I'm curious: how many are rooting for Jets to get Lawrence?

Milton : 11/23/2020 7:07 pm
I'm not one who roots against the Jets and I'd love to see them land Lawrence. Shades of Joe Namath out of Alabama. Not their personalities, but in terms of star power and hype. If it isn't the Giants that bring him to NYC, let it be the Jets.

That being said, I think they're more likely to win another game than the Jaguars and I think the Jags get first pick if the two teams finish tied. I could be wrong about that.
I hate the Jets

I hope they draft a fullback in the 1st round, like they did in 1987 with Roger Vick
Even if you don't root

against them, what would make you love to see the Jets get Lawrence?

I can see being indifferent, but IMO your affection seems to go beyond indifference toward some positive emotions.

My friend had a good idea.
robbieballs2003 : 11/23/2020 7:10 pm : link
He said the Jets should hire Joe Brady and draft Lawrence. Can't argue with that at all. I'm not a proponent of hiring guys because they are good play callers. But the Jets need to hit on their next QB and put him in the best chance to succeed. This is similar to Gase but also completely different. Gase had a bad track record but the Jets went there anyway. Brady has been amazing with Burrow, Bridgewater, and now Walker.
As long as he's not in our division or on the Pats

don't care.
I never hated them until Ryan showed up.

Now I F'ing hate them. I hope they go 0-16, Lawrence stays at Clemson, & Beningo cries for days. F that organization. I F'ing hate that we even share a F'ing stadium with them.

Same here. I never had a problem with them until Rex arrived. I hope they end up with the #2 pick and surprise everyone and take Trey Lance who goes on to be another bust.

There is no way the Jets are winning two games. They won’t win one.
I’d like to see the Jets get good
Metnut : 11/23/2020 7:20 pm : link
and I think Lawrence would help them accomplish that. I have a lot of friends who are Jet fans, and they are overdue to have a winner.
I hope he goes to any team in the AFC other than the Jets
The_Boss : 11/23/2020 7:20 pm : link
I could see a bunch of AFC Championship games between Lawrence and Mahomes’ Chiefs over the next decade-plus. I just don’t want that other team to be the Jets.
Rooting for the Jags to get Lawrence
Tom in NY : 11/23/2020 7:29 pm : link
That team needs a break....and it would be hilarious to see the Jets blow the #1 pick in the final 6 weeks.
Would be a nice parting gift for Gase & Darnold to give the Jets.

I have three good friends who are Jets fans and would like to see them happy. Plus I think it will be good for NYC and there's no way the Giants are landing him.
p.s.--I moved from NYC thirty years ago and it's possible that had I stayed in the city (where the rivalry is in your face) I might feel differently. I used to hate the Mets more than the Red Sox when I lived in the city, but now I root for them as my second favorite team. So maybe being away from the city has something to do with it or maybe I'm just more mature with age.
Let Jags get Lawrence

And the Jets draft another QB bust who fanofjets says is the greatest QB of all time.

Jaguars will win at least another game
UConn4523 : 11/23/2020 7:34 pm : link
they play the Browns, Vikings and Bears - they can win one of these especially if they get Minshew back.

If both teams have 1 loss I’m guessing the strength of schedule would favor the Jets but I haven’t looked that up.

future schedules, Cincy has to be a dark horse to land the #1 pick. With Burrow out, will they win another game? Would be interesting to see what Cincy would do at #1 with the news of Burrow's knee injury being worse than originally anticipated
I can see the point
Oscar : 11/23/2020 7:45 pm : link
Those of us who live in the NY Metro have spent a lifetime watching the fucking Jets on TV every Sunday, very often the only other game on. I wouldn’t mind if they were a little more watchable.

I think the bigger point is that I don’t want him in the division. It’s very unlikely now but I would much prefer facing Lawrence once every four years or in the Super Bowl to 2x a season.

Possibly I guess.

But it seems like your relationship with your friends is strange.

I, like a normal person, root against my friends sports happiness when it's not aligned with my sports happiness.

You root for your friends happiness no matter what, like a psychopath.

