California Angels was ok ; never realized where they played till the longest however
Anaheim Angels better. Los Angeles angels just ghastly
Houston Texans. (Like what was wrong with Houston oilers?)
Miami Marlins not as good as Florida Marlins.
Any others?
Houston Oilers went to Tenn and there is probably a naming rights thing. Plus, the Titans kept BASICALLY the same colors as the Oilers. So even if it werent a naming rights issue (they were the Tennessee Oilers for a season or two I believe), would you really want the Oilers name and logo with a new color scheme?
Why is Florida Marlins better than Miami Marlins?
I think the only name that was changed and sounds stupid is the St. John's Red Storm. Couldve done better there.
In other words Florida Marlins I like. And they never should have changed it.
Seminoles is OK.
I also prefer Washington Bullets to Wizards.

In honor of Ken Stabler rename them the Las Vegas Snake Eyes. :-)

The last became too appropriate to be appropriate.
That's just Snyder giving everyone who pressured the change the middle finger. He'd make a killing in merchandise off a new name, he obviously doesn't want to.
They went with the Lansing Lugnuts. I hated it at first. And the symbol they use is not even a nut, it's a bolt.
But, shows what I know, because it was just bad enough to be good, and it took off. Solid cap tip to the auto industry there. Their gear sold a lot early on. And the slogan "Go Nuts!" was a boon.

Ridiculous.

I'm fine with the Las Vegas Raiders, which still sounds weird but 2020, whatever.
Though, I had wished they tweaked the uniforms a bit. I still see them as the Oakland/LA Raiders.
Eh. Whatever. The west side of the country is irrelevant. Let them do their weird thing ;-)
The Baltimore/Washington Bullets is dubious for obvious reasons.
New York Titans kinda sucks. Get your own identity Jets-to-be. Second fiddle status built right in with that original nickname.
I believe they chose the “Texans” in part because competing with the Cowboys for fans in the state (even in Houston) they knew was going to be difficult, so it was a calculated move knowing that was the most marketable name to try to incorporate all of Texas and maximize the fan base. Similar reasoning I think behind saying certain teams are from entire states or even regions— Tennessee, Minnesota, Arizona, Carolina, New England... the hope is to incorporate more fans if they think a single city by itself won’t give them a large enough fanbase (and I doubt the Cowboys would have approved of that franchise being from “Texas” as opposed to Houston, so it’s almost like they found a loophole with the name Texans).
The "Metropolitans' and 'Knickerbockers' realized their names were just too out-there and settled on just 'Mets' and 'Knicks' Better, but not good.
SOme genius thought it was better to make the yard into a concert only amphitheater a few years ago and the Bluefish are no more. Still waiting on that first concert.
The stupidity of it was that with only 60 MiLB home games, it would have been no problem to do both. Now we have an empty rotting ball yard.

I agree, I had more fun going to those games than MLB games. Easy in easy out, nice stadium, And they had better beer on tap there.

The Bridgeport Bluefish. I miss going to see a game here and there on a nice summer night. Dave Eiland was the manager when I first took the kids there. Nice venue, saw some old players like Juan Gonzalez trying to make comebacks. and the High Schools all played their "rivalry games" there. It was nice

Exactly! And a fun, inexpensive place to bring kids to their first games close to home.

Then they shoul dhave called themselves the Tenessee oilers and stil had the oil rig on the helmet and everything; instead of the generic "titans". Either that or the "Texans" (cringe) should have bought I off them --naming rights or whatever) and they become the oilers
how about Swamp Dragons? :-)
Lakers, Jazz, Mets, Knicks, Dodgers would all seem bad if they already hadn't happened.
(what is wrong with LA Dodgers anyway)?
I was living in Orlando when they named the Magic and I wanted to vomit. Hated it then, hate it now.

For sure. Actually I really enjoy the Soundtigers games too.
Especially since Utah doesn't allow music.
You probably just forgot the former name of this Yankee A-ball team... The Tampa Yankees.

Yes. The Arena is great too.
Also, Nashville Predators? Yeah, great name...
In other words Florida Marlins I like. And they never should have changed it.
Seminoles is OK.
I disagree on the Marlins name.
The team's name was taken from the original Miami Marlins, a AAA baseball team from 56-60.
The name Miami Marlins also has alliteration going for it while "Florida Marlins" does not.
I also prefer Washington Bullets to Wizards.
The raiders have moved in the past. Why does Oakland have more of a claim than LA?
But someone has to go back where they came from.
You know Las Vegas is not going to be home for any sports franchise any time soon. Vegas is what it is. You go there for a few days and get the heck out.
The Chargers should have moved or the Rams back to St. Louis and the Raiders in LA

Florida Marlins rolls off the tongue. Why did they call it Florida to begin with?
Didn't the football Cardinals initially call themselves the Phoenix Cardinals? But with the state flag on their jersey made more sense to appeal to whole state (Tucson).
Memphis Grizzlies? Lame...

Florida Marlins "rolls off the tongue" better than Miami Marlins? LOL. Yeah OK.
Alliterative sports names always "roll of the tongue better". (That's why they call it alliteration.)
Philadelphia Phillies
Chicago Cubs
Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh Penguins
Boston Bruins
Washington Wizards
Cleveland Cavaliers
LA Lakers
And of course...the Miami Marlins.

If is so great why isn't everyone doing it?
Also the Lakers was not named in LA
And Chicago Cubs I don't think Qualifies since it is not pronounced as a C in Chicago.

ah, then it fits this thread - cringeworthy and I'd wish to change it back.
