It figures there’d be tornado warnings in the tri state area tonight
djm : 11/15/2020 9:17 pm : link
This game was so rare. A nice “normal” 60 minute NYG win over Philly, in a big game no less. The universe is all fucked up from today’s events.

Fantastic win. Jones looked superb. All around great effort.
One interesting stat is neither
Gregorio : 11/15/2020 9:21 pm : link
team committed a turnover. NYG also had relatively few penalties. These are signs of effective coaching, players are making progress.
Didn’t mention it before, but jeez Doug Peterson.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/15/2020 9:26 pm : link
As badly as Miles Sanders was kicking the Giants ass today and Boston Scott kicks their ass every day, they should’ve had 35-40 carries between them. Then he kept putting Jalen Hurt in the game for no fucking reason whatsoever. So instead of running the ball, he bailed the Giants out with a combo of Carson Wentz not doing much and Jason Kelce apparently snapping shotgun snaps for the first time ever.
Great game
HomerJones45 : 11/15/2020 9:29 pm : link
Jonesy played well, good gameplan, well executed. They looked like the better team today. Keep it going.
This team is so good,
Silver Spoon : 11/15/2020 9:56 pm : link
it almost feels like a 4 win team.

I said 6 wins. Still feel good about it.

Lots of posters on this board refused to acknowledge the progress that was happening even though we lost some of those games in really tough fashion. Funny that most everyone of those posters are either quiet or saying things like “wow this is great! Love this!” tonight as if they weren’t completely and utterly dismissing this team 4 weeks ago.

They won their 3rd game. Yes, people will praise them when they win.

you miss the point of the post entirely, per usual.

The calculus of “I told you guys things were good” after winning a game was a little too much for me to grasp.

ryanmkeane : 11/15/2020 11:32 pm : link
the very fact that you refuse to acknowledge progress shows just about everything we need to know. There’s a difference between getting your ass kicked, and losing a hard fought game that you could argue you outplayed the other opponent for the majority of the game. Giants have done that multiple times this year and come up short.

My point was that lots of posters were simply blind to this notion, or refused to believe it because of their hatred for DG or Mara or Jones or whatever. And even after a nice win today, it’s still happening.

Just when are the Giants going to get credit for doing something good? First it was well Washington sucks so what. Now today we have posters today “well Philly sucks.” I guess Tampa must suck too. I guess the Rams aren’t good either.
I remember a time about
ryanmkeane : 11/15/2020 11:35 pm : link
2 weeks ago where posters were raving about Carson Wentz and his ability to “lift up his teammates, it’s a special quality” when saying Jones never does it. How’d that go today?
A good win, more progress
JonC : 11/15/2020 11:36 pm : link
Never sucks to beat the Eagles, even when they're struggling.

OL, Jones, receivers, Gallman, all are improving and Jones protected the football nicely for a second game in a row.

Defense played with more discipline. Big thing I see on this side is the lack of second level and backend talent on the Edges and Corner. Tough to scheme around those two bare spots, and often leads to them failing to get stops and get off the field when they really should.

Also leads me to wonder if part of their plan is build up the middle, rather than try to find the impact Edge talent that's so hard to find. Patriots never really had great Edge players either, but the defense was smart, well-prepared, tough, and play strong up the middle to make up for it.

Did a much better job today, but still. need. finishers. The top talent that wins championships. Will Jones be that type of QB is a big question to answer, as well as can they get a defensive star up front from the 2021 draft who fits the scheme and plan.
When have I refused to acknowledge progress?
AcesUp : 11/15/2020 11:38 pm : link
They’re getting better. The coaches and the players, they’ve improved over the last month. The point is they were really bad before and deserved criticism and they need to continue to progress before any victory laps. Otherwise, we’re picking in the top 6 for the 4th consecutive season.

I wouldn't call it impressive until we see how the team plays against Cinci in two weeks.

Bye weeks can cut both ways. Gives you time to get healthy and rested, but if you allow yourself to lose focus mentally, it's not a switch you can just flip back on when you re-take the field after a week off. Eli once talked about how before the two Super Bowls, even with the team practicing, he would prepare himself mentally as though he had a game to play on the bye week Sunday. And he'd tell his teammates to do likewise.

