NGT: So Mekhi Becton returned to action yesterday

Ten Ton Hammer : 10/26/2020 7:12 pm
Look, I was scared off by a few of his perceived issues as much as anyone else, but this is a real shame to watch.

It's a lot harder to do so for Thomas, unfortunately.

Here's one point, of many that you can take from this:
Sometimes "pro ready" and "safe" isn't actually thus.
you purposely leave out...

the play where his defender pushed him back and he lost his balance because he squatted back and got knocked on his ass? I mean, there were a couple so surprised you didn't include at least one

This is taken from a 2 minute video of his highlights in this game. If you have the full game on tape, direct me to it.
I'm sure Becton had his bad plays yesterday...

But please show me a clip of Thomas playing like that from 2020. Hint: you won't.

And yes, I get it. He's 21. It's only 7 games. It'd be foolish to write him off a bust. That said, he's been awful & to say otherwise is ignore reality.
also...
Drewcon40 : 10/26/2020 7:32 pm : link
...he is carrying a lot of weight on that frame and that holds potential for injury. We aren't wishing that on him but that is a concern. He looks better than Thomas at the moment but let's give it a year or two.
I didn't think I had to preface the thread with a disclaimer

But you can't.

why would I dvr that shitshow? I got to watch it live and that was painful enough. Even through not even paying attention It wasn't hard to find a bunch of plays were his lack of balance was an issue

I would be embarassed if a 350lbs human couldnt knock a dt on his ass that was engaged with someone else
For the last time: still way too early to judge either player
SGMen : 10/26/2020 7:53 pm : link
Thomas needs technique work in pass protection. No question there, but there is no doubt in my mind he will be a solid run blocker. Perhaps Thomas is our RT and Peart our LT in 2021? I'd be happy if both became solid players.

Not having a full off-season really hurt the Giants.

Exactly. Some of this shit is comical. I’m 40 years old . Giants have won 4 Super Bowls in my lifetime. These dummkopfs are fellating the Jets and Cardinals. Jets haven’t won since Namath, and the Cardinals in 70 years or so, the longest drought in any major sport.

This is fucking silly. Its been 7 games amd we all knew that the learning curve for rookies would be rough. How soon we gorget.

The point is with Becton you at least see flashes of the potential to be great. You can legitimately make the argument that if he learns and develops you have a perennial all-pro LT on your hands.

Where’s the potential with Thomas outside of being the next Flowers?

It is 100% irrelevant which ones of us wanted Becton over thomas.

If we're at the point where we can't discuss tackle play at all unless it's andrew thomas, what's the point of having a discussion board?

They're in the same draft class, they're all rookies playing under the same offseason circumstances. They're going to be compared, like it or not.

I want talking about paying a highlight clip. I was talking about just feeling good about any of the five of them. And why would we?

Overall or moments? Because you can't deny that their have been feel good moments.

And, you're feeling good about the Jets last 3 #1's as compared to NY's in toto? I actually would prefer the Giants' myself.

So you can't put together a highlight clip of Jones, Barkley and Lawrence?? You can't feel good about any of them?? And using the logic you do, why the fuck would Jets fans be feeling good, afterall, a high draft pick plays and they still lose.

Not really, no. It's been three years of irrelevance and bad football. The first good feeling has been Judge, who actually might be able to point is back in the direction of actual professional football.

That makes me sad, actually. Even in the morass of bad losses and overall disappointment, I've seen moments of tremendous individual plays from both Saquon and DJ that make me feel good. I thought that was true for everyone; small moments of joy in darkness and all that jazz.

It makes me sad too. Watching the Giants used to be a lot of fun.

FMiC - how's it feel to have spent three years being the white knight for an arrogant failure at GM? It's not often someone is as wrong for as long on something that big as you've been. I can understand you grasping at straws now.
This.
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/26/2020 10:44 pm : link
white knight shit is pathetic.

Look at the board today. Nearly every fucking thread has references to the GM being an abject failure. Prior to the GM, it was Eli.

Everything has become an over the top mob beating. And the foolishness is acting as if just replacing the GM is the cure, just like replacing Eli was the cure.

Some of you guys spend a great deal of time posting every fucking day about how terrible the team you follow is. And then proudly beat your chests that you've been "right". It's so warped that if people aren't trashing the team daily, they are called "defenders".

Spending so much time on a FAN site mocking people who aren't screaming like a banshee daily seems pretty fucking rewarding, no? What do you get for bitching for several fucking years? The joy of watching a losing football team!

Yay you!

GoTerps and FMIC
eric2425ny : 10/26/2020 10:46 pm : link
I respect both of your opinions and enjoy both of your posts. I have supported Gettleman through this whole “rebuild” up until this season which I think we have in common FMIC. I agree with GoTerps on this one. I mean I’m not saying all of the guys the Giants have drafted are trash, but we haven’t really made much progress here the last few years. It’s getting pretty pathetic. Remember, the Browns were coming off an 0-16 season the year we drafted Barkley. Now they are looking like a potential playoff team and we look like we’ll be picking in the top 5 again. That’s piss poor GM work. We should be working our way towards middle of the pack at this point.
Haha...wonder who this sounds like?

Now this is hyperbole. No one is “fellating” the Jets. But it is extremely hard to see these other round one tackles playing so much better than ours, when we had the pick of the liter. And with Thomas, it’s not just a couple of isolated plays, it’s fairly constant. Are you seeing different?

Gettleman was 11-5 in his last year before he wore out his welcome in your backyard.

In three years here so far, the teams he has built have ten wins. Ten.

So absolutely replacing the GM is the cure.
