I was looking at my refrigerator tonight pondering the NFL.
(I have flat magnets on it showing the standings.)
The best teams in the NFC are the Giants, Packers, Cardinals and Rams.
The Giants are the only team in the conference who are trending upward. The rest are either holding steady or on a downward trend. Drew Brees breaking his ribs has pretty much made the Saints a “meh.” Even if he comes back in a few weeks, I just can’t see the Saints winning the conference. Seattle’s defense is horrific regardless of how good Wilson is and I just don’t see any NFC team that scares me. The Packers are the mountain to climb in order to get to the Super Bowl and we can beat them.
Yes. I said Super Bowl.
We have powerful lines on both sides of the ball. We have talent in the offensive skill positions and a terrific secondary. Bradbury is the best corner in the NFC. Peppers is a beast. Love is good. The linebackers are good. Hell, I think Yiadom is being coached up and playing really well.
And the team is getting better and better.
I’m not kidding. I think we are going to win out and enter the playoffs like a steamroller.
One bad loss could end this dream. But I don’t think that loss is coming. I think we’re winning out.
We’ll see.
'Blahblahblah."
As well thought out and written your response to my post is, it still leaves me with questions:
1) Does "Blahblahblah" mean that you have no interest in emotionally investing in the team this year and inherently reject any optimistic hope for them, or that you'd prefer another outcome for the team this season? If so, what should we Giant fans collectively be rooting for if not for an amazing run to the NFC Championship?
2) Do you think the teams sucks and it's hopeless to even dream of something memorable happen and anyone who does is "blah-minded"?
3) Do you actually root for the Giants?
Whatever. I said weeks ago that the team was about to go on a run and I stand by that.
So go watch Redzone and enjoy the blahs of non-investment to this team.
Right. I get it. Seeing clear improvement over the last 6 weeks and our well-coached, young talent rounding into form means I'm smoking crack. Ok, great.
Exactly what are the circumstance in which I can have an optimistic evaluation of the team that is not deemed delusional? Please let me know when it's ok. I'll follow your guidelines to the letter.
Oops. That's what crack does to you. :)
Can we beat a team with a winning record first? Or maybe how about just any team outside of the NFCE? Those don't seem like crazy criteria, do they?
Your premise was flawed from the moment you listed the Giants as one of the four best teams in the NFC in your OP. From that point on, it wasn't optimism, it was fiction.
Let's be honest though, you just wanted to tell us that you keep the NFL standings on your refrigerator in magnet form (although it doesn't sound like you actually list them in the proper order if you have the Giants atop the NFCE currently).
You’ve got to slow your roll though. Super Bowl? Let’s beat someone not in the NFCE. Then let’s beat a team with a winning record. Then we can reassess. I think you’re getting a little too far out in front, we still have lots of holes to plug.
I've been of the belief that the Giants could sneak into the Playoffs, but ultimately be capped by having no edge rush. But here they are, 7th in the NFL in sacks.
However, they have the look RIGHT NOW of one of those annoying, ugly duckling teams nobody wants to play. A team with a strong running game and a tough D.
Well said
We just kicked the Eagles ass. At no point did we lose control of that game.
I'm a huge Jones fan, if he is getting out of his sophomore slump he is a dangerous man.
Seriously, this team is devoid of sufficient talent to win the division, let alone the NFC. I hope they keep winning and improving. But they are missing play makers on offense and the defense is held together with baling wire and chewing gum.
FWIW, Fox Sports has the Giants up to 20th in their power rankings.

When the Giants win 2 games in row, they are going to the Super Bowl.
The swings on this board are ridiculous.
Maybe when Crowder and McKinney get on field that will shore up the pass coverage a bit more, and allow another second for rush to get home. Defense is gaining confidence and it has been a pleasure actually seeing them get off the field more on 3rd down.
Hope they use the bye week productively.
While I don't share the same optimism as the OP I do love reading it. Playoffs? Why the fuck not?
Best coach in the division and ascending young players. Don't turn the ball over and we will be in every single game.

