NFT: Raptors may need to relocate for this season

Longtimelurker : 10/27/2020 11:51 am
Toronto will most likely not allow for games to be played in the near future. Louisville and KC have been discussed. Wonder if Buffalo, Pittsburgh or Baltimore would be interested.
Kansas City an option - ( New Window )

So we can see some quality basketball for the first time in years.
It would

be awesome if they came to Baltimore but our arena is as shitty as they come. It's barely adequate to host Lingerie Football games.
Is there going to be

fans? If not Buffalo probably makes the most sense.

If the players can get essential status allowing them to cross the border, it's a couple hour drive to and from if they're even allowed to leave where they play.
Buffalo Braves for a season.

Better wear the throwbacks too.
I’m guessing this impacts

The Leafs, Senators, Flames, Canucks, Jets, Oilers, Canadiens and Blue Jays as well?

Does seem like a competitive disadvantage. Although maybe getting out of Edmonton is a bonus I don’t know.

Maybe Ujiri can run both teams for a season.

NHL is discussing a division realignment for 2021 only that includes a Canada-only division to avoid cross border travel until the playoffs.
Newark

reportedly a major option for the Raptors.
Buffalo

Would probably be the destination if the nba doesn’t revert to the bubble and the border remains closed. 90 minute drive from Toronto so families of players and staff wouldn’t be as impacted. Toronto had a basketball team many years ago that became the Buffalo Braves now the Clippers so there is precedent
KC

is apparently making a push.

“Bring them to KC,” Mahomes tweeted on Monday night, referring to the Raptors.

While Lucas says he has yet to speak with Mahomes about the possible NBA move to Kansas City, the city’s mayor said that, “When [Patrick Mahomes] lends his support behind something, as I think probably our biggest star in the National Football League right now, then I think it shows something significant about it.”

In addition to Kansas City, Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill recently reported that Louisville is another possible site if the Raptors can’t play in Toronto. Buffalo, Newark and Seattle would additionally appear as other possible candidates, to name just a few.

Lucas notes that his city has an NBA-ready arena, in the recently re-branded T-Mobile Center and a business community eager to get involved with professional basketball. He also says he’s “not concerned” about possible travel issues for the Raptors if they play in Kansas City and notes that his city is a TV market larger than cities like Milwaukee, Oklahoma City New Orleans and Memphis.

Won’t go for KC. Players and fans would revolt. I’d see them end up in Seattle before KC but Buffalo is tte most logical landing spot

Why would players and fans revolt about KC?

The Raptors especially under Ujiri pride themselves on being a team composed of different nationalities reflective of the diverse nature of Toronto . Ujiri said after the championship that he wants the Raptors to have global supporters like Man U . They are also branded We the North.

Seattle and Buffalo have the North going for it geographically and more politically aligned in their cities and states. KC is just a very different place.
