If someone wanted to fuck with us they could have signed Santoso if we didn't and we'd have to wait awhile for another player to come in and pass the covid protocols meaning we have no kicker for a decent amount of time. So, yes, he could have kicked for us on the PS but this protects against another team fucking with us.
Wieting entered the season with massive shoes to fill after the departures of Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson, and never approached the kind of receiving statistics posted by his predecessors (thirteen receptions for 185 yards for his career). Where Wieting did make a name for himself, however, was as a blocker, as he was an absolute asset for the Hawkeye in the running game. His strong receiving performance against Penn State (four catches for 54 yards) also left room for the possibility of yet-untapped potential for Wieting as a pass catcher.
IIRC, player salaries are paid in 17 installments, including the bye. Moving up to the roster this week should give Santoso an extra $25K or so. Petty cash for the Giants, but real money for a practice squad player.
RE: They had to sign a kicker to protect themselves
Maybe he can play LB
He was 17-21 for 80% in his senior year in college. Made all 32 XP.
I think even if he isn't they would sign a kicker for practice. Can't just stop practicing kicking situations the next week or two.

be exhibiting symptoms for them to act this early. Too bad, Gano is one of the biggest offensive weapons.

Santoso was on the practice squad so the Giants would have had him kicking in practice anyway.

+1 ... and it also creates an open slot on the PS for JJ to look at another player ... this is the kind of detail stuff he brings to the organization.
