otherwise, why would someone like Joe Judge think he is a weapon? Me, I would grab a 3rd for him and run.
Now that ball the other night was not as easy a catch as most people make it out to be, and yes he still should have caught it. Watching replays, he was about 3 yards clear, Jones could have been a little more conservative, either shorter or to the inside more instead of straight over the top...
I remember giving up on Corey in his 3rd year. Marion Barber tossed him like a rag doll and I thought this kid is useless. And then Corey became an excellent corner. C'mon Evan, give us a reason to believe!

corey got better when they moved to press man (his strength). engram doesn't have a strength other than riding the exercise bike really well
to actually come to fruition. And if the team really is intent on keeping him, as someone else said, this is why it's taking the Giants almost a full decade now to rebuild. Absolutely pathetic how so far behind and lost this franchise is. They deserve every single loss they've had over the past 8 years and going forward.
struggled because he was asked to play a lot of zone. He was a press man corner and excelled when asked to do so.
Can you imagine how angry BBI will be if we resign Engram? I'd trade him for a high third. His hands are inconsistent, and his blocking has been less than acceptable on many occasions. I think he'd also benefit from a change of scenery and a fresh start with another team.
+1. This is the type of stuff you put out to not upset the locker room/players to distract from what is another lost season, selling what is on paper your QBs top target iOS tough to sell to the team but I think it will be done.
Engram is what he is, he’s a luxury H-back that is a good piece to have for an offense needing a #3/4 option threat. He can’t be leaned on because he is just too unreliable, and not a great football player. He still has talent and can expose deficiencies on defense, he just needs to go somewhere that can more creatively use him. This offense needs more two way TEs, and that he is not.
but anything lower and I would not. I'd be open to a player for player trade too but obviously would have to be a similar aged/talented player who needs a change of scenery.
that as of right now, DG's job is safe. Ownership doesn't seem ready to have a fire sale yet. They are likely hoping that this team is still coming together and if they can cobble together some end of season wins, they'll have enough confidence that this team can contend for the playoffs next year.
a 5th would be fine. They are still in the division hunt as sadly as that is. They aren't going to just give him away but should strike if they can get a 5th.
I would like it for aplayer who can help them now. A WR that needs a new home like John Ross in CIN. Someone who can help the offense under a new set of circumstances.
No accountability whatsoever. Honestly, even if they get something out of skill, his ceiling is not high enough to keep him. A flat out loser.
How do you know what Judge has done? Just how would you hold accountability?
Playing time is a great way to hold someone accountable. Especially when they are having issues like Engram.
I’ll agree with a previous poster, if they could get a 3rd pick they should run with that. I’m not how the comp picks would apply with EE, but a 3rd would be a good get for him at this point.
RE: if they could get a 2nd or 3rd I'd probably do it
but anything lower and I would not. I'd be open to a player for player trade too but obviously would have to be a similar aged/talented player who needs a change of scenery.
Yeah that’s my thinking as well, otherwise you just let him walk at the end of the year, and hope to get a high comp pick I suppose. Player for player would be interesting, not sure what team would do that. Bengals? (They have Boyd and Higgins, not to mention Ross)Green would make sense as he and Engram are both on 1 year deAls. Packers? Don’t see any players but they could use another receiving weapon outside of Adam’s in the worst way. Seattle? They wanted AB, and lost out. Not sure I see many other fits?
From a GM standpoint, they are still in the division
so you can't just fire sale assets. Engram for all his warts does need to be accounted for by the defense. Jones is already short for weapons, really can't take more away unless you are giving him something else.

#1 - that was me that said take a #3 and run
#2 - so who plays? I don't mind Smith, but he is slow as molasses
But you are right, sitting on the bench is about the only thing they could do and it is a double edged sword.
That would encourage any other GM to invest a 6th round draft choice, let alone a 3rd to the Giants? I don't remember any game changing catch or block from this guy.
Yes, he's fast. So what? There are TONS of guys who are fast but can't play in this league.
Engram's unwillingness to block or get better at blocking, stone cold hands, and a tendency to kill drives make him almost impossible to trade. He's another one of those guys Carl Banks called "On Scholarship"...all sorts of potential, looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. We need to move on from these guys, and stop keeping players who can't play just because they were high draft choices.
if they rescind the 5th year option he becomes a Free agent and he's eligible for a comp pick correct? they may not want to trade him for less than what he could possibly net in the free agent market.
keep in mind we're letting one of the DT's go as well.

