Rumor that seems reliable: OKC to send Dennis Schroeder to LAL for Danny Green's corpse and the 28th overall pick.

One would assume that this means Rajon Rondo (FA) will not return. Note that he went to UK and you'll see a pronounced roster shift (or assumption of a shift) to it being UK strong.

Rumor that seems unreliable: James Harden to Nets for Lavert, Dinwiddie, Allen and perhaps draft compensation.

Suffice to say that earlier report of an agreement between the Nets and Rockets was BS.

Jared Dudley made a good point
bceagle05 : 11/17/2020 8:03 pm : link
about the players’ power to do this. He mentioned that owners fought to get rid of the long-term contracts (think Allan Houston) because they felt players cashed in and stopped working as hard. The unintended consequence of shorter deals was allowing players more power over personnel decisions because of the looming threat they’ll leave.

Anyway, I still think this Harden thing is a bridge too far. I hope Houston holds firm and gets a star player in return.
Interesting point by Dudley, I hadn't thought about that
Strahan91 : 11/17/2020 8:10 pm : link
but at the same time, Anthony Davis remains an anomaly of a player forcing their way to where they want to go. And even in that case, it's not like the Pelicans didn't get good value relative to packages other teams could've put together.

If I'm Houston I am simply not agreeing to that Brooklyn deal. I'm holding out for Ben Simmons and shopping around for a better package. Maybe that doesn't happen, but that Brooklyn deal is going to be there for them whenever they want it.

Sounds very likely that Giannis is signing the supermax with the Bucks. Good for him and saves us a year of bullshit rumors he's interested in New York.

That’s be a great trade for NYK, don’t know if Boston would do it/ want more.

really changed my mind on this 15 times and probably will again, but I'm really starting to think they should take Vassell. I think he has a higher ceiling than most want to say since the 3 and D trope is so easy. Could definitely develop into a 3rd scoring option on a team.
Yeah, Vassell is the guy I wanted on lottery night
bceagle05 : 11/17/2020 10:52 pm : link
when we landed the 8th pick. I'm sure that was the first name I threw out there on that thread. We've dissected every possibility but I'm still coming back to Vassell. My only concern is Kira Lewis' potential - I could see us regretting passing on him.

I like Kira a lot. It's between Kira/Hayes/Vassell for me.

I keep trying to talk myself into Toppin but I can't do it. Too upright, too bad a defender, not great awareness.

I don't think Haliburton can create enough at the PG spot so I would pass on him.

And Okoro probably has a solid role in the NBA but he's just a bad fit with RJ.

The only other guy that could be the pick is possibly Avidja, who also isn't a great fit with RJ but I think has high upside.
That list works for me Jon

The Knicks have three glaring weaknesses - point play, shooting, and defense. They have to come out of this with either a point guard or a guy who can really shoot, and whoever it is needs to at least not be a defensive black hole.
Vassell please

besides Okoro i would be mad at, this draft is a crapshoot, but i also think most of the players are high floor

Tobbin could be a bad pick due to lack of quickness and bad defensive play, but Okoro seems like a bust candidate. Would love Quickley at 27 or 38...
Draft
31southst : 11/18/2020 9:06 am : link
This is an interesting draft to me in that I really don't have any prospect at 8 I truly hate. Personally I'd love to see Hayes/Kira but no one is a slam dunk and no one has no redeeming qualities.

Completely agree with this. Okoro is by far the worst fit for this team. The last thing they need is another non-shooter, I can't watch another season of RJ beating his guy into the paint just to be met by 4 guys at the rim because we don't have anyone that can stretch the floor.

I know it's not the popular opinion, but I really want Toppin, Hayes, or Lewis. We never really got a chance to see what Chandler, Stat, and Carmelo could do together while all healthy, Mitch, Toppin, and RJ would be the young, new age version of that (all 3 guys have a heck of a lot of growth to do to live up to those guys, I know). Having Robinson on the floor will help cover up a lot of Toppin's flaws defensively, and you just hope Thibs can help him improve.

I would be just as happy with any of the PGs though, the need there is undeniable, and to me Lewis has the highest upside.
I find the Okoro distaste interesting.
Heisenberg : 11/18/2020 9:15 am : link
He's an elite athlete and can be an elite defender. And he's the kind of worker that makes it hard to say that he can't become a very good offensive player too. Fast enough to guard a PG. Strong enough to guard bigger wings.

I get that the offense is not there. But from the day he's drafted he's a defensive force. And while it wouldn't be fun to watch them shoot, a lineup with Mitch, Frank and Okoro would be a pain to play against.

In theory, the Knicks are building a real basketball development organization. You can see why Thibs would love him. He's a Jimmy Butler starter kit. Jaylen Brown is a good comp too. It's true that he may only end up to be a defensive player but even that's pretty damn good.
Wow they

Traded 27 and 38 for 23 and Tomic. Wonder who they can really want at 23?
