NFT: IPhone, WiFi question

LG in NYC : 11/16/2020 4:00 pm
I have an iphone 11 (had it at least 6-8 mos)... for the past week it has been struggling to connect with Wifi in my house.

No issues with the wifi in general. All other devices in house work fine.

but when I go to use my phone, it takes 2-3 minutes to find and connect with the wifi and be operational.

anyone else ever have this issue and if so, solution por favor?
If you haven't already

Turn phone completely on and off. Second delete/forget the wifi point from your iPhone and add it back again.
I don't have an iPhone but I have had similar issues.

What kind of router do you have? I have a verizon one that automatically switches between the 2.4 and 5 options depending on what gave that device the best service. However, my phone would have the issues you had. What I did was made it static on my phone. When I did that it was fine.
The last iOS release has the following update

Improves compatibility with Ubiquiti wireless access points

Which is so incredibly weird. Why would an Apple device need to be made more compatible with an AP that uses industry standards? It's like Ford making a Focus more compatible with NY roads.
Check VPN

I called last night and spoke to Apple Tech. Seems my VPN kept turning on. When I switched VPN off -connections were restored. I also took it a step further and deleted the VPN from my phone and iPad. BTW both kept switching on VPN - iPad and iPhone.
Today I noticed slow connectivity to net while traveling into a more populated are...unlike mine.. still access was extremely slow. Not sure what’s up with Verizon..(my provider)
Good luck with VPN!
thanks for responding

I had turned the phone off/on to no avail. I hadnt tried forgetting the wifi and then re-signing in. we will see if that does the trick.

my wifi is Verizon Fios but kicks to a mesh system inside the house. Like I said, no issues at all with any other device in the house.

As for that software update, I have no idea what that means! : )

Re: VPN - I do see "VPN" pop up in the upper corner of the phone so you may be on to something there... but don't I need the VPN turned on for security purposes?
Just turned off the VPN

That did the trick, thanks

But do I need the VPN on for security?

Glad it worked! The Apple tech didn’t think I needed VPN since I don’t use VPN to access my system. She also said I could delete it....so I did..
Call Apple and ask them the question...they’re great help...
Where did VPN come from?!

VPN means you are connecting to an external service or machine and tunneling all your traffic through it. That's not something that comes factory-installed.
