upfront. Well we should have been, the Bengals lines suck. The problem was, we weren't good a lot of other places, at least offensively and special teams. Defense with another solid effort, but that Bengals offense has no QB and no running game. Not much to judge there. Yiadom was a pleasant surprise though lately.
With what he says about the quick hitting plays being the most risky and turnover prone. All those curl and slant routes at 5 yards are getting jumped... The improved interior OL play and the OT pushing the edge rushers wide lets Jones was step up in the pocket and throw deeper. Sucks he got hurt cause the last few games really show what the O can do. Still need some talent at wr etc... and learn to get the ball in the end zone, but really the Giants dominated the first half yesterday, should have had 21+ points by half.

Was also excited about Jones. And "we should be good upfront" is a weird take for a fan of a team that's had the worst O-line in the league for 3 years straight. I'll take anything I can get.
We desperately need a red zone/big physical WR or TE.
Right now our only red zone offense is the threat of DJ running and our run game when we get it going. I like Slayton, but it’s clear he’s a solid number 2 type as well. Gotta make that play yesterday. Totally different ball game he catches that and scores.

Jones was great until he got hurt, he needs help though. That much was obvious. While his hamstring injury is brutal for our chances moving forward, it actually may be good for his development to learn to win from pocket. Expect it to be pretty ugly too considering our WRs.

I'll repeat something I said yesterday -- Daniel Jones has to quicken his stroke on these short passes. There's still too much damn wind-up to get the ball 7 yards across the LOS!!!

Oh yea, for sure. He's got that little bit of hesitation or he burps the baby a few times. I'll agree with you 100% on that.
interesting comments on Garrett's infatuation with the quick slants,
how high risk/low reward they are AND how Jones rightly doesn't trust those plays. Definite fodder for the Dump Garrett movement. Put your players in the best position to succeed. DJ clearly more comfortable in vertical passing game.
thanks for posting this BF. These reports are great.

No problem it was a nice change of pace from the O-line reports that get too technical for me.
He summed it up perfectly. High risk/low reward passes. The Giants had 5 or 6 of them yesterday where he is jamming the ball between 3 defenders for a small gain.
I know there are lots of opinions on this but IMO he called a poor game overall. You can't go 3 yards at a time in the NFL. You've got to attack. Garrett was not thought of as a good play caller in DAL and I can see why.
and some owner is dumb enough to hire Garrett because until one does Giant fans are stuck with him. The Mara bros hired him and they're the only ones that can fire him.

Vertical passing game? We don't have the personnel for that. And our one guy dropped a sure thing TD. We need to pick and choose our shots there to get it open. This offense desperately needs another outside WR threat, hopefully one that can double as red zone guy, so TE becomes less of a need.

He specifically said it didn't have to be long shots. He cited 1 that was 6-7 yards up the middle, and the receiver added 5 after the catch. those 3-4 yd slants suck. They're covered like a wet blanket and are an invitation for a pick 6.

Running verticle routes doesn't mean always throwing it down field. The verticle routes stretches the defense allowing the underneath stuff to open up.
When everyone runs 7 yard curls the defense sits on it.
The oline is protecting much better. Need to run some guys down the field. Or better yet, use the D's aggressivnes against them. Run a double move.
turn the jets on when he cleared the CB, he was at maybe 80%. Then he tried to catch up and was about 1/4 step short of the ball...that was such a great pass - Jones really laid it up and out for him to run underneath it.
I'd rather the team set up the deep shot to Slayton
