Acceptable holding and the Giants OL

George from PA : 11/1/2020 7:24 pm
With the Giants on MNF, and Eagles/Dallas on SNF....and too cold and rainy for Golf.....one can concentrate on specific parts of interest.

I tried to see how other Teams OL play...trying to understand how can the Giants continue to be so bad...

Yes, Jones is not slinging it like he did last year. He also does not seem to change the play like many QBs do....

It seems to me that there is rampant holding...Rampant across the entire NFL....with no calls.

I do not see it from the Giants OL. Or at least when The Giants do it its under desperation..others do it right away....as part of the play.

Did the Giants get the memo?

The OL is struggling

For the following reasons:
They have a new LT, C, and RT.

They have a rookie LT who did not have a normal offseason. So many people fail to realize the amount of practice time that these rookies have missed. They are much further behind than normal draft classes. Few OT's step into the starting lineup during their rookie seasons and play great.

The Giants starting center never played the position before until this season. Again he did not have any practice time prior to training camp. Most of us expected him to struggle early on with hopes that he would improve as he became more comfortable at the position. This is exactly what happened and now it appears that the Giants have their starting center. The extension that Gettleman signed him to looks even better right now.

RT Cam Fleming was signed to be the swing tackle this season. He's an excellent backup but not someone you want as your full time starting tackle. He is starting because Solder opted out and his time in the starting lineup will hopefully be over shortly with Matt Peart taking over. Fleming has struggled this season but he's playing as expected.

At the beginning of camp I thought that the Giants were deep at guard because of Hernandez, Zeitler, Lemieux, Gates, Murphy, and Slade. The guards have been a big disappointment. I was expecting Hernandez to have a breakout season and Zeitler improving over his injury plagued 2019 season. Zeitler has struggled all season and hopefully the Giants can trade him for a day 3 pick soon. It's time to give Lemieux a shot at RG when Hernandez is cleared.

I watched Hebert play today. Some on here rave about him

His Oline gave him plenty of time today to make plays. Either that or Denver’s D line stinks. Either way , Hebert did not impress at all. Jones to me has a much higher ceiling. Hebert was able to step into his throws the entire game.Still threw 2 picks. If the Giants get their O Line straighten out Jones will excel .

And to add to that tonight they get a rookie left guard as Hernandez is on the Covid list.

JPP has vowed to destroy them.
