The Giants are the Best Team in The NFC East . . . By Far

Ralph.C : 11/15/2020 5:27 pm
Leave it to 2020 to potentially provide us with one of the most unique seasons in Giants history. They’ve been 1-7, 3-7 or thereabouts many a season. However, those failing non-strike-season teams of yesteryear were all bad teams. This time, our 3-7 almost-in-a-tie-for-first-place wonders are a well coached, emerging team that can take us on a wild ride. We’ve gone from “Can we beat anybody?” early in the season to this feeling of “Is there anyone we can’t beat?”

And that’s just fine with me. I’ve “pushed my chips to the center of the table.”

And I’m all in.

The Giants coaching staff is off the charts good. They clearly are able to bring out the best of the talent they have. Players like Leonard Williams and Peppers who were underachieving with other coaching staffs are realizing their potential here and now. To a man, each player seems to understand their job because their job is clearly defined to them by the coaching staff.
That organized brain of Joe Judge is on display on the field.

So now let’s go be “The worst team to ever win the NFC East.”

And look. It’s all about who you are in the moment. Who you were in week one has nothing to do with the team you are in week 16. These Giants are on an upward trajectory and if they win the division there’s no limit to what they could do.

Because they can beat anybody.
Nice

I am fine with the worst team to win the NFC East by the way.

Go do it.
You the real mvp Ralph!

IDK, they all kind
section125 : 11/15/2020 5:36 pm : link
of suck. The Giants are the least talented of the teams, but they may be the best coached, hardest playing team.
Well...

Not by far... so far.
A noteworthy point
Dave on the UWS : 11/15/2020 5:43 pm : link
is this stag is STILL learning what people can and can’t do, and utilizing personnel on the best way. Two examples: Peppers- look how they are using him. RARELY deep in coverage, taking advantage of his superior athletic ability.
DJ- look at how much more Garrett is calling the read option to take advantage of Jones’s speed as a runner.
This team will only continue to get better.
I don't agree
islander1 : 11/15/2020 5:50 pm : link
but there's no questioning the fact we are improving every week.

We legitimately beat the Eagles today. No if, no buts, no officials sketchy calls. We soundly beat them and that's honestly not something I expected.
I think they have to win at least 4 more games
Simms11 : 11/15/2020 6:28 pm : link
to do that, but I’m not sure they can do that with their schedule. Some really tough teams coming up, Baltimore and Seattle to name a few.

I see three possible wins. I cannot see Baltimore or Seattle. Dallas, Bengals, Browns and maybe Arizona.
That says a lot more about the division

Than it does the Giants

Big ditto. But, it is nice to finally seem to have a light at the end of the tunnel in November.
I’m just glad it is NOVEMBER and we still have hope.

We have something to discuss that has to do with the current season. When you look at our schedule compared to the rest of the division we have a shot.
In 1981, under new HC Joe Gibbs,

Washington started 0-5 and looked terrible. They finished 8-8 and kicked off their era of success under Gibbs.

In 2020, under new HC Joe Judge, the Giants started 0-5 and looked terrible. They're 3-2 since. Can they finish at 8-8? That might be good enough to make the playoffs.

But under Judge, the Giants seem to be doing the thing Shurmur couldn't get them to do: Turning that oil tanker around and becoming a much better team over the course of a single season. That's what I've been looking for in a coach for a while. Still only cautiously optimistic, but I think Judge is the real deal.
For me

I felt something this morning prior to the game I hadn't felt in 4 years, a building excitement for todays game. I said to another Giant fan, if not not today when? We have been in all but 1 game. We played the Rams, Bucs, Bears and Pittsburgh tough. I knew today we had the opportunityto take down the eagles.
I think we are are the best team in the division but I know we have the best coaching staff in the division.
Judge motivates and puts together great game plans. Garett has been calling a great offensive game. Our O- coach has our o-line playing better than they have since 2011, and Patrick Graham has put together one hell of a Def.
I know how we felt about Gettleman but Leonard Williams is playing lights out and this years draft is looking great and that includes the emerging Andrew Thomas.
Kudos to the Giants
Coaching staff is excellent

Graham might be the best coordinator we have had since John Fox. Garrett was calling some awful games early in the season, he has improved immensely as the season has gone on. The TB game was probably his best game of the season but Jones was awful.

And Jones had his best game of the season. The Giants are learning to lean into his strengths. His legs should be a focal point of the offense. A lot of RPO and rely on that quick strike passing mixed with some deep shots.

Thanks for acknowledging that Jim! I didn’t want to make that the point of the post because the glee I feel right now is not about self accolades. It’s about the raging excitement of all this. I’ve never stopped bleeding blue but between working every Sunday at Metlife for the last 10 years and the team being bad for the last 8, my emotional finger has been off the pulse of the team the way it used to be.

It felt great to be tense again during the game. It even felt great to hurt as much as I did during the close losses we’ve suffered this year. Bottom line is that it feels great caring as much as I ever have. I’m thanking the football Gods for providing this circumstance at precisely this time.

Giants were the only team in the division who has improved this season. He had high praise for the Giants' coaching. The team is respect from people who cover other teams in the division.
"...By Far" ...??
bw in dc : 11/15/2020 8:45 pm : link
Really?

If the Chiefs were in the NFC Least they'd be the best team "by far".

I wrote last week that your thread was too early.
TheEvilLurker : 11/15/2020 9:05 pm : link
This week, it makes sense...BTW, I wrote when, not if...

And why would KC be in the NFC East? They are in the west + an AFC team. It makes no sense.

I’ll tell you what. If the Giants next game was vs. the Chiefs the Giants would have a punchers chance to win. I sincerely believe that.
While the Giants at this point are far from being a good team...
RC in MD : 11/16/2020 7:32 am : link
they're not a bad team either. Other than the terrible game against the Niners, the Giants were still in the game in all of the losses (the Steelers game got away from them a bit at the end). One or two plays here and there, and they could be sitting at 5-5 or even at 8-2. Those missed plays I attribute to the team being new (new coaches, lack of practices, etc.) more so than this team being bad.

Now, I'm not saying that this is a Super Bowl team or even a playoff team, but it's not the #30-#32 ranked team in the league. I would say it's definitely in the middle of the pack, which is encouraging with the lack of real talent in many positions.

The 3-7 Panthers took KC to the wire in KC.

The same Panthers that were called better than us "by far" and we now sit at the same record.

I am in the mindset that the Giants have a chance with all of the teams left on our schedule. While the Ravens are a great team, if you force Jackson to throw, he will show you that he's a mediocre passer. The question is can we score on that defense? I may even go out on a limb and say that Jones may have more rushing yards than Jackson in that game. As far as the Seahawks go, that defense is garbage, so we can definitely score on them. The question is will we see the MVP Wilson or the Wilson, who's been pressing a bit too hard lately? Should be more competitive than have been anticipated earlier in the season.
