Gilles Gratton. What a character!
Gilles Gratton: Goalie, sailor, Spanish count & other things - ( New Window )
Great find!

I was too young to understand the details, or maybe it just wasn't reported back then. I remember Davidson getting hurt and it looked like the Rangers backup was a homeless guy.

I certainly didn't know about his handstands in the shower (would not want to see that). Gilles Gratton was a great (quirky) sports personality
at Philly

I remember a game Gratton and the Rangers were facing the Flyers at The Spectrum . At the time the Flyers were among the best in the league , the Rangers , not so much .

In one particular segment , the Flyers kept the puck in the Rangers zone for what seemed like an eternity , had to be five minutes or so without a whistle , Gratton was getting peppered with shots from every direction and the Rangers simply could not get the puck out of their end .

Finally , Gratton took it upon himself to skate the puck out of the Rangers end , skated it to center ice and fired the puck into the Flyers end .

The Flyer players were so shocked , they didn't know what to make of it .

The Philly fans gave him a standing ovation .
