Should Gettleman Win GM of the year?

Gettledogman : 11/27/2020 9:05 am
He wont bc record but if you look at what hes done this year its pretty freaking impressive. Mike Mayock will probably win media fav and with the job he did w Raiders.

Free Agents Signed
Lenny Williams DT
James Bradberry CB
Blake Martinez LB
Kyle Fackrell LB
Levine Toilio TE

Lets look at the draft -rebuilt the OL and added good pieces
Andrew Thomas OL
Matt Peart OL
Shane Lemieux OL
Xavier Mckinney S
Darney Holmes CB
Carter Coughlin LB
Cam Brown LB
Tae Crowder LB

This is the most improved team in the league. Its time to recognize what the Gettledog is doing.

We have the Coach, QB, and are stronger on both lines. Need to add a few more players =this will be a very tough team to beat.

Giants are unlikely to finish with a winning record in a division where everyone will likely be under .500. The Raiders are doing far better and this is not just media love. Chris Ballard in Indy also deserves credit plucking Rivers off the scrap heap and leading AFC South. I am sure Pittsburgh GM will get a lot of praise as they will likely end the year with the best regular season record.

Kevin Colbert is one of the top GMs and I love what Ballard is doing with Colts. Mayock should win tho.

But absolutely not.

I also think that as a GM he is good about getting input from his coaches--this was a big fail with the past coaches and I believe we are seeing positive input from our current coaches.

He decided we needed to completely turnover our entire roster, however, when doing that you have to hit on 75% of your replacements in my opinion. Otherwise, you end up with a replacement team that is different but not necessarily good. I think when he started and in part trying to help win while rebuilding, he was under 50% hit. this led to coaching changes and the need to really start the rebuild. I think we are now seeing us hit closer to the 75% or more and part of that is the coaches doing a great job.

So, I like him and do not think the world is falling if he stays another year, but no way GM of the year candidate.

I do agree this is his best year so far, but part of 7 new starters is making up for not having starters in place from his previous misses. The need to have to get 7 starters would have not been needed with better prior seasons. Also, part of the need for these new players was the wants of a new coaching staff.

Mike from Ohio : 11/27/2020 10:04 am : link
Giants fans are typically smarter fans than fans of other teams.

The Giants are 3-7 and haven’t beaten a team with a winning record. They have been one of the worst 10 teams in the league three years running. But here is a discussion about an award for the GM.

If DG is the GM of the year for building such a good roster, then Joe Judge should be fired yesterday for not being able to win with such an impressive roster.

They were good pickups and Giants should get some credit for that. But its not like either was on their radar until Rosas was arrested and several guys in the secondary became worthless. Partial credit works.

No the Dolphins have added far more talent. They were the least talented team in football last season after trading away almost every good player they had. The Ereck Flowers signing was the only poor decision they made this offseason.

But if you look at objectively what's happened, come hell or high water the ship looks to have righted.

*Barkley

*Jones at QB who looks to be calming down IMO

*A young 5-man OL in place that fans seem excited about

*A very good, young Defense in the making

*Outstanding special teams. IMO the Giants win the special teams battle every week.

-----------

You may not give him credit for all of this, but it's hard to paint a picture where he deserves to get fired. This looks like a very good team heading into 2021. Why get rid of the GM in that scenario? Seems like all his draft picks are "harvesting" just in time.

If the goal is to seek awards for a team that is 3-7, the legitimate candidates are Judge and Graham.

Judge for HCOTY and Graham for ACOTY.

They are demonstrating they be able to make chicken salad.

I can only imagine the potential upside of this organization if Judge could chose his own players.

The record will get better now that the team is getting better -still far from where it needs to go but without a doubt it has turned and fast heading in the right direction. This offseason was a big reason why.

Compared to his first couple, Gettleman has had

a pretty decent offseason.

Though bringing it to reality, if this team makes it to the playoffs with this bad roster, the only guy getting an award should be Joe Judge. And everybody in the front office, including Gettleman, should thank Judge if they keep their jobs another season.

You should be impressed with the coaching staff.

And just leave your desire to be impressed right there. Don't expand it to include DG, Mara, Tisch, Abrams...whomever in the front office.

The competitiveness of this team is a blend of Judge and his staff; and the worst division in the history of the sport. Nothing more.

Mike from Ohio : 11/27/2020 11:56 am : link
Two teams, each with only three wins themselves. And people are talking about how solid this team is? This isn’t a rationale point of view any more than the “cut and fire everyone” threads after every loss.

I think this board needs a GH category for threads - Giants Hyperbole. Then folks can start threads like “are the Giants the best team in the league?” or “Will we ever draft outside the top 3 again?”

Finding a rationale Giant fan these days is like looking for a leprechaun riding a unicorn.
