Rebuilds in the NFL are supposed to take 5 years, not 2.
7 years is ideal.
If you expect we’re just going to be able to turn things around with 7 offseasons of drafts and FA and a snap of the fingers, you’ve got another thing coming. Rebuilds take at least 16 years. It’s important to be the worst team in the NFL for at least a decade, or at least until our joint owners are at each other’s throats and the commissioner is forced to pick a GM for us. THEN the real rebuild can begin and we can possibly be competitive several years after that.
is knocking off the best team in the NFC tonight... think Daniel Jones can do that?
Wake me when Daniel Jones has a number 1 WR like Hopkins, a number 2 like Fitzgerald, a number 3 like Kirk, and an actual TE.
So Jones would be as effective as Murray if he played with the Cards?
that's the clear implication of the statement. Talent doesn't matter for a QB, it's all about the supporting cast.
Football isn’t as clear cut as “Quarterback not throw touchdown, Quarterback bad. Team not win. Must draft another one”
In today's NFL, if you want to be a perennial playoff team, 10 out of 12 years. And a shot at multiple SBs, get a top-8 QB. You're not doing that with a bottom half QB, which is what we got.
I wonder what you would have called Eli Manning after that game vs. Minnesota in 2007. And no I’m not saying Jones will be Eli. I’m saying none of what you just said has been proven one way or the other.
All that has been proven is that the Giants are not a good football
team and have not been for a very long time.

That was very funny...
Cards were not in worse shape than the Giants guys
I have this straight because it was suggested above...
If Daniel Jones was the Cardinals QB tonight he'd be as great as Kyler Murray was?
You really do build great straw men arguments. I’m saying he’d have a lot better chance at being successful surrounded by the Cardinals offensive cast than he does with the Giants.

Exactly, not sure why this is lost on a decent portion of BBI. You cannot have a middling qb and expect to compete on a yearly basis. It’s like some still think a team is built for 1985, run the ball, stop the run, and have a game manager under center who doesn’t make mistakes. The formula now is throw the ball, and rush the passer. Giants literally won with this in 2011.
I’m not sure if Jones is or isn’t a top 10 qb yet. But if he isn’t, you gotta cut bait before a second contract.
Also, impressive how the cardinals were able to rebuild and it not take years to do so. I lost count of what year this giants rebuild is on.
RE: Every argument supporting Giants players is based in excuses
Not really. The Giants suck. They have sucked for a long time. But, you can’t cut 50 guys every year. So you have to separate the wheat from the chaff.
RE: Every argument supporting Giants players is based in excuses
But the Giants just aren’t playing the same game as what we all just watched. The difference in talent in all three phases of the game and I think also in coaching is so vast. Does anyone see the Giants beating one of these teams in the NFCC game over the next few years? We’re just so far away.

Defense and running the ball still wins in the playoffs, their offenses are exciting and Wilson and Murray are very good but both teams play horrible defense..
Playing no defense will not win these teama anything
That elite franchise QBs elevate teams. Kyler Murray is quickly becoming that and the Cardinals are winning. Jones while being a nice player, isn’t a franchise changing QB.

Both teams made crucial turnovers in spots. They are beatable. It’s the talent gap in QB that separates those teams and ours.

Murray is a total freak. He's got force multiplier written all over him.
And I don't care what they said he measured at the Combine, he's barely 5'8'. He and Wilson shook hands after the game and it looked like Wilson was greeting a jockey after the Kentucky Derby.

Wait wait wait. It seems awfully convenient that Kyler Murray has taken this huge step forward when given a number 1 WR at his disposal in DeAndre Hopkins. It’s almost like career trajectories are improved when you put talent around young quarterbacks.

You think Murray is elevating that team without them adding Deandre Hopkins? he also has Fitz, Kirk is a good deep guy, they habe a dynamic running game...The offense fits Murray to a tee..
If Jones was the QB instead would they be as dynamic? probably not because Murray with his quick twitch runnign makes that offense go..
No QB is a suoerstar without a true nunber 1 receiver and good talent around them..none

Darius Slayton, that’s it. I like Slayton. I think he can be a starter in this league but with that said, he doesn’t start over Hopkins, Lockett, Metcalf, or Fitzgerald in the game tonight.

