I grew up in NJ in the 80s and 90s but have since moved away. I was talking with some folks in TN yesterday and none of them had ever heard of mischief night let alone participated.
So I started asking other neighbors and got the same response. I'm now wondering if it still a thing?
It was a tradition in CT too growing up. We egged a few houses and toilet papered a few trees in my day. Good clean fun. But doubt it still goes on,
Don't forget socks with flour.

Yeah that was one of the names of D12's (Eminem's CD) and he is from Detroit.
I thought Mischief Night died with my kids when the cops really started to crack down. Maybe 1999 or 2000 was the last time anyone here did anything drastic.
Lol. Someone must've put 600 gallons of detergent or dish soap in one of the display fountains in town because there were soap suds that reached all the way across the street.
Nah...I grew up in Poughkeepsie NY and we did it every year.
But I'm an old fart, and it seems to have gone away.
And as a current old fart, I'm glad. *grin*
It was always Mischief Night, it's just North Jersey tends to have stupid names for everything.

Called it cabbage night. It became mischief night later on.

Not where I grew up.
Yep, still goosey night for me...
Ewwwwwwww. You’re so scary and bad ass in Vegas!
They don’t do it around here at all any more though.
Well, yeah. It’s juveniles that do this stuff. You don’t think people are suggesting they still do this as adults, do you?
Westchester NY also had it. Or doorbell night.

WTF? Juvenile as hell.

Haha, touche.
Was surprised that no one knew about it when my family moved to Rochester.
Speaking of juveniles, there are probably way more people I'd love to egg as adults compared to when I was a kid.
Now we know who went running home to rat on everyone to his mommy
great times!
Nah. Everyone around here was bitching that Mischief Night was a lost art around 2000. Things started to change because everyone was anticipating that October 30th was the night, so, in its dying day kids went out and did their thing after getting candy late Halloween night. I don't rememeber seeing a single egg or toilet paper in 2001 and that was it.
Schools started putting dances and social events on the night of the 30th to deter kids from going out. Don't know if they still bother with this method because I doubt kids even know or care. They'd rather not sacrifice a night of XBOX live.
Besides in NJ, cops won't do anything about it evn if you had definitive evidence lol If you were to call them over that, they'd do absolutely nothing and spend their time bitching at you.
