The Giants? They are not interested in a reunion with Baker. New head coach Joe Judge arrived this year and is trying to establish a culture. This incident, even though the charges against Baker were dismissed, does not sit well with the new regime. Also, Baker played poorly and at times displayed attitude issues as a rookie, although his performance improved late in the 2019 season. |

Once he started again in the last 3 games, he returned to his sucky ways. His QB Rating against was 107, 107 and 133. Against the Redskins he allowed 9 or 10 completions.
There you have it. I don't blame them. Not the attitude they were looking for and he showed little effort right after the incident...

Give the kid a shot. There is no down side. He does have talent. With good teaching coaches, he may be able to turn his life around. Sometimes kids do stupid stuff. I think this is just Schwartz's opinion anyway, some of these reporters think they are actually part of the organization.
+1000000 totally agree
He's not even close to game shape and fans would expectations would be exceedingly high.

There are, however, a few ways the Giants might be able to mitigate the dead money hit from Baker’s total guaranteed compensation of $9MM. The simplest involves possible offset language in his contract that could reduce the Giants’ obligations to Baker based on salary he receives In 2021 from a new team. (I don’t think this applies to 2022, since his year-four salary does appear to have been guaranteed.)
There are also possibilities of mitigating the hit from his contractual 2020 and 2021 salaries based on his having been suspended and those payments never being made - assuming he hasn’t gotten that money, and never will.
Note that OTC assumes the Giants are already off the hook for Baker’s 2020 and 2021 salary. Spotrac treats those two years of guaranteed salary as dead money. If OTC is right - and they probably are - the only dead money currently on the books reflects Baker’s signing bonus.
Lastly, the Giants could try to claw back up to three quarters of his $5.7MM signing bonus. I’m not sure what protection the standard rookie contract provides a team for a situation like this one. To get cap credit, I think the team has to show that the money was actually recovered, which might be challenging in Baker’s case.
