Funny you should mention her. Honor Blackman also checked out in 2020. Just horrible news about Sean Connery. As much as I liked his Bond movies, I think he improved as an actor and a personality later in life.

defined a role the way Connery did Bond. He as so suave and debonair. "Bond. James Bond." He was also great in so many other roles, including "The Hunt for Red October," and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." The irony is that he was offered but turned down the part of "Gandalf" in the "Lord of the Rings" that went to Ian McKellen. That was more great casting. I can't imagine anyone else as Gandalf. Sean Connery was the guy everyone wanted to emulate. He was one of the greatest actors of my lifetime and ever. RIP. God bless. Prayers to his family and friends.
James Bond is dead in my mind. He was it.

The movie where James Bond was supposed to be "old"?

The Hill is an underrated movie and TMC airs it often. In general, I didn't like "Murder on the Orient Express"
Loved him in Highlander

Outside of Bond in Goldfinger, this was my favorite. He was great as the defecting Russian captain.

Also liked Finding Forrester, Indiana Jones, and The Rock a lot

He was great in that, for sure.

90 is a long life, and his was certainly interesting. If you read about initial reaction to his being cast as Bond - there was plenty of skepticism that he would be the right actor (which he obviously was, in hindsight).

It's directed by Gus Van Sant: the guy who did Good Will Hunting. Similar kind of movie. It's good.

He was everything a man wanted to be.. love him as an actor.. 2020 is the year from hell!
Finding Forrester is also cool
UConn4523 : 10/31/2020 1:36 pm : link
as it’s local, shot predominantly in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Without giving anything away there’s an element of sports to it (not a “sports” movie but it plays a factor in the story).

It’s on Amazon Prime Video for whoever has it.

I think they nailed Gandalf with McKellan but I still can't help but wonder what Connery as Gandalf would have been like. A suaver Gandalf? "You shall not pass" with his lispy brogue? Would have been interesting for sure.
no one said pussy like Sean

by far the best bond
nochance : 10/31/2020 2:31 pm : link
Nobody had the wit charm and darkness of Sean Connery as Bond. Roger Moore had the wit and charm but was too nice and friendly, Daniel Craig was even more dark and mean but has very little wit and charm, and the rest of the Bonds are 2nd rate.
He was a real life badass
torrey : 10/31/2020 3:20 pm : link
on a movie set, Johnny Stompanato was causing trouble cause he had a rep as a Mafia guy. Connery had enough and walked up to Stompanato and decked him. No more was heard from the tough guy.

In the movie Second Hand Lions, Robert Duvall fights 4 men while Michael Caine watches. Supposedly based on a story where Sean Connery beat 4 men in a nightclub. Interestingly enough,Michael Caine was there also.

Great actor ....imo

He was my favorite Bond. Terrific actor. Finding Forrester is one of his best movies. The Man Who Would be King was another. 90 is a very good run.
He was dead-on in The Untouchables, but
81_Great_Dane : 11/1/2020 2:41 am : link
I don't think that was close to his best work. Kind of broad. Super fun, but broad. Sometimes that's what a movie needs, and that movie needed exactly what he brought to it. But Connery's best work is so much richer.

The Man Who Would Be King, Robin and Marian, so good in so many films. He was sometimes the best thing in very disposable films, like The Rock.

Little remembered but watchable: His High-Noon-in-Outer-Space, "Outland." Not to be confused with Scotland-set romantic adventure "Outlander," which should have had Connery but doesn't.

"Outlander" in turn is not to be confused with "Highlander," in which which Connery was great fun playing an Egyptian named Ramirez with a Scottish accent, opposite Christophe Lambert as a Scot with a French accent. I love that movie.

Great actor in so many roles.
