NFT: 'The Crown' on Netflix.

Wife got me into this show during the first season. At first, I didn't think I'd like it since I find the British royal family & all it's history/drama to be pointless drivel, but I actually found myself liking the show & acting. Anyways, we just started season 4-the introduction of Diana-& we're 5 episodes in & it's terrific, even though Charles comes off as insufferable & insecure man-child.

Anyone else watch this show?
Absolutely great show.

Has been from the start. The production values alone are worth the watch and it’s got great acting and writing to boot.
Yep....also a wife bing thing....we saw entire season

I spend half my Googling historical stories to compare.

Well done.

The Royals must love it🤣

+1

Some storylines grab me more than others, but overall it’s really well done.

Wasn’t sure if I’d like the transition to new cast for season 3 to show them at an older age, but Olivia Colman was really good, and Helena Bonham Carter was great as Margaret, as she is in everything

Haven’t started the new season yet, look forward to it.
My wife got me in to all those Royal Family period pieces
PatersonPlank : 11/17/2020 8:15 pm : link
Queen Elizabeth, The Tudors, War of the Roses, Mary Queen of Scots, The White Queen, The White Princess, The Spanish Princess, Victoria, Lady Jane.

If anyone wants to know anything (and I mean anything) about the the Brit Royal chain of command from lets say 1350 on just ask.

You'll like season 4. I think it's the best season yet. And the woman playing Diana looks just like the real Diana. She's great.
Great show...

Probably diving into the Lady Di season tonight. Lady Trueblueinpw loves it!
ya, Mrs S likes it over here too.
Del Shofner : 11/17/2020 9:38 pm : link
I don't mind it although I too find the royals pretty boring. But the production and acting make it worth watching (while I multitask on BBI...). And yes, the Lady Di actress is spot on.

And, it's actually somewhat entertaining...The writing is excellent, haven't started the new season, but we will tonight, probably.
The producers are catching criticism on season 4 for adding a few

unsubstantiated items relating to Charles and letters from his uncle about Camilla ...but overall we love the series. The items relating to Lyndon .johnson were hilarious.

I stopped watching after Season 2

Downton Abbey.

Any fans here?
Haven’t t watched it, but will based on comments here.

I had zero interest in anything to do with the modern Royal Family, but was always interested in the historical aspect of the
Monarchy. Then I visited England and found myself gaining a better understanding of the cultural significance of the continuity and tradition it represents today. If you haven’t seen it, watch The Coronation. It’s about Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. She talks about her recollections of the day and what an overwhelming pageant it all was. She’s quite a feisty, interesting woman and I respect her sense of duty and her sense of humor. She’s had her troubles, especially regarding Diana, but all in all, a dignified strong woman.
One of my favorite lines/scenes of the whole series
mfsd : 11/18/2020 8:43 am : link
was early on when Elizabeth discovered Churchill and others in the government’s scheme in the Suez plotted behind her back.

When trying to figure out how to address Churchill about it, her advisor said he’s rich, male, and British, which means there’s nothing he craves more than a lecture from nanny.

There have been rumors in the media that Queen Elizabeth watches the show, never confirmed, of course. Claire Foy had a couple funny comments about how afraid she was of what the Queen thought of her portrayal

sledgehammer of a show. As good as anything we've seen in years.
My favorite character is Princess Anne season 3. Stone cold.

I realize that everything I wrote above sounds like satire on a football blog in light of Poe's Law... but I stand by it.

Best scene was probably season 1 when the carolers visit the king on Christmas Eve and give him the paper crown to wear. Wife and I were a mess.
I like..

the historical parallels. The episode where Charles goes to Wales and learns to speak Welsh for a speech was fantastic. While they portray charles as that wimpy, man-child, it seems fairly accurate.

Have loved Olivia Colman in most things. For those that like Crime thrillers, binge watch "Broadchurch". You'll be muttering "Miller" in a British accent years later:)
Only through about 3/4...

of first season. Really enjoying it. I am also one who finds shows about royalty and upper crust British insufferable, but this is fascinating. Looking forward to watching the whole series.

Check out Wolf Hall if you haven't already - very strong cast and production.
Just my two cents.....

My wife and I have watched since the beginning. We haven't watched the end of season 3 or season 4 yet.

Two quick thoughts:

1) Neither one of us liked the switch to Olivia Colman in season 3. My thought is that she looks to old for a late 30's-early 40's queen. Though I admit I'm not sure when season 3 ended, I would have made the switch for season 4 perhaps.

2) Having said that, I've thought the 3rd episode of season 3 (the Aberfan, Wales mining disaster of 1966), was superb. I read a bit about that disaster, and it was really well done.

Broadchurch was a really good binge too. I love British shows

If anyone hasn’t watched Luther, it’s well worth it too. Idris Elba playing a modern day Sherlock Holmes type detective in London

Thanks I'll look this up. More Henry VIII craziness.

Definitely in my top 10 tv series of all time. Crown is not as good for me, but okay enough.
Thought Season 3 Was Amazing
jpennyva : 11/18/2020 3:49 pm : link
I have enjoyed it from the beginning and was apprehensive about the change in actors going into season 3 but season 3 blew both my husband and me away (same with a lot of you, my husband watched it because I was and wound up enjoying it much more than he expected). The acting was simply wonderful. We are only into two episodes of season 4. I've not read any plans for a season 5, though they surely have plenty of material. Has anyone else seen anything on its future?

My wife and I really enjoyed the actors from Season 1 and 2 moreso (Claire Foy and Matt Smith) but thought they were all good.

And Lithgow was very solid as well as Churchill.

What season is now running?

Excellent, thank you! I wonder if they will stay with the current actors or switch it up again. Didn't mention before but I also adore Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith is a hoot and it was so well written for her.

They are now into season 4. Gillian Anderson is Margaret Thatcher and is spot on so far, just as John Lithgow was excellent as Churchill.
Not sure if the actress who played Diana in season

Season 4 starts out in 1979, which makes Liz 53.

Does Colman look 53 to you?

Í Charles and Di got married in 1981 so that makes Liz 55. I don’t know how far season 4 went....

Does Colman look 55 to you?

By the way, Olivia Colman today is 46 years old.
