I don't know if this was already discussed if so I will delete.
One of my former players is playing for the Huskies. I was speaking with his dad last night and he told me that with UConn's basketball team changing conferences that it essentially leaves the football program with nowhere to play.
He then said that while the school is not publicly saying anything yet. It is pretty much a done deal and there are a lot of players already planning their transfers come January. Including his son. He is upset because his son chose Uconn over other offers at Umass and Illinois in 2019 and it will now be harder to find a school where he will have a chance to play.
I was never really a Uconn fan othe but it really sucks to see any program shut down.
I was a freshman at UConn in 2003 and went to every football game. They were a blast. We held our own, definitely a top 30ish team there for a while and then it all went to shit. Despite being a basketball school there was overwhelming support for UConn football back then.
At least we got Matt Peart out of the deal.
As someone else said, the dismantling of the BE and it's ripple effects all these years later just f'n sucks.
I think it really all started with them not allowing Penn State to join the BE back when they wanted to. If that happened, the football arm of the BE would have been right up there with the basketball side and the BE would still be going strong today. I can't remember the specifics of it and maybe someone else does, but I want to say it was Crouthamel (AD at SU) that was against them joining at the time.