I have so many friends who are Jets fans and all I've heard for the last 4 or 5 weeks is the following takes

"We are in a better spot than the Giants. Trevor Lawrence> Daniel Jones"

"Jets are set up to have a dynasty..Lawrence, new coach, draft picks, cap space" etc

It's annoying to listen to these takes. The guy hasn't even declared yet and the Jets are far from a lock for the #1 pick with Jacksonville looking pretty awful. The Jets may have to go 0-16 to secure the top pick for Lawrence.
I hate the Jets

Haha agreed.

I don’t want to hate the jets but when they are good their fans are insufferable. Actually they are insufferable all the time but worse if they actually have a good team.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Lawrence here in the ny area but all in all I don’t really want to see jets win. They annoy me.

I always find it funny when a player is called a can’t miss savior. We’ll see I guess. Jets are so devoid of talent and they always seem to fuck things up. Some good runs here and there but it never lasts and they are in a brutal rut even by their standards.
No matter how many may be rooting for the Jets to get Lawrence...
Big Blue Blogger : 11/23/2020 8:54 pm : link

Personally, I wouldn’t mind. It might be interesting to watch his transition to the NFL.

Your friends are idiots. You'd think they'd learn their lesson from Darnold. Of course I guess you can say the same about this place with the miraculous top 5 draft pick is going to turn around a whole football team. 95 percent of the time that isn't the case, esepcially if you aren't drafting a QB.

The only way the Jets win a game is if they go into the last week 0-15 and the Jags are 1-14 and the Patriots are out of contention. Belichick might decide to throw the game to prevent the Jets from drafting Lawrence.

The Jets are like that annoying dweeb we all knew in High School that was always saying "look at me!" They have Little Brother Syndrome and hate when the Giants do well. Add to that the WFAN has a full day of Jets' fans as their hosts and it just gets old listening to their tales of glory "almost making the Super Bowl" in 2009 and '10.
They love to revel in their own misery, so why take it away from them?
Whether I like the Jets or not
Sonic Youth : 11/23/2020 11:30 pm : link
I do not want them getting Lawrence.

The odds are stacked against Lawrence being an all time great, but he has a better shot than almost any other rookie QB if you look at the odds pre-draft.

Rather they not get that type of talent. Didn't the Mets capture the city over the Yankees in the 80s? Yeah, no thanks - not tempting fate.

A Mahomes/P. Manning-esque player on the Jets is something I'd prefer to not have. But better out of the conference and especially out of the division.

One positive of the Jets taking Lawrence is that the other NFC East teams didn't get him.

I agree. I like the Jets. But they are just like the Knicks and Mets bad ownership, bad coaching staffs and bad decisions.

Gase needs to go now. He ruins careers. I would like them to get better.
who knows if the Patriots are going to rebound
fkap : 11/24/2020 8:08 am : link
but if their dynasty is over, it would be par for the course to have the AFC east have decent teams when the Pats don't, instead of 3 bad teams and a yearly easy trip to the playoffs for NE.

However, even if they do land Lawrence, they still need to build up the rest of the team and coaching staff.
I hate the Jets... but I'm tired of them sucking...
x meadowlander : 11/24/2020 8:13 am : link
...tired of the Giants sucking, the Cowboys sucking, the NFC East sucking.

I long for the 80's, when ALL of the above were playing well and the games against them were EPIC battles, the wins and losses having so much more meaning.

Yes, I hope the Jets and NFC East teams get their shit together, and I hope the Giants are better than all of them.

not close in fandom but I want them to be successful. I will also say getting Lawrence really doesn't mean anything. They have to get the right coach, the right support and he has to pan out. But it would make it more interesting around here.
I have no issue with Jets getting First Pick/Lawrence
ZogZerg : 11/24/2020 8:46 am : link
That will mean, of course, that they go 0-16, which is absolutely PATHETIC for a team in year 3 of a rebuild with their "Franchise" QB!

It would be more likely for them to get Peyton'd - where Lawrence would just go back to school. Which is literally what Peyton did to the Jets in 1997 when they had the #1 overall pick.

I was surrounded by Eagle and Jets fans and the Giants were REALLY bad. They gave me so much shit on bus, in school and in the neighborhood that I hate those snot colored uniforms more than any in the NFL. I always will. I was really pissed when the Eagles finally won a superbowl because I loved telling them the fans of those teams they have not won shit in my lifetimes.

Still much less than us so....still good.
