One would think Bill’s getting a bit frustrated in New England. They get crushed at home, sub-.500 record, no Brady, a disappointing Cam Newton. Maybe he’s ready to leave? Maybe we fire Gettleman after this year and convince Bill to come here as GM and re-unite with Judge? Just wishful thinking on my part?
The only other one close is that if Keith Hamilton hadn't been flagged in Super Bowl XXXV, the Giants might have won the game.
However, he will trade down often and have a ton of late round draft picks so the people clamoring for more picks will love him.

You're right. Belichick the Coach has saved Belichick the GMs ass most of the time.
Anyway, once Pioli said no, the Giants went with Jerry Reese as GM.
So what do I see for the 2021 offseason. I think Gettleman retires (or is pushed out, either way). I think the Giants ask for permission from the Pats to talk to Nick Caserio for the GM spot. Caserio is a young guy who has worked with Judge before from their time at the Pats. If Caserio says no, I think the Giants fall back on Kevin Abrams as GM. Just my gut, no asshat stuff there. We'll see if I'm right.

I agree with your thinking. Caserio signed a new deal earlier in the year, after the Houston situation, it's possible he put in a clause that wouldn't preclude him from leaving for a GM spot.

I think he realizes how much of a crapshoot the draft is and doesn’t fall in love with any given player. Prefers to have multiple rolls
As far as criticism of his GM abilities go, in his 20 year history there, how many times have you thought that the patriots don’t have a talented roster?
People get too hung up on individual transactions and lose the forest for the trees.
Once BB realizes he can't compete with his roster (some of it due to COVID)............
He wants his next Tom Brady for 15 years.
Lawrence refuses to go to the very worst teams, but a team like NE that finishes with 4 wins.....is within striking distance with the proper draft trade assets.

I’ll bet you a million dollars they don’t end up with 4 wins
They still play the jets twice, Miami, Texans. Chargers, an up and down rams team

There is zero chance they end up with 4 wins or Lawrence. You think the Jets are gonna trade with them?! LOL

....what you are seeing in NE could be planned.

Good point about the Jets...but if Lawrence refuses, then what?
My post was truly conspiracy theory, but when it involves BB why not play! :)
LOL

it to you, but Belichick is not the greatest GM. His draft record isn't great, his FA record isn't great, and his trades don't always work out.
However, he will trade down often and have a ton of late round draft picks so the people clamoring for more picks will love him.

absolutely thought their roster paled in comparison with their main rivals of the era. Always had to hear how Peyton was throwing the ball to hall of famers like Faulk, Edge, Harrison, Wayne, etc. and Brady was stuck with Deion Branch and David Patten and David Givens. Same with the Chargers and Rivers, Tomlinson and Gates.
the one year Brady had elite weapons (Moss, Welker, etc.) their offense broke the record as did Brady (since broken again).
I remember a time in 2009 (?) after the Patriots were bounced early in the playoffs to the Ravens and the Jets went to the conference finals the local beat writers in Boston were convinced the Jets had a better roster everywhere except QB - and even then Sanchez was young and people felt that competition wasn't over.
So, no, I'm not talking about individual transactions.
I think people VASTLY underestimate how much game planning and coaching contributed to the Patriots dynasty - in many cases IMO resulting in a team well outperforming their talent level.
I know it's about, but the refrain of "Belichick the coach bailed out Belichick the GM" had been spoken often up here, especially after the 2014 and 2018 Super Bowls. 2016 is chalked up to ATL coaching small, but Belichick deserves credit for his own teams adjustments.
I think his job as a GM gets often overlooked or even assumed to be better than it is because his team wins so much.
I think if you actually examine his GM history, you will have a higher respect for coaching or his staff's coaching (not sure how much you value coaching vs GM today). I mean he's not Matt Millen, but he's also not as proficient as some people think.

If he wanted to tank, they wouldn't have signed Cam. With Stidham and the Covid opt-outs, they had a chance.
