Didn’t he turn down the chance to interview with the Giants? Or let it b3 known he wasn’t interested, or something like that? I sort of remember Mara was interested in him. Am I off on this?

Apparently the Giants wanted him over Shurmur, but Patricia opted for Detroit
RE: Can easily see him joining BB or Joe Judge anyday
Would be shocked if hes not coaching somewhere in a few weeks.
Few weeks? I'd be VERY surprised if he's coaching somewhere in a few weeks. I cannot remember one time where a HC got fired and latched on with another team before the end of that season.
The Lions have won more games with Bob Quinn as GM than the Giants have with Dave Gettleman as GM. Quinn is a Patriots guy as well. Could see Joe Judge being interested in both guys.

NY guy. Former LBs coach as well which is something to keep in mind with Bielema.
And Safeties coach, which we don't have (Jerome Henderson is the DB coach). But that would obviously be a mighty step down, from HC to position coach. Happened with Kitchens, but yeah.

McDaniels was let go by the Rams and latched on with NE for the 2011 playoff run.

Josh McDaniels was fired a few years ago and joined the Patriots mid season to become their OC again.
His deal is up after 2021 Michigan, and his time there appears to be up. If he takes the Detroit job he stays in state, doesn’t have to move his family, and will probably be given a lot of control with the roster.

I know Harbaugh has done well in the NFL, but he's been a tire fire at UM

He has turned Michigan into an after thought in the Big Ten. Is he still an attractive candidate?

There's a good chance Harbaugh is gone from Ann Arbor after this season.
Quinn was bought in with Caldwell. Caldwell goes 9-7 his first year and Quinn fires him to bring in his buddy Patricia. He hitched his wagon to Patricia and it failed.
Would be shocked if hes not coaching somewhere in a few weeks.

Hue Jackson also. Browns fired him and he joined Marvin Lewis’ staff almost immediately.
The Lions have won more games with Bob Quinn as GM than the Giants have with Dave Gettleman as GM. Quinn is a Patriots guy as well. Could see Joe Judge being interested in both guys.
So Judge gets to pick his GM now? That’s a mighty fast trip to the top. The way down is typically even faster.
Like Judge so far but I’d cool it with treating him like the new messiah. It’s in his best interest too.

This isn’t rare, it’s the new NFL. And why shouldn’t Judge get to “pick” the new GM? It’s still Maras call but why hire someone he isn’t comfortable working with?
The old model is hiring the GM and HC the same year then give them what, 3-4 years to right this ship? If we move on from DG and hire a new GM it’s reasonable to expect the new GM to be tied to Judges tenure, whether it’s good or bad.
I don’t see the issue at all.
This became inevitable, but it’s remarkable how bad
his Detroit tenure turned out. He was all but anointed the next Bill Walsh level genius when he was hired. How many articles were written about how smart he is before he coached a game?
Goes to show, no matter how much they pour into the process, teams still can’t automatically crack the code when it comes to hiring

If Judge continues to show a pulse with this roster, you can't fire Gettleman. Now if Gettleman retires on his own accord that's a separate issue.
If he jilted us once, Mara may not have forgotten.
Tom Coughlin jilted the Giants after the 1992 season. How did that turn out?
Think you're taking a bit of a liberty sir.
From Wikipedia:
"After the 1990 season, Coughlin returned to Boston College to take on his second job as a head coach."
I don't think that's the same thing as turning down an interview for the HC position of the NY Giants. Coughlin was the WR coach for the Giants previous to 1991. It's well established that NFL organizations allow assistant coaches to seek better opportunities when they arise. No one including Mara would have thought of that as being jilted.

You've got it wrong Pete.
TC was the Giants first choice for HC for 1993 NOT 1990.
Would be shocked if he's not coaching somewhere in a few weeks.
Shocked? That's putting it rather strongly with only five weeks left of the regular season and teams fully staffed. I'm sure he'll be with a team next year but is there really a point to bringing him onboard this late in the year? As a consultant? He's Matt Patricia not Bill Belichick.
Patricia is a guy who could be the defensive coordinator for a team in your division next year (i.e., Cowboys if you're Joe Judge, Jets if you're Bill Belichick). Do you really want to give him a bird's eye view of your roster and playbook without knowing where he will be next year?

Ok, I'll accept the blasting I deserve. Apologies to FStubs and my thanks for setting me straight. I was a fan back then (and for many years before) so am surprised my memory isn't better on this.
I wonder how bad of a hit Patricia's reputation took...
Good call and it’s very possible. I give graham one more season as the DC before he gets a head coaching gig. Patricia I believe is one and done as a HC.
