Anyone have advice for getting an iwatch for a 12 year old? Want to be able to have him get in touch with us around the neighborhood - have an old phone to pair with it. Any deals out there? Which models should I look at?
Without needing the phone on your person? That’s kind of what we’re looking for
If you pair it to a phone it can text, but to text on its own you would need the one with cell service capability. I believe that one is $100 more and then you have the monthly cell service fee with your provider. For Verizon that fee is $10 per month.
Only my wife has her apple watch with cell service, my other kids only have them paired through their phones.
If you feel they need an Apple Watch for a child, get the 3. I have a 3 and am looking to upgrade to the 6. The 3 is a a very good fitness watch. The 6 or the 5 also has health related features that a senior would want like like help if one should fall and other health features. I saw that Walmart has the 3 for $119.
my 13 year old. My wife said Target has series 3 for $119.
I might get this one if the series 6 (latest model) doesn't have anything that a 13-year old has to have. link - ( New Window )
Apple no longer sells the Series 3 with cellular and I suspect neither does Target. Also, Apple is probably going to obsolete the Series 3 next year, i.e. it won't be able to be upgraded beyond watchOS 7. The Apple Watch SE might be a better choice. Its cheaper than the 6, has every thing a kid would need and it will be supported for as long as the 6

Hey, I want to get this for my ten year old for his birthday, but he does not have a phone yet. I don't want him to have a phone and I don't want him connected to my phone or my wife' phone (he is a pain and will start answering calls and texting) is there a way I can buy this watch and not have it hooked up to either of our phones?

Yes, I believe you can do that.
probably. They do make limited use phones for kids, maybe just for this purpose.