Philly seemed to make quite a few unforced errors in the first half of the game today, and almost from the first snap seemed a step slow. They improved quite a bit in the second half, so I'm wondering if it took them that long to get back up to game speed.

So the Cincinnati game will be an interesting test for the team. I'm optimistic Judge will keep a watchful eye, and drop the hammer in practice next week if he feels the team isn't focused. If they come out firing on all cylinders in two weeks, that will be a statement in itself.

You were one of the few definitely suggesting they would come to life in the second half of the season. Hopefully they keep it up and make you look good.

I think "encouraged" is a bit more fitting than impressive.

Good point on the upcoming bye week and being complacent. Eagles were absolutely sloppy yesterday coming off theirs. How many times did they screw up the snap from Center...6 maybe? Lots of penalties although not enough for some. Dropped balls.

Maybe the Giants can play a scrimmage.
You are all excited because today Jones was a good game manager.

Good timing to suggest that after Brady

If you watched that game and came away thinking Jones was nothing more than a “good game manager” you don’t know what the fuck you’re watching
I don't mean to sound cruel

but using the good game manager label is just lazy and stupid.

If by game mgr you mean Jones was the most important and best player on the field yesterday? Sure.

but over the first 2 months here this place was so toxic and nasty. The DG bashers literally drove me and others away and all but called me out in some threads. Why? Because myself and others insisted on letting the entire season play out before we condemned the GM. I couldn't even post in some threads because of that take.

And here we are....If this team rallies to a 7-9 record and builds off this foundation of DG's players so many people here are going to just quietly be forgotten despite screaming and bullying this site for fucking months now. How we feeling today? Still want to run Leonard Williams out of town?

Let this be a lesson to you all. Coaching matters more than the GM picking the players. Good coaching manifests into wins. Bad coaching will sink the GM. We've seen this shit before. Ernie was public enemy #1 around here from 99-2004 and once the coaching met up face to face with Ernie's player personnel things changed for the better and Ernie is practically canonized around here.

It's all about the coaching.

Too soon? Don't care. I had to listen to this shit for months. Now some of you can.

You still need good players to win titles, coaching only covers up for so much. This is still a poor roster and Gettleman deserves the blame for that.

And who would dispute that? That doesn’t change the fact that this team in year three of Gettleman still has as many holes as it had when he took over. Yea they’ve shown progress in areas, but beating the Redskins and Eagles doesn’t all of a sudden mean Gettleman is absolved of his mistakes. Let’s see how they play against Arizona, Seattle, and Baltimore before we start saying people were wrong about Gettleman. Any progress of the last two weeks is moot if you go 4-12.
I didnt
crick n NC : 11/16/2020 10:29 am : link
Say Gettleman should be "absolved". The point is, it was considered an excuse as a defense of Gettleman, now it seems Judge is being used as an excuse to keep any credit from Gettleman. Two things or more can be right and more than likely are.

Gettleman has made mistakes, Judge is doing a great job coaching these current players and Gettleman has landed some good players that make the coaches job easier.

If the OL ends up being a plus group, and we see growth at LB from one of the young players, the number of holes isn't as many as previously. There are holes, especially at CB2 and WR, but the roster is getting more filled out

The OL is still a major question mark. Peart and Gates are pieces going forward. Lemiuix still is a liability in pass protection and Hernandez is in the middle of a second straight bad season. The run game against Tampa was impressive given their front but we’ll need to see them to that consistently against good teams.

lets see how it looks by week 17. Slowly we are seeing some question marks from September turn into answers by mid November.

That's fair to me, although I'm hesitant to say how "bad" Hernandez is considering my lack insight in regards to his position, not that he hasn't been bad. But overall, I agree, consistency is key.

Unless they are playing NYG or WASH, they aren't winning games. Look at their record over the last three years, minus those two teams.

And those days are coming to an end............

Pass protection is much tougher to gage but it could be telling the run game has been better without him
