Gallman

should be the starting RB. The kid runs hard and doesn't get enough credit.
He's had a limited
Br00klyn : 10/23/2020 2:47 pm : link
amount of carries in his young career but I never saw him run the ball the way he did last night with that much explosion and determination. If he can do that every week then yes he deserves to be the starter and get 20+ touches

+1
He played well last night
JonC : 10/23/2020 2:55 pm : link
but hasn't seen the field because he's not done enough of it before. Football is a meritocracy, it's on him to get on the field.
Well in his rookie year
mdthedream : 10/23/2020 3:10 pm : link
he ran for 500yds and 200 rec yards avg 4.3 per carry. So he had a good rookie season than Barkley came along so he was pushed aside.
He looked really good last night
Simms11 : 10/23/2020 3:10 pm : link
and ran hard. His biggest problem in his young career has been holding onto the ball. He was always a jack of all trades and master of none type. Very Workman-like and that’s what we need right now. Saying that, however, it was nice to see the change of pace back like Freeman or Lewis come in with a little bit different style. Also it looks like the running game is starting to come along as run blocking has gotten substantially better. Pass pro is still an adventure however.
He was a beast on that drive that should have sealed the win

The stats don't bear out that he has a fumbling problem.
We remember his two drops in two games because they were close together. It's like the fallacy of "things happening in threes". The occurrences are random but we remember those in a culster.
Runs hard

and gets 3.4 per carry. Not good
Maybe he has seen the light
JohnB : 10/23/2020 3:25 pm : link
Maybe he now understands that each carry should be played to the hilt because tomorrow isn't promised in the NFL. If he plays like he did yesterday, we'll see a lot more of him.

Gallman's averaging 4.4 YPC this year and 4.0 for his career, so....

My father said he was injured towards the end of the game
Dinger : 10/23/2020 3:31 pm : link
I didn't see him in the last drive but thought it was just because They wanted Lewis as a better receiver.
Gallman.....
BillKo : 10/23/2020 3:49 pm : link
..did run exceptionally hard last night on that last drive...shame it didn't result in a W.

I have been critical of him...runs too upright, ball security....

Issue with Gallman, like others on this roster, is they are free agents next year.

Can we really see the Giants resiging him?
well
mdthedream : 10/23/2020 4:10 pm : link
he is not going to get a lot so yes league min should do it. No reason to spend big money on a backup.
What he showed last night
JonC : 10/23/2020 4:13 pm : link
is an anomaly until he does it again, and again. It's promising, but need to see more of it. With SB out, he SHOULD be chomping at the bit to get out there and perform well.

This is a great point. But, will he be given the chance once Freeman is healthy?

I'd tend to run both guys equally, although in my heart Freeman is the guy that can give you more towards winning (based on track record).

So what does Judge do?
If he's practicing well, and showing the fire, the right attitude
JonC : 10/23/2020 4:17 pm : link
and gets on the field for game snaps, he has to continue to make them count. That's how he gets more snaps, do more of what he did last night, he has to take them from Freeman.
Gallman did well. Has never seemed to gain the trust
LBH15 : 10/23/2020 4:19 pm : link
of any of the Giant coaches, past or present.

But with that said, not sure we should be trusting any of the Giant coaches either. Running backs have not developed particularly well here, including even some regression from Barkley.

I for one would like to see more of Gallman. We may need him next year and he has a lot of treads still on his tires.
I don't know what his problem is.
TC : 10/23/2020 5:36 pm : link
When I first saw this kid play as a rookie, I was pleasantly surprised that despite his slender build he was unexpectedly strong with some power, and had a nice bag of skills. He looked like he could be a NFL starter quality RB. Ever since then he's been in the doghouse to one degree or another, for what, I'm not really sure.

After last night, he looks like that with more game touches he'll go one of two ways; he'll either start to look like an NFL RB (His confidence must be crap after the last couple years.) or he'll implode. Considering the state of things, I see little downside in giving him those touches and seeing what happens.

Barkley hasn't regressed, he's been injured. Looked good in week 2 before being hurt. Week 1 the Steelers overcommitted to stopping him, and DJ didn't make them pay.

To be fair Jon, I have to echo what others have said: he seemed to be on track for doing it over and over, then came Barkley who got the lion's share of the carries, then the line really got bad, he fumbled a couple of times and was rarely used to tote it on a full load.

He and Freeman should be the rotation this year. Lewis looks cooked....slow and cooked.

Pretty sure coming out of college the book on him was he needs carries to get in the flow of a game like a real bell cow running back.

I would like to see him given the chance to carry the ball 15-20 times and see what happens. Its obvious he isn't very good as a change of pace guy.

it tends to be what have you done for me lately, and the player has to figure it out.

I agree. I'd rather have Gallman than Lewis.

As a side note to Gallman's inspired running last night,
BlueLou'sBack : 10/24/2020 1:46 am : link
if the fire in Gallman has been lit by coach Judge or coach Burton Burns, whose résume is as thick and loaded as an unabridged dictionary, that's a fine job of coaching.

I didn't think Gallman had it in him, and was very pleasantly surprised.

He earned himself a bigger slice of the RB rotation I would hope.
