with the lack of talent around him, it affects him too. He's pressing and probably struggling with his confidence. When you continue to come up small, it's bound to continue on a losing team.
Off the field, they're faced with a difficult decision regarding his second contract. It's not a big raise for him to join the top 10 TE contracts, but they've got to decide if they can help fix his noggin.
RE: not really as bad as you think compared to the league
only 5 TE's have more catches, he's outside the top 10 in yards by a hair. If he grabs a couple of those shitty drops he's probably top 5 in yards too.
I know we are all jaded by the guy but he's an asset. He'd be really good in other offenses, IMO. I think he'd do well with a change of scenery.
Yes, find a player-for-player trade to max out whatever value you think he has. Suggested it before.
was only responding to your stats and where they are in the league. Not trying to get into a pissing match about "worth". I'm all for trading him for the right deal but i'm not giving him away just to get rid of him because i'm angry, like so many posters are suggesting.
A 6th or 7th is pointless - he has more value here regardless of what the mob thinks. A 5th and i'm listening.

Negative blocker so can only lean on his catch/run potential. If I could get comfortable it would likely be a high 5th rounder I would send him packing.
And for all the posters that will now say a 5th rounder is basically worthless, I disagree. It is worthless in the hands of the NYG the way they have done business. Change that and it's worth something.
he is not nearly good enough as a receiver to warrant being unable to block.
And hes also injury prone.
As Tom used to say, the NFL is about limiting negative plays even moreso than making big plays.
let someone else have to work him into their O without killing the team. He could be decent as a piece in a misdirection offense and still think he carries mid-round value to the right buyer. Thid dhould be the Giants posturing in the media.
If you don’t trade him now, you’re committing to either:
- Paying him 6M next year or
- Releasing him with no possibility of compensation
If there’s a 4th round pick available, I’d take it. That’s the type of ammo you can use to jump from the top of the second into the first and get a get a guy who falls.
is offering a 3rd for Engram but if they are..take it and run. But also not surprised if they pass on it just because the lack of options on offense when Shep can go down at any moment and Slayton is playing through injuries. Don't think he's worth hanging onto this season, but I get it.
People are saying he sucks, can't catch, can't block. Then in the next breath they want a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Who in their right mind would do that.
Pretend you are the fan of another team, and their GM gave up that, while taking on his salary, just for 8 or 9 games for a guy who can't block and can't catch. You would be flipping out calling your GM a freaking moron.
Engram hasn't shown he can block, he hasn't shown he can catch, he is way overpaid for his level of production. He is a pending UFA (with a 5th year option at an even higher salary).
If I were a GM for another team, I wouldn't want to trade for him at all. Not enough value... If I were foolish enough to pull that trigger, I can't see it being for anything for than a conditional 7th and I would ask the Giants to take back half of his remaining salary.
Man you guys way over value the guys who play in blue.
The Giants aren't trading him because nobody wants him for a handful of games at his salary. He has no value. If he had any value, he would have already been traded.

Agree.. he is not worth much in trade value. He does suck. Keep him if he does not cost us much and he can be our backup TE. Otherwise, just trade him for a 6th rounder or something.
The Giants saying they wont trade him is just salesmanship.

Also, the Giants are on the hook for the money no matter what since it's guaranteed. So there isn't even any benefit to releasing him if they were inclined to (which I don;t think they are or should be). So the Giants have little choice but to hold on and hope.

He's fast TE, injured often, shaky hands and can't block.
Why wouldn't you take a 3rd pick for him at this point?
What a great athlete. Hey, we can hope he turns the corner, right? Should be interesting to see what happens with the contract, if he's going nowhere.

As silly as it sounds, Engram still has abilities if he actually uses them properly.
