The Niners claimed McKinley off waivers earlier this week after he failed a physical in Cincinnati but then cut him Friday after he failed their physical as well.

McKinley was a first-round pick by the Falcons in 2016. He had 17 1/2 sacks, two passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 49 career games. He had one sack in four games this season.

If the guy can't pass a physical, he should be on the Falcons injured reserve and shouldn't have been cut.

I'm pretty sure his contract was guaranteed as a 1st round pick, so he will still get paid by Falcons.

You are right. I don't think his contract was guaranteed in the last year but since he played in game 1, it was guaranteed through the year. The one thing that I don't know about is if he would be due any money to rehab if he chose to pursue that path.

It could be a failed drug test...
