who is being targeted by teams within the range of that jump. Because without that, it doesn't really make sense to pull the trigger on that trade now.
trade but it seems like a bit of an overpay. To me, #38 has more value than moving up 4 spots in the 20s of any draft. You can find good players in the first 10 spots of the second round.
But yeah i think its more likely they needed the value of 23 for some other move.
Im ok moving up but i really dont want it to be for Toppin. I wasnt even loving the idea of taking him if he fell to 8. But 8 and 23 is only getting you up to what 5-6 in this draft? Id rather keep the picks unless we can move up for one of the top 3 (i know its not happening).
im going to trust this FO. So im guessing Rose has a reason for doing this now. Maybe UTA had another offer from a team, maybe this is part of another trade, maybe a team offered us the 40th pick for money and we figured we can easily replace 38, etc...
agree with everyone else that making this trade now seems premature unless they are planning to package those picks to move up. This is the kind of trade that would typically be done when teams are on the clock.

I wouldn't do it for Toppin, but I can see how the Knicks were willing to part with 38 since Mock Drafts seem to indicate that potentially a number of players we could be targetting are listed in the late 20's and since 2nd Rounders can be obtained for cash it was worth the deal.
Agreed. Very odd.
Yup, unless they are using 8 and 23 to move up, or using 23 for another player?
Yeah, but how do we know who will be available at 23? And how do we know that he won't be available at 27?
Weird trade
True. Could be that.
otherwise yeah why didn't they work out this trade in advance and pull the trigger if the guy they want is still there at 23.
Barf
I think this is likely.
Only thing that makes sense, since no one has any idea who will be available at 23.
I like him, but he doesn't really fit the Knicks.

Would love this.
Where do I sign?

Jesus. Do draft rights ever expire? Do we still have the rights to Ahmed Nivens?
If they take him I imagine Thibs would have signed off. So maybe he sees upside there?
There has been chatter that we might buy an extra second rounder, so we'll see.
Maybe we can see the long-awaited Lavar vs. MJ one-on-one
