NFT: Knicks Trade

Big Blue Hokie : 11/22/2020 7:25 pm
Per Begley & Wojo confirmed.

Source confirms Jacob Evans has been acquired by Knicks via trade with Minnesota. ESPN reports Omari Spellman and a second round pick are also coming to New York in exchange for Ed Davis. Knicks have acquired 3 second-round picks in acquiring/trading Davis’ $5 million salary.

Berman also has no clue to me.
robbieballs2003 : 11/23/2020 8:20 pm : link
He wrote about the double draft as if it is a definite when it is not. Then he said after the trade of Ed Davis that we would be releasing both players we acquired even though the Knicks seem high on Spellman or whatever his name is. He was off on something else too recently.
If i am Thibs this is my rotation

Rivers/payton
Burkes/quickley
RJ/Bullock
Toppin/randle
Mitch/Noel

Starting unit ball in RJs hands let him create, he is surrounded by 3 guys who can shoot the 3 and a rim runner..

Bench unit has a scorer in Randle, a distributor in Payton, 2 shooters and a rim runner and protector..

Team should get out and run, a lot of pieces that like the open floor

Kay should not be allowed to talk about anything but baseball. Hayward at 4 years and that money was something Isiah Thomas would have done.

I’m the last guy to exhibit any sticker shock but I still can’t believe how how much Hayward got. And the length of the deal. It’s like Charlotte didn’t even keep tabs on this guy’s career the last few years.

Is they're pretty tight with the leaks. So I doubt any of these reporters really have a clue what they're up to. Basically until draft day nobody had a real beat on who they were really interested until Toppin started becoming a possibility. So all this talk about interest or no interest in trades for certain players is pure speculation IMHO.
Any interest in claiming Elie Okobo?

Worth noting last Knick to wear "1'' is Bobby Portis, who now has replenished the Milwaukee Bucks frontcourt. BP has zero playoff games under his belt.

That looks pretty good based on who we have. I wonder what happens with Frank, though, under that scenario. Still seems like a trade is needed, if possible.

bceagle05 : 11/23/2020 9:25 pm : link
pretty quickly, no pun intended.

Knox is screwed, too. All these guard acquisitions point to RJ at small forward, where he belongs. Toppin is obviously a PF, so Knox is already fighting for scraps.
Screwed?

I like this. Let the kids play. If we have any cream it will rise. The rest of them that can’t make it then see ya next year. I’m all for this but I’m relying on Leon to open up huge money and build that super team next year. ( yes I can dream).

Knox got the coach that made him a lottery pick it's time for him to step and get minutes.
We need to find out this year if he a can a player.
I think all the guys on 16's rotation above are going to get minutes
Del Shofner : 11/23/2020 11:34 pm : link
so if Frank and/or Knox are in, it's a rotation of > 10.

What's Thibs' track record on rotations? Does he ever go above 10?

Frank and knox have not earned anything, if you think Thibs is just goingntonlose on purpose like Fizdale did i got a bridge to sell you..

Thibs is not going to gice frank and knkx minutes just because they were lottery picks a few years ago..

Until frank can knockdowm the 3 he should not play..

The more i watch Quickley
nygiants16 : 11/24/2020 8:06 am : link

Frank's not a PG, IMO
Heisenberg : 11/24/2020 8:18 am : link
His ceiling is a 3 and D combo guard. And right now he doesn't have the 3. You see flashes of the offense here and there but if he doesn't make a leap this year, I think he never will. I would rather watch him than Payton but that's a low bar. You can't really say he's earned more minutes with his play. Maybe he will this year.

He says he's a PG. It will be interesting if somehow UK was holding him back in this regard with how they played him.

I am just not a believer in his intangibles. Just too low in terms motor, IQ, skills, awareness to effectively use the athletic gifts. I think this may be his last shot to stick in the league.

Just by being on the roster? I don't buy it.

If I told you a basketball player has been receiving professional (not high school, not college. Professional, paid-for leagues) coaching and training since the age of 15, you would expect that by age 22 he would be more than just a defender with an occasional ability to make a shot.

The guy is what he is, IMO. The argument that 'he's young' only makes sense if he hasn't seen a lot of coaching. He has though.

It makes sense from their perspective. Randle is the more valuable player and rather than having cap hits of $9M for each of the next 3 years, they have Randle's salary this year and then $4M next year (the guaranteed portion of his contract). Just not sure how much $14M in cap savings over two seasons is worth in assets?

