I actually have more faith in Gates to becoming a good center and I think we look back that this was a shrewd maneuver signing him to 2 years.

At the end of the year and you can still say the line isn't fixed he needs to pack his bags. He should pack his bags anyway because this team is maxing out at 5 wins in 3 years.
i don't see how anyone can be happy with DG's team building

the talent is worse than when he took over and he didn't add what he said: rush the passer, control the LOS.

I think there's a bias to like what we have, but DG had 5 first round draft picks. He could have done better.

The plan couldn't possibly be to bottom out 3 years after he took over.
DG and perhaps the whole FO needs to go

A new GM, perhaps even an outsider at this point who agrees to keep Judge and staff, needs to be brought in and a new culture developed. Rehashing, Rehashing, Rehashing the OLD gets OLD and clearly doesn't WORK.

Giants need to purge every high contract they can; have a good draft; and sign more guys like Bradberry and Martinez (good contracts) without signing a guy like Dupree whom you'd need to break the bank for and so forth.

Bye Solder, Tate, Zeitler for sure and many won't be signed to another deal, especially Golden.

A shame Barkley got hurt and Baker got arrested cause those two first round picks would have helped.

You are giving an excuse for Barkley because YOU liked the pick and you're dug in to defend it.

Here's a news flash-- RB's are high risk to get hurt early. It's why you don't take him. The very fact you don't take them number is the very fact that they are more apt to get hurt early.

A player that is hurt during 1.5 of his 1st 3 years as a number 2 pick is NOT special or "worth the pick."
SO far for a number 2 - in a position in which it's tough to last - he's be an awful pick. If he can't play how is it that he is special or worth the pick?
Linval Joseph and Landon Collins

are good examples of why second contracts are a flawed metric for success.

Pretty sure they fired the scout that recommended DeAndre Baker. Terrible job on that one.
