Zeitler on the move...

Giants four practice squad protections this week: QB Clayton Thorson, RB Alfred Morris, OL Chad Slade and K/P Ryan Santoso.
The Giants haven't protected Slade since Week 3 and they don't have any known injuries on the OL. Let your Kevin Zeitler trade rumors run wild!

No? No what? Why no?
Tate is giving you nothing too, but Coleman has had a lot of chances.

I’d still rather put Coleman out there. Tate has no future here.

Both do nothing yet one is due a lot of money the next two years. I know who I’m taking.
Tons of teams need help and it’s reasonable to assume these players would play better on better teams.
I think fans tend to overrate their good players and underrate the bad. Zeitler has a market, just not sure what our price is.

No they are not trading Tate - I doubt there is anything imminent
They have been signing and releasing WRs all season. Just looking for something to work.
Who is taking a 32 y/o WR owed about 20 mill after this season?
And we clear cap space. If they think Lemieux is the goods, getting a day 3 pick makes sense.

Ex, say trading Tate saves $5mm rest of this season. That $5mm would carry over into next season I believe like any other excess salary cap would.
I think Duggan is being tongue in cheek. I don't think this was serious speculation.

I believe it would be like cutting the player today - any remaining guaranteed money would hit the cap this year and any remaining salary would go to the new team. Future years would be clean.
Practically speaking though since the remaining cap room this year can carry over to next year, it's kind of the same thing.
Thorson could have more to do with possible COvid issues at QB. You can't suddenly lose a QB or two and have nobody on the squad to play QB. Just a thought.
The Bills had an issue this weekend where they only had 1 TE available.

Does protecting Thorson mean the Cowboys are trading their 1st for McCoy?

There's noise the Giants are shopping Zeitler. It must mean Shane Lemieux is earning a shot. (Or a re-shuffling of Peart to RT and Fleming to RG.)
The Giants have also been publicly posturing on Evan Engram. They like using the media to get their messages out and this week, they made it loud & clear they were keeping Engram and saw him as a weapon. Why? To puff Engram's feelings? A response to message board criticism? Probably not. Posturing? I'd think so.
Wouldn't it be great if the Giants could add a 3rd and a 4th, while getting Lemieux on the field and Engram out of the building? Talk about a coup.
He probably will be released at the end of the year.

Frankly, we should've cut him last offseason. His 2020 salary wasn't guaranteed because of his suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. The Giants could've cleared his 8M by cutting him, which would've left only 2M in dead money. But I digress.
Teams apparently are interested in Tate. I don't know why because he's not very good, but according to Albert Breer, teams are interested.
"Philly’s opponent Thursday night, the Giants, are open for business as well. Veterans Golden Tate and Kevin Zeitler are two names that came up pretty consistently with other teams. Tate’s contract and declining production could make him difficult to move for anything significant. Zeitler, on the other hand, might fetch a return based on, again, the crying need for experienced linemen across the league."
As for Tate's salary, I believe the Giants or any team that assumes his contract can cut him in the offseason and just have 5 million of dead money against the cap.

This is incorrect. Any remaining guaranteed money is assumed by the team that traded for him. The Giants are relieved of that responsibility. Any unamortized signing bonus money, on the other hand, is accelerated into the current cap year.
Right but in Tate and Zeitler's cases the only guaranteed money they have left is prorated SB? So the only difference between trading them now or cutting them in the offseason is whether or not the trade return is worth not having them for the 2nd half of the year. The cap impact is the same.

I actually thought that’s what the title is was about. Totally forgot about Chad Slade.
Why would the Jets trade a draft pick in a wasted season? Only Gettleman does that.
If the Giants hold onto Engram and he gets hurt (not unlikely) so they're on the hook for $6m next year I'll be pissed.

the perennial all-star here on BBI who was cut by the vikes. My Zeitler speculation is he goes to the Jets for a 3rd (he said, ducking)!

That's the (bad) joke I was making. I hate to get rid of OL talent but if you do, get a 4th or higher for him. Fleming we'd be lucky to get a 4th.
