Can Brown

CMicks3110 : 11/18/2020 6:18 am
what's everyone's take on him? I watch him and he seems like a really good athlete, similar to Zo Carter, but much thinner. You think he has the frame to add substantial weight to be a force as a pass rusher? To me he looks almost like a wide receiver playing an edge rusher. He also seems to be a good special teams player.

A good player. Takes time.

He’s been very good on specials. Coaches slowly working him into some packages for rush and coverage backers. He needs work in the weight room. I expect him to have a bigger role next year. Not sure he’ll ever be a 3 down player but looks like he can make an impact as a rush/cover backer.

He and Coughlin have been

in on some third down plays and look extremely quick, but under powered. Brown looks to have some potential.
He has an interesting Body type

He offers something different given his size, athleticism and Wing span. Probably better on Passing downs then run clear run downs. Many draftniks thought he was a good value pick in round 6, it's to early to say, but what will be interesting is if his snap count down the stretch begins to increase. Right now he is mostly playing specials with limited snaps on Defense. It would be a good sign of his progress if he can get more to the 10-15 snap range vs 5 snap range which is where I think he is at now.

Interesting body type. I don’t think he’s really an edge. I think they are forcing him into a role as a situational pass rusher because frankly we have zero edge defenders who can rush the passer on obvious third downs. He has length just doesn’t have the lower body base to hold up. I thought he’s better suited as an ILB with his length it’s hard for QBs to throw over the top of him. In the run game not sure he can hold up. As far as specials he’s truly a stud. He has room to grow into different roles we’ll see. A very very intriguing prospect with clear AA.
I thought..

this was going to be about getting rid of him...
I think it was his positional coach
SLIM_ : 11/18/2020 7:46 am : link
or Graham said he has got $7M potential.

Will be interesting over the next couple of weeks especially after the bye to see if his role is expanded.

I could easily see him getting more snaps against Seahawks or Ravens as a spy to the QB.
Don’t think he’s ever going to be 250/260

And be a starting, every down edge. He’s a role player and could certainly be a contributor on D and ST. He’s got an unusual skill set and I’m looking forward to seeing how they use him.

"Cam" Brown? (;>

Pat had an SI article on him a week or so back where special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey refers to Cam as a $70M talent. So his coach is high on him.

and he's got the body type. He's long and lean, explosive. Seems too light to really impact right now, I'd like to see him next year with professional strength coaches.

That was exciting to read. Coaches rarely throw that around all Willy nilly, so unless he has a confidence problem it’s likely his real thoughts

+1

Body is fine. Strength can come in the offseason.

Can he set an edge and does he have an edge rusher's lean?

But he definitely needs a full season in the strength and conditioning program. It wouldn't surprise me if he shines in training camp next season and earns a starting spot on defense.

Agreed. The coaches are working him in on defense as a situational pass rusher. That and being on ST is probably his ceiling, which is fine for a sixth round pick. His body frame is too lean right now to play the run. He'd be washed out of a lot of plays.
