a lot to unpack here frim Michael Silver
: 1) As @KimJonesSports
reported, the incident that led to the abrupt firing of Giants OL coach Marc Colombo did involve Colombo calling HC Joe Judge a very dirty name. However, tensions began weeks earlier after an incident on the practice field...

2) According to a witness, Judge corrected the technique of center Nick Gates during a practice several weeks ago, and Colombo disagreed with correction. Judge reacted angrily, and from that point on was frosty toward the OL coach. Ultimately, Judge brought in Dave DeGuglielmo...

3) The Giants' line had struggled early in the season, especially rookie LT Andrew Thomas, but things had begun to improve--and the unit has performed well during the team's current two-game winning streak. Colombo was popular with his players, and they were in a good zone...

4) Judge's decision to bring in DeGuglielmo to "help" Colombo flew in the face of that, and the offensive linemen were confused. Tensions escalated, and when Judge began ripping Thomas during a film session, Colombo stepped in to defend the LT... and ultimately swore at Judge...

5) Obviously, Judge is the head coach, and he is free to hire and fire whom he pleases. But his personality style has been off-putting to some. The former Patriots assistant, and some of those who came with him from New England, have exuded an alarming aura of haughtiness...

6) In making the case that the Patriots' system is supreme, Judge and some ex-New England have assistants have openly denigrated the abilities of Tom Brady--claiming he struggles when it comes to throwing deep, throwing outside the numbers and moving in the pocket...

7) To their credit, Judge and his assistants DO acknowledge that the six-time Super Bowl champion is intelligent. They've also claimed that the Giants' offensive personnel is equal to what they had in New England in past years...

8) Bottom line: Judge and his assistants have done some very good things lately, turning around a Giants team that looked hapless and injected it back into the division-title race (albeit in the NFL's worst division in recent memory)...

9) Yet the Colombo fiasco, and the way it played out over the past few weeks, remains an open sore. And as they finish out their bye week, many of the team's offensive linemen are unsure what the change will mean, and whether they'll have to relearn techniques on the fly, etc.
From what I can tell the players love Judge and are playing really hard for him.
As the immortal Gordon Gekko once said to Bud Fox
"You want a friend? Get a dog."
This reeks of bull crap...perhaps the timeline is correct and the initial technique correction are true, but this seems awfully contrived.
As it pertains to this team, there isn't a single guy on the roster that's been a part of anything good for the Giants. If Judge tells them to wear their helmets backwards, they should wear their helmets backwards. No one has grounds to question anything.

Yeah, exactly. I agree w/ Terps.
We all know Brady can't throw it deep nor can he sling it across the field anymore.
If Judge tells them to color eggs, the team better say its Easter Sunday.

I can see Judge doing that - absolutely.
He saw it in New England all the time. Apparently, BB was famous for taking Brady to the woodshed in film sessions to show that Brady wasn't anything special.
So it seems the apple didn't fall too far from the coaching tree...
I agree, but there are two sides to every story.
I can too.
And Garret was always a players coach.
Probably what Columbo's used to.
At the end of the day, regardless of profession, probably not a good idea to curse out your boss. Haha.
It's particularly highlighted this past week when they kept Jones more clean than normal and they ran the ball - THEY WON.
When your LT is rated the worst T in the sport & you're line overall is near the bottom...you better fix it... coaching/playing/whatever.
It’s looking more and more like Garrett will be gone too, it just isn’t a fit. It’s better to train coaches than retrain them clearly.
We all know Brady can't throw it deep nor can he sling it across the field anymore.
Not to go off an a tangent here, but I think Brady, by some measurements, is the best deep ball thrower in the NFL right now. He's thrown some dimes this year.
Now I agree he has lost some of the MPHs on the stuff outside the hashes. That looks very obvious to me.
He also definitely has the "Patriot way is supreme" attitude,if you don't pick up on that,I don't know what to tell you.

Ugh what? Players get ripped in film room all the time. Especially, if they are making the same mistakes over and over again.
A coach called out a player in a film session when he was playing like dog shit? Oh the humanity! Who will save the players feelings from getting hurt now that the white knight has been fired?

A lot of it is believable, what's unbelievable is that whoever leaked it thinks it makes them look good.
Could be Colombo, but it could be a number of people. We found about Thomas supposedly from a scout who was fired.
Guys like Judge are not gonna win popularity contests

What is the Thomas story? I don't recall that.

Something about it reeks of "Came from the Columbo Camp"

There's more to this than we've all heard I'm sure. A lot of this just came off as someone emotionally ranting.
FWIW Kim Jones had a tweet earlier in the week when this happened where she mentioned she was told before the season Columbo wouldn't work out, though she didn't elaborate why.

Again, BS. Why would you draft the guy and rip it?
One of the scouts who has been here for awhile, supposedly leaked what Judge said to Thomas after he was drafted. It wasn't typical of what is normally said in that situation. It was more like a drill sergeant speech
There's no Kim Jones scorned ex girlfriend gossip crap in it. Right from the horses mouth. If you're wondering why Columbo is gone let him tell you himself:

Was it the one about not making any predictions? If that's it, sounds like a mountain out of a molehill.
Me too, and don’t see a problem with it

I think you are referring to the story where he told him how to act. Stay humble and not make predictions. Might be over controlling, but I wouldn’t call it ripping.

We'll see how all this plays out and what effect it has, if any. But as someone said, this is not a good look for Judge and some rookie mistakes in the way this was all handled.
Nope, not if you want to keep your job. There are some people I work with who might get an earful from me if I won the lottery and didn't give a fuck anymore.

but the observations/criticisms of Brady's game aren't wrong. I thought that was common knowledge though...it's hardly some inside secret. And if you go back to the NYG-TB game, they clearly gave Brady a hard time because they knew his weaknesses.

Brady completed 70% of his passes for 279 yards and 2 td's. What exactly do you consider a "tough time."

You keep harping on this not being a good look yet the details of what happened are all over the place. Somehow you definitively know what happened even though no one else has?
Judge isn't infallible, i'm sure he'd be the first to admit when he makes mistakes. But until I see something definitive which we will likely never get, i'm going to chalk this up as Colombo not liking getting the boot.
Those guys actin' like they all that!
This is journalism? LOL, this is the most obvious case of, let me ask the guy who just got fired to tell me what happened and I'll go publish his rants as fact.
Especially good if its true that Judge was aiding that group and said group have improved since his involvement.
Why are people complaining about a head coach that holds his subordinates accountable?
There's no Kim Jones scorned ex girlfriend gossip crap in it. Right from the horses mouth. If you're wondering why Columbo is gone let him tell you himself:

“It’s different,” Colombo said last week. “In Dallas, you had a couple of Hall of Famers, a perennial Pro Bowler, that type of deal. It was just about getting those guys the right amount of reps in every practice so they were ready and confident going into a game. Here, it’s every little tiny detail. You don’t take anything for granted.”
100%. He had an easy ride in Dallas, and here he has to be a teacher to kids. The expectations are not the same. That is a problem. Or was.

That quote is very telling. The patriots way or bills way was also coughlins way. It is: 1. Get the basics right 2. Sweat the small stuff
You compete in the nfl on small margins most of the time. The smallest of details give you the edge you need to win and the smallest of details can break you.