Apparently the Knicks really wanted Vernon Carey. Wonder if the Hornets would give him up.
at this point id take just Batum....
Italianju : 11/24/2020 9:32 am : link
at least Randle would be off the roster.

Does seem like a solid fit. CHA has all their firsts, they also have some interesting young players like Bridges who maybe we can pry away. They were also the team who took Carey who we know the knicks liked. We could send them Randle and absorb the rest of his salary.

This could have some legs as long as Batum isnt officially stretched.
Wouldn't stun me if cokehead
Jon in NYC : 11/24/2020 9:34 am : link
Malik Monk was involved as well. Perry's apparently liked him for a while and he's a Kentucky guy.
Monk is awful....
Italianju : 11/24/2020 9:38 am : link
isnt even the shooter he was supposed to be.

Id have some interest in J. McDaniels as well. I mean honestly Batum, Carey, McDaneils for Randle seems like a no brainer for CHA. They dont have a lot of bigs so Randle is actually useful for them. But more importantly instead of paying Batum 9 mill a year for years they can just get one year of Randle (plus the guarantee).
...
Jon in NYC : 11/24/2020 9:38 am : link
Randle, Frank, Iggy for Batum, Monk, Carey, 2023 1st

Who says no?
i mean i have no interest in Monk...
Italianju : 11/24/2020 9:41 am : link
but its basically Frank for a 2023 first and Carey. Sure id do it if the 2023 first doesnt have like top 20 protections. Wouldnt have to be unprotected but id want only like a top 5 protection.
just curious...
Italianju : 11/24/2020 9:43 am : link
with the "official" moves we have made could we still absorb Batum outright? I know there was some talk about exceptions being used and all that but i cant do the cap math. Just thinking if we could get more from CHA to just take that 27 id rather do that (even though i want randle off this team).
We added a new coach

Boston Celtics G-League coach Darren Erman is finalizing a deal to join Tom Thibodeau’s staff with the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN. Erman coached the Maine Red Claws in 2019-2020 after four years as New Orleans’ associate head coach.

Not at this point. Even if you delay the timing so Payton goes into the room exception, they'd still have about 17 mil to spend, so we'd be 10 short.

read on the 2021 draft. Cunningham is going to be an absolute stud, but the talent in the top 5 is so much better than this year.

Also all of the guys in the top 5 should fit really well with the current roster.

It's a good year to be bad.

Lol.

It really is tough to see many teams that will be worse than the Knicks. Maybe the Pistons, maybe the Cavs, maybe the Bulls...anyone else?
Tank
31southst : 11/24/2020 11:26 am : link
Hopefully it finally pays off for us. I will say the new lotto obviously flattens the odds but it matters how bad we are for the floor of our pick. If we have the 3rd worst record vs. 6th worst, it would change our expected pick from 4/5 to 7/8, which could matter a lot in this draft.
OKC is tanking, too.
bceagle05 : 11/24/2020 11:30 am : link
But yeah, I'd expect a bottom five team. A top five draft pick is a different story.
I don't trust Minnesota either.

unless some of the
Enzo : 11/24/2020 12:04 pm : link
young guys take a big step forward, I think we're going to be the worst team in the league. Some of these other bad teams have established vet NBA starters. We basically have Randle.
This is a really bad team at this point
larryflower37 : 11/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
Knox,RJ,Frank would need to make a big jump.
Robinson need to stay out of foul trouble to stay on the floor for 30 minutes.
Toppin game needs to translate to the NBA.
Even if all these thing break right we might not win 30 games.
Also Thibs is famous for a shallow rotation and riding his starting 5.

If he wants to win we could see the vets they signed getting big minutes.
Would
DanMetroMan : 11/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
have preferred they waited and picked up someone like Bowman vs. adding BOTH Payton/Rivers. Bowman struggled from 3 as a rookie, but career 39% at BC. Big-time athlete.
Bowman was more of a volume guy at BC, though
Greg from LI : 11/24/2020 12:26 pm : link
He never shot that high a percentage even there. Granted, he played for a weak team and likely felt compelled to force shots at times.

I still don't know how Jim Christian keeps his job. The 2017 team had two NBA players in Bowman and Robinson and still went only 19-16 and got bounced in the first round of the NIT.
