Interested in any viewpoints out there.
Watched a few re-runs and it "looks like" he was nullified on several Eagles' running plays.
Not sure.
ps
Great win! And if you want to have a laugh, go to the Eagles web site and watch the Head Coach press conference after the game. Everyone sounded stunned as if the Eagles have a natural right to win every game against the Giants! I don't believe the word "Giants" was mentioned even once. It was 100% about what the Eagles did wrong even though they were outplayed in all phases of the game.
Eagles OL did a nice job pulling and trapping.
I'm sure JJ and Martinez will gladly give up 5 or 6 Martinez tackles per game if the rest of the defense picks up the slack and they end up winning.
They had 2 DL for a lot of passing plays (end of game, long third downs), but most of the game they played with 3 DL:
Williams - 70% of snaps
Lawrence - 57%
Tomlinson - 54%
---------------------- those 3 were out there *most* of the game
Austin Johsnon - 25%
BJ Hill - 27%
And profootballreference has Sheard listed at DE and playing 28% (I think he's played mostly OLB with the Giants).
Now, they often had 5 DBs out there instead of 4 LBs, but they still played most downs with 3 DL.
Good thing Eagles didn't stick to a ground attack because their OL was doing an good job of getting the vaunted Giant DL moved out and hands on our LBs. Not sure Giants ever really stopped them from running effectively.
To Martinez's defense, Downs and Mayo are really bad. And you need the interior guys to work in concert with one another when you have slashing-type running attacks like Eagles. Those two are big problems on this Defense right now.

The Giants had 2 down linemen on the field most of the game and the Eagles could run the ball whenever they wanted. This time, Peyton Manning wasn't on the field to keep calling runs.

interesting, ill go back and rewatch tonight. it seemed to me the Eagles were running against 20 fronts. will report back.
Martinez is an ILB - one of two. Whatever the Eagles did, they did it. Whether it was a change to blocking responsibility or adding a player to go after him; run toward Mayo or Downs, or run at Martinez knowing that Mayo and Downs are easily handled.....

I recall some plays where Martinez committed to a gap or hole and got blocked up or the RB bounced past that area. In those cases you need the other ILB to do his job, but both Mayo or or Downs weren't in the picture quick enough.
Great semantics.....
We did, but big advantage we had playing with lead all game. Teams are going to take that Eagles tape to watch how to attack us in run game. In tighter game we may need to play more man exposing Yiadom.
