We all have our misses. For me, it's Cade McNown. I saw him a ton at UCLA & thought he'd be a no doubt about it NFL superstar. Boy was I wrong...
I thought JaMarcus Russell wouldn't translate to the pros & wasn't surprised he was a total bust. I was on the fence about Leaf; the character concerns were hard to ignore even at the time.
Who did you whiff on?
So, going back - Tim Couch.I thought the guy was the next superstar. But it just didn't happen because of injuries - and Cleveland.
I don't know the exact timetable, based on a quick search it seems like Rose was already hurt a few months before RG3 played a regular season snap. But this was before all the countless setbacks Rose faced so there was still a ton of hope he would bounce back to his previous MVP level. And RG3 was also heavily hyped before putting on an NFL jersey. But I definitely remember Derrick Rose and RG3 being everywhere in terms of marketing, they were both being pushed so hard.

Off the top of my head
You can’t see inside someone’s head and heart watching games on TV.
Overall that entire class other then Jackson has been very disappointing
You are forgetting Josh Allen in Buffalo.
Oh and Tim Tebow
I watched CJ Leak play his entire HS career. Thought he was a can't miss NFL prospect. I don't think he was ever on a NFL roster, although I could be wrong.
I'm not picking QBs for anyone, thank G-d.
They Jets have done nothing to help him. The Colts with that OL are a perfect spot for him
Tim Couch and David Carr were guys who could play and got the shit beat out of them. Jets are letting Darnold take a beating while seemingly ready to move on
Marcus Mariota
Vince Young
Are you sure you aren't mixing up years and thinking of the LB/Edge I'm pretty sure DG mentioned him post draft...
As for the QB Josh Allen, that was the miss right now. He's having a break out season and is a real dual-threat NFL QB with a generational arm.
I didn't know that he was a world class jack@ss off the field....which led to him playing for many teams before his act wore thin.
Always threw a great ball though.
Did you watch any of his rookie year?
I caught a few games and I swear Rosen made some tremendous throws. Unfortunately it was a perfect storm the wrong way - limited weapons, laughable protection, and Rosen's lack of athleticism...
It'll be interesting to see what Brady chooses after the season. Does he call it a career or give it one more year? If he calls it a career, will Arians sign Rosen to be his starter (or with a clear shot at the starting gig)?
I thought Brett Hundley with the right coaching would be good. I thought Jim Mora Jr stunted his growth at UCLA but that someone in the NFL would get a lot out of him.
What I liked about Rosen in the draft was his courage in the pocket and his picture perfect mechanics. That hasn't changed I don't think, so why assume he can't rebound under the right circumstances?
Off the top of my head...
Rick Mirer
Matt Leinert
Brady Quinn
David Carr
Good list.
Carr's whole career was derailed after that first season. He played well but got the shit kicked out of him. He was sacked something like 70 times that year. He took a serious beating and played with the football equivalent of PTSD for the rest of his career.

I want to say it was around Year 3 when Carr finally had an OL and you saw what type of QB he could have been. Carr is a warning to teams that you can't take a franchise QB if you don't have any OL in place.
You REALLY don't want me picking your next all star QB.

Exactly. He was a definitely a victim of circumstances. Horrible circumstances.

That's still the best college football game and performance I've seen to this day, just a pure classic down to the legendary Keith Jackson announcing the game. Those 2 Rose Bowl performances are why Vince Young is my go to answer on "best college football player you've ever seen" threads.
I was really rooting for him because of all that. But at the same time, his Uncle Rico throwing motion and his infamous Wonderlic score were major red flags. My heart said he'd overcome it but my brain said he'd have a tough time succeeding in the NFL.
DG never said that.
The only post-2018 draft public comment from an NYG insider re the QBs was Chris Mara's remark in a radio interview with Mike Russo that: "We liked the QBs but we all had a different preference as to which one. We all agreed on Barkley."
Nothing further ever came out about who liked which QB.
My hunch, only a hunch, is that DG would have gone for Mayfield.

He was the first guy I thought of too ... but the names mentioned by others should remind us that there’s no sure thing, and many with all the hype just flame out.
Marcus Mariota
Vince Young
He was the likely MVP in 2017. So the talent and the production have been evident.
But right now he looks shot, has the yips...Looks lost with less confidence, less arm, less decision making, etc.
