Xavien Howard on the block

BLUATHRT : 10/27/2020 3:20 pm
He has a large contract. AYV of around 15 million, but he's under it until 2024 and has an out with a dead cap hit after 2022 of 2.9 million. Pair him with Bradberry and you have an exceptional CB Tandem. Would you do it for a 3rd? I know we have limited draft capital right now, but he's a proven player. He's still young (27) and knows Graham's D. And our history of 3rd rounders, you could say is cursed.

no way

our 3rd round pick might be the 1st or 2nd pick in the 3rd round. We should be trading players for assets not trading draft capital for players.
If he can be a future piece absolutely

Giants have plenty of cap space, this is not a trade for 1 year

Never ubderstood this line of thinking, since when are draft picks better than established players? it is about adding talent

This is my exact thought. Not often you get difference makers that are young and productive in FA. The draft is a crapshoot.

as the OP mentioned he has a large contract. if you want a highly paid CB, just go sign one this year and keep your pick
Howard is a top 5 CB in the league
AdamBrag : 10/27/2020 3:30 pm : link
There's a chance that he might for for a 1st, but it'd certainly take our 2nd rounder, at minimum.

In general, Giants are 1-6. They shouldn't be giving up significant draft capital and taking on salary. That's going to make it really difficult to rebuild.
I'd be concerned about injuries
adamg : 10/27/2020 3:31 pm : link
He's missed games every season except one

What corner with his skillset is going to be available this year on the open market? I'm not seeing a comparable talent.

What draft pick in the 3rd (Corner is usually one of the longest positions to adapt to the NFL game) is going to contribute at the same level or close to it?

Patrick Peterson - albeit he's older (31) and will probably be tagged.

Corners after 30 generally drop off fairly quickly. He will want a contract on the same level, if not more.
Make the deal!!!!
GiantBlue : 10/27/2020 3:45 pm : link
We need talent!

There is no sure bet in the draft....only what we see out on the NFL field.

Make the deal!
Need a cap allocation example
JonC : 10/27/2020 3:46 pm : link
Tough to see them allocate $30M per on two CBs, similar to letting Tomlinson go and not spending $30M per on two DTs, when the Edge talent is so subpar.

Could they? Yeah, but they need to understand how they're going to acquire some missing key talent.

since you can just sign a free agent CB in the offseason if you really want and keep your 3rd round pick which (especially an early 3rd) which should be a starter in the NFL if you are drafting correctly.
I'd do it for a 4th or 5th
ryanmkeane : 10/27/2020 3:51 pm : link
parting with anything under that would be dumb at this point.

Came out and debunked that trade block rumor
they don't want evan engram? lol
Platos : 10/27/2020 4:10 pm : link
.
Cap wise he’s a good deal for his talent
BillT : 10/27/2020 4:55 pm : link
Signed through ‘24 at about $12m per with no dead cap if cut at any time.
I’d do it for Engram and our 4th
Metnut : 10/27/2020 5:00 pm : link
I think they’d want a 2nd for him, so doubt that’s enough.
If anything, Giants need to be sellers
morrison40 : 10/27/2020 5:01 pm : link
Not Buyers . They are 2 DRAFTS away from being playoff competitive , not 2 players away .

You’re giving up 5 or 6 years in age. If the Giants were a team on the cusp of success, it would be one thing. But they’re a long way off. Give me the 65th pick.
Absolutely not

Reale01 : 10/27/2020 10:57 pm : link
That are rumored to be on the block this year. Not saying we should but getting a proven player for any 5, 6 or 7 round pick is a win IMO. That assumes they are healthy and you have the requisite cap space.
