the running that is the issue, the issue is can he drive the ball with a bum right hamstring.
I think he's asking if he can't incorporate the run game that we have seen, if he's going to be immobile and just a pure pocket passer (with the drive), can he win.......think Phil Simms.
In the sense that it encourages the coaches to use him in planned runs. That will and has lead to injuries as we have seen with him and many others. His athleticism should be channeled to buying time to throw not running for yardage.

This season...with the surrounding talent, I have to disagree.
It should be incorporated and has actually helped win one game (Philly) and should have contributed to another (1st Philly game).
Running DJ was a necessity in 2020.
Can we beat Seattle with DJ on a bad wheel? Probably not

Completely agree and as others have pointed out...Once all these running QBs get older they will need to learn to throw the rock.
Even when they aren't older defenses are learning to mitigate them. Look at Lamar Jackson. Nowhere near effective as he was last year. Now....teams forcing him to throw it and his weaknesses are showing
next 4 weeks I’ll be surprised. This will be the second year in a row he only plays 12 games. That’s a problem.
As much of a problem as already having him out for the next 4 games??
This is a problem? Dude is tough as nails it seems to me......add "injury prone" to the list of BBI complaints of DJ LOL
DJ is on the injury prone side. He's tough as dirt, so he doesn't miss as many games as he should though. He's had injuries going all the way back to HS.
I don't think him being a pocket passer only is as much a DJ problem for offense, as a we don't have the weapons to have a pocket only passer. The defense and specials are going to have to play out of their minds.

The problem is your memory. Last year he was not a starter for games 1 & 2, so he did not "miss" them. Then he sat for two weeks with a "bad ankle" that was clearly designed to give Eli one more home start. Pay attention.
Have the Giants seen enough of him to believe he will be a franchise QB? He has played better the last few games but needed to continue to grow the rest of this season.
that he's actually using his hamstring, how is this injury a result of his running ability?
He'll be prone to more soft tissue stuff...that's kind of the result of being athletic. However, I don't think there's an outsized risk of him getting injured from contact past the line of scrimmage in today's NFL. These guys are protected to a fault.
RE: It’s not the scrambling that I am concerned about
Running the ball has to be a part of his game going forward.
The issue is he isn't backed up by two athletic quarterbacks that can do similar things he can. It's a major oversight, considering college football produces lots of athletic quarterbacks. At the last scouting combine there were 5 QBs drafted in the 2nd round or later (or not drafted at all) that ran faster 40s than Jones did at his combine.
Improving at backup QB has to be a priority this offseason. It would be a shame to miss the playoffs this year because we couldn't do better than Colt McCoy at backup.
We need Jones back at near full strength versus the Browns. I think the Browns game is likely the key game in getting to 6 - 10 and probably win it the division.

Lean into his strengths instead of trying to turn him into something he isn't. Plan for the worst with a backup that has his skillset.
Today's NFL is built to protect the QB and offenses. Run with him if he's mobile, there's an increased chance he'll draw a roughing penalty. Throw deep more, there's an increased chance you will draw a spot foul penalty.

I don't know if you are serious.
NFL players get injured. It would be great if every succeeding NYG was an Iron Man like Eli, but he was an exception. Look around the league to see the number of young mobile QBs knocked out of the lineup the last few years (Watkins, Prescott, Burrows, et al)
And you can hardly count the 3 FULL games Eli played as a knock on rookie DJ who then missed 2 games with an ankle injury.
That is hardly a problem; only a reason to make sure you have a backup QB who can manage a game.

Agreed.
The defense has to account for a DJ run, as contrasted with Eli at QB. That impacts their D formations/game plan.
When Saquon returns next year backed up by Gallman, DJ can run fewer times, but the threat is still there.
The caveat is that JJ has to give Wayne enough carries to keep him up to game speed; you don't lose much at the line of scrimmage - he just is not able to run away from defenders after reaching the second level. (He led all collegiate backs in Yards after Contact but they eventually would run him down.)
is super debilitating... cant get any torque on his throws. That being said hes going to get a-lot of treatment and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in two weeks if not next week. Thats one of the benefits of having a young QB; their bodies tend to heal quicker than the older guys.
With an injured hamstring, he won't be able to properly drop back, slide in the pocket, and most importantly, drive off his right leg to throw. It needs to heal. That is the bottom line.
but he seems like he was slinging it just fine today before he got injured without a ton of running. I think he had 19 yards today on 6 runs. Admittedly, it changes with me from week to week, but I am back to feeling comfortable with him again. His only real bad game over the last 5 was the TB game.

Might make sense to have a backup with similar qualities rather than Colt McCoy. He's looked better in the past, hopefully he can pick up his game.

They will need tape his hamstring tight....
The only saving grace....were we winning against Seattle?
Now we need him to have a chance against Arizona or Cleveland!!!