RE: RE: Cards were not in worse shape than the Giants guys
They've had 23 wins the last four seasons and no playoffs.
We've had 22 wins over the same period and 1 early playoff season. Come on, you know you're cherry-picking the years because if you go back two more seasons we have 12 wins and they have had 24 wins, 2 playoff seasons, one all the way to the NFC championship game so stop with the nonsense
I see repeated often here is to have patience and the Giants need more time. Many have stated Judge and the Giants still need two or three years to become an 8 win squad, or
even a winning team.
This is ridiculous.
If you have the right people and plan in place, you can become competitive and win much faster. No one is even saying a Super Bowl contender, just a competitive football team that can win 8 or more and be in the hunt. Not end every year before Halloween and lose seven of eight to start the season. It should not take more than half a decade to right the ship. Something is deeply wrong with the Giants. There have to be some wins, and soon. Would anyone be surprised if we all sit here next year around week eight and the Giants are 1-7 again, maybe worse? It is quite an accomplishment to be the worst team in in the current NFL.
The Cards imploded and are already rising and exciting. The Giants play the Cards and Seahawks back to back this year, both will likely be blowout losses.
The problem is that until Gettleman goes, there is a good chance whoever is playing QB for the Giants will be playing with a patchwork line and poor skill players.
Most GMs can grab a playmaker with a top pick in the first round. Good GMs find serviceable players in later rounds. After Slayton, what late round player has even shown glimpses of being a starter in this league? What free agent signings have really bolstered a unit while young players develop?
Whether Jones is or could be a legit franchise QB is almost becoming a moot point because he is in an organization that is far removed from a history of being able to acquire and develop talent.
Did I miss something? Did the Giants pass on Murray for Jones? I seem to recall Murray was drafted at #1 overall
If the Giants were picking number 1 in that draft, you think they take Murray? I would bet my house they wouldn't. I doubt he was even on their board.
So you are angry at the Giants now because they didn't draft a player they didn't have an opportunity to draft the #1 overall pick, because you are speculating he wasn't on their board anyway, even though the whole world knows he wouldn't be available when the Giants drafted, as the whole world knew the Cardinals loved him and would draft him #1 overall? That makes sense.
same. DG had 5 first and 2 second round draft picks in the last 3 years. he also traded for LW. that, with the right FA selections, should be enough to build the foundation of a team.

Not to put words into Terps mouth, but I believe he is saying that the Giants are not a forward enough thinking organization to even have picked a player like Murray. Regardless of whether they had the ability to draft him. I tend to agree.

What? A mobile QB? When we just had a QB who had an 80 yard run the other day, running faster than any QB since 2018. I don't tend to agree with that statement.
we ALMOST beat that 1-5-1 team

We've had 22 wins over the same period and 1 early playoff season. Come on, you know you're cherry-picking the years because if you go back two more seasons we have 12 wins and they have had 24 wins, 2 playoff seasons, one all the way to the NFC championship game so stop with the nonsense
At this point, it's safe to say that taking anyone else over Baker would have been wise, let alone Metcalf.
21 catches
145 yards
6.9 yards
0 TDs
He has a huge fork sticking from his back.
Fitz is clearly on the downside of his career but he has a different role now. He’s pretty much the safety outlet WR.
I am beginning to believe you are correct
even a winning team.
If the Giants were picking number 1 in that draft, you think they take Murray? I would bet my house they wouldn't. I doubt he was even on their board.
Quote:
Did I miss something? Did the Giants pass on Murray for Jones? I seem to recall Murray was drafted at #1 overall

Agreed 100%

So you are angry at the Giants now because they didn't draft a player they didn't have an opportunity to draft the #1 overall pick, because you are speculating he wasn't on their board anyway, even though the whole world knows he wouldn't be available when the Giants drafted, as the whole world knew the Cardinals loved him and would draft him #1 overall? That makes sense.

Dave Gettleman is an incompetent failure
I am beginning to believe you are correct

Will say others teams have more life, spark on the field.
Its a good think they did not allow fans this season, stadium crowd would be ugly.