I agree with you. What's the harm in having a bit of optimism even if it's sort of pie in the sky?
2020 has been miserable enough with so much shit, including the Giants play. So why not seek to have a bit of fun as we approach the end of 2020?

So true.
There is an army of people here who seem to be the defenders of the pessimistic state of mind we must obey or else we are tarred and feathered or called a "pollyanna" lol.
I can't see a deep playoff run at this point but I can see 7-9 or 8-8 and a division title. Why not?
Thank you for this!
However, as others have noted, we haven't beaten anyone outside of the NFCE.
On the flip side to the above, the Giants are a handful of plays from being 8-2, and should be 5-5 at the worst. They were a play or two away from beating CHI, LAR, PHI, DAL and TB with PHI and DAL being the should have been wins to be 5-5 right now.
Am I confident in them "making a run"? No, not really. Is it possible? Sure. They play their asses off each and every week, they're getting better, learning from their mistakes and have in all likelihood a great up and coming coach in Judge.
I'M IN
Hang in there guys, I’m sure the Giants will lose a bad one again soon, and you can go right back to starting a zillion ‘I told you so’ threads about how Gettleman sucks, Jones sucks, Mara sucks, etc etc
Like it or not, refs have cognitive biases too, and there is zero chance we get enough respect from the refs to win games against talented teams unless we dominate start to finish. This team isn’t talented enough yet to do that. Just as excited as Ralph though about the trajectory of this team.
If you got some monetary value from being right about the Giants sucking I'd get it. But unless that's happening what's the issue? Afraid to be let down?
Do it for Ralph C. Let's do this.
I understand optimism, but this list is laughable, bordering on insane. The Bucs are 7-3 and have already beaten the (3-7) Giants. The Seahawks are struggling, but they'll be favored against the Giants in a few weeks. The Saints, even without Drew Brees for a few weeks, are better.
The Giants are 3-7 for a reason. The Giants have zero wins outside the NFC East, which is the worst division in football.

Yes we know. And it’s kinda sad that a regular season win over the Eagles feels like winning a Super Bowl in a lot of ways. Sign of how bad this team has been for several years.
But it’s fun to enjoy it and be a little over the top with the optimism. I’m sure we’ll crash back to earth soon enough

I like to deal in reality. Optimism is one thing. Blithely asserting that a 3-7 team that hasn't beaten a team outside of its own rancid division is far beyond mere optimism. It's pure delusion.
2. OUr remaining schedule is tough, really tough! I hope you're right but I do not see us winning out.
3. The teams we beat are not good. Granted we should have won at least 2-3 other games we lost, maybe we win those close ones going forward.
I appreciate the thoughts and input AND hope you're right. But I do not see us in the NFCC game this year.
What’s worse is that some posters seem to equate being “optimistic” with being a good Giants fan and of course conversely they view any negative comments about the Giants, their players, coaches, front office and ownership (no matter how accurate the comments are) as evidence that those posters are bad Giants fans… and that they’re only happy when the Giants lose.
Absolute nonsense!
I’m very happy that the Giants won the last two weeks and I’m hopeful for the future. But I’m not going to sacrifice my objectivity just to earn admittance to BBI’s Most Delusional Giants Fans Club.

fans of the same team take issue with fans who want to think we will be good. Its something I'll never be able to understand.

Naah, it really isn't. Its called fandom and in our division stinks so we can definitely win it if we keep trending upward. I think the superbowl talk is a bit much (and hyperbole in part) but playoffs isn't.
If you only want to think well of the team when they are definitively good you have every right. But shitting on people and calling them delusional because they think better of a bad team than you do doesn't make any sense.
I don't know, let the guy live. If your bothered by it that's sad.
this is funny!
BUT, why not dream? Good for you Ralph C.
Personally I'm happy to just see continued progress for 2020 and be able to watch and enjoy the Giants on Sunday afternoons again.
I don't know, let the guy live. If your bothered by it that's sad.

Oh shut the fuck up already. You wanna go around white-knighting and acting like saying the 3-7 Giants are a top 4 team in the NFC as well as Super Bowl candidates than you're just as delusional. Clown.