Still in the division? Sure technically. But this team isn’t winning more than 3 games. You can’t not make moves because you’re “still in it”. Let’s be realistic.
Engram was a POTENTIAL weapon that Reese/Ross drooled over.
After nearly 4 yrs of injuries, drops and missed blocks he has shown himself to be a but a tease. So they aim high and advertise for a 3rd, settle for a 5th, 4th is they get lucky.
As for the "Judge not holding players accountable" crap, does it occur to you guys that they still have to put players on the field? Who else do they have? Smith has been disappointing after flashing a little last year, and Toiololo has been terrible, not even a good blocker.

I am being completely realistic. Don't think like a fan, if you are GM, do you really deal Engram leaving Jones with less targets? When you are 1/1.5 games out? Just doesn't happen.
Engram is a "weapon" yet there's almost no concrete evidence over the past 4 seasons where he has really helped us win games. He's had a good amount of great plays, such as the Tampa game last year, and some games in the past where he'd had 7-8 catches. But he can't block, and it seems that every time we try and rely on him in a big spot, he comes up small, and more often than not this year, when the ball gets thrown in his direction, bad shit tends to happen. Honestly, his best season was his rookie year, he seemed to just be playing free and catching the ball and making things happen. It has gone downhill ever since, that coupled with his injury history, there's no way they should resign this guy and they should get a 5th for him if they can.
Can't catch, cant block, can't break a tackle in the open field.
Rarely shows the breakaway speed we know he has - last year in Tampa comes to mind. His best plays these days come as a ball carrier in the run game. Oh, and he gets banged up a lot.
I remember giving up on Corey in his 3rd year. Marion Barber tossed him like a rag doll and I thought this kid is useless. And then Corey became an excellent corner. C'mon Evan, give us a reason to believe!
Me too. Fans around here talk about trading EE for a mid-to-low round draft choice like that is gold. How many mid to late draft choices in recent years, not named Slayton, have been real productive for the Giants? People get sucked in every year thinking that the draft is a guarantee when with the Giants as we all know it has really been very average at best. Look at the disappointments in addition to EE--Thomas, so far, Hernandez, Ballentine, Webb, Lauletta, McIntosh, C. Slayton, Baker, Beal, Love, and on and on. EE has not justified his draft position or his promise, but he is on a rookie contract and remains one of the few Giants that other teams actually scheme for, along with Slayton, Shepard and maybe Jones as an RB.
His rookie deal is almost up. I hope he has a monster game
Now with the first OC who appears to realize that he is not a traditional TE.
I trust Sy's original scouting report that the hands were not an issue in college. Have to hope that he will regain self-confidence.
It is unfortunate that he is on a team with a terrible pass blocking o-line as his athletic gifts are long speed, not short area quickness. Play design is therefore problematic.
Might have a different opinion if he was keeping someone on the bench who had something to develop. Unless Kaden Smith can hold what pathetic speed he already has while bulking up, we have no TE who belongs on a roster.
only 5 TE's have more catches, he's outside the top 10 in yards by a hair. If he grabs a couple of those shitty drops he's probably top 5 in yards too.
I know we are all jaded by the guy but he's an asset. He'd be really good in other offenses, IMO. I think he'd do well with a change of scenery.
Yes he has his issues but he's one of our few playmakers. He's young too.
So we're going to trade one of our top weapons just so we can grab some linebacker that is going to be great on special teams?
It was a terrible pick but he's an asset.
26 catches, 223 yards and 0 TD catches. Awful blocker. 4th year in league.
Quite the asset.
You want to trade Slayton too?
27 catches, 429 yards?
I guess you'd take a 4th for him?
The offense sucks, Engram isn't great but he's not the problem.
Your point about 4th year in the league is a good one though. I'd try to resign him but if the Giants decide that they don't want to then might as well trade him away. I just think it would be a mistake.
I agree...
But, if this WERE true, would it really surprise you?

It wouldn’t surprise me either way to be honest.

Once that defense starting understanding what Spagnuolo was preaching they really popped.
How do you know what Judge has done? Just how would you hold accountability?

..injury, talent-bust, f'n criminals, it's becoming an urban legend with us.
Fixed it,now it makes sense

This cannot be true. Well, perhaps it is, in which case this organization is more hopeless than I even though.
