Baldy on Giants OL (this is good)

Giants in 12 weeks have developed a real; functioning; protective Offensive Line. It's truly an amazing transformation and a credit to Judge and his Staff. Here are a smattering of 10/80 snaps

Giants OL

Quote:
Niko Lalos from Hawaii on his 2nd NFL snap makes a diving catch/INT on sheer effort. Helped to change the game; set up by the other “ROOK” Darnay Holmes. When the rookie class starts showing up the team is feeling their “juice”

After 7-8 of garbage offensive line play, we are looking promising
Never would think gates would develop so welll ( and we signed him to 2 yr extension already)
Thomas looks like he is getting his bearing. Shane L does some good things. W Hernandez also. Ready for peart to uproot Fleming soon. Ziegler rebounding
Young. Signed for awhile. Give this team a legit WR or two and saquon plus hopefully the good DJ and I am excited.
Looks like giant football

Why are you saying the good DJ? See what happens when a line blocks? Ask Carson Wentz. With decent OL play you see a very good young QB emerging.

He just needs better Receivers at this point. Tate is washed , Shepard cant break a tackle but hes a good possesion reciever, and Slayton is a good number 3 but he is too inconsistent. Engram as TE is just a maddening player as we all know and the cause of many many Turnovers.

Give Jones 2 quality WR along with Slayton , Shepard and Barkley back and this offense is ready to take off

how that after 4 seasons and two coaches that a new coach who has been an HC for 11 games has seemingly fixed the o line

The roster
darren in pdx : 11/30/2020 10:59 pm : link
still lacks talent, but the improvement in coaching is so apparent. It's incredible to see an actual functioning o-line for the first time since 2013. Also, don't want to jinx it, but as of right now it's looking like they may have potentially gotten 3 starters on the o-line in one draft when/if Peart takes over for Fleming.

4 seasons? Giants have had a below average line since 2011 save for that run at the end of the year.

Now in defense there appears to be a significant talent upgrade that occurred this year.
Was Columbo trying to teach Andrew Thomas a new technique??
Rick in Dallas : 12/1/2020 8:49 am : link
This last month AT has been very impressive.
Did Judge step in on AT's technique?? I know their has been alot of discussion from AT's OL coach at Georgia.
I would not cut Zeitler and I would ask Solder to take a huge pay cut.

I’m sure you heard...Judge personally got involved with the OL to assist Colombo. He then recommended DD to come on to assist Colombo. Colombo got his panties in a wad....out he goes. DD has now inherited a young talented line and will make them better.

One thing I had been doing the last couple years is looking at other teams' lines. I firmly believe that coaching and technique were the reason(some of it) for the Giants bad line play. Other teams have nobodies on their olines and were competent. Really only the Cowboys, and for a bit the Eagles, had "All Pro" lines. The rest were just competent. The Packers were terrible.
I think better coaching got the Giants to this position and that Gates was a big upgrade.
IMHO

IMHO, anyway.

So, the fired guy (you know, the one who actually played the position for 10 years in the NFL) who had them for camp and 10 weeks of the season gets no credit? Check. Keep swallowing the company propaganda.

Even Ex-giant's lineman that were deemed "garbage" seem to be serviceable when they end up starting on other teams' O-lines. So I think coaching and technique definitely come into play, and its not all just individual talent.

This is going to sound weird
mittenedman : 12/1/2020 1:52 pm : link
but Saquon Barkley going down may've been the best thing that happened to the OL. Teams were run blitzing the HELL out of the Giants looking to eliminate Barkley. Almost impossible to get anything going.

It was disturbing that we couldn't take advantage of it with the pass but the blitz would just continue to the QB.

Defenses are playing us differently now, which has allowed the run game to take shape.
Agreed
LBH15 : 12/1/2020 2:03 pm : link
Having Barkley on the field is killing this team.

:-)
I'm thoroughly convinced that for Baldy

I believe that was because teams could, it was too easy to focus on Barkley because there was no threat to pass efficiently. Add in the fumbles and why wouldn’t they stack 8? We also didn’t have Shepard and Engram was playing horribly. Just brutal start to the season at every position on offense.
Baldy is fun to listen to

If you run blitz Barkley, he moves laterally. If you run blitz Gallman he sticks it in there, dives for a yard or no gain, but, if you don't make the tackle he will get first down. Gallman isn't going 80 but he grinds for inches.
Naaa, that isn’t the reason
UConn4523 : 12/1/2020 3:04 pm : link
I know it’s the flavor of the month hot take but the OL was wretched. Jones was terrible. Barkley finally started getting daylight and then his knee blew. Believe what you want though.
Watch how Seattle plays us this week.
Ten Ton Hammer : 12/1/2020 3:31 pm : link
They'll load up the box and dare McCoy to pass. I expect it will be a challenge for this group because of being limited in the pass game.

The OL is playing better because Jones was playing better and they finally have a WR who can beat coverages consistently on 3rd down in Shepard.

Most things in football are systemic. You can't run if you can't pass efficiently. You can't pass if you can't run efficiently.
Where did he grow up?

You would never know it when he did analysis for the network but, now it seems obvious.

When, Most here wanted Gettleman's head because "he blew it with this years draft .... etc"

This is the first year these guys have played together !!!

I am surprised they are doing it this quick .. when others were saying they were a complete failure (implying they weren't doing it fast enough?).

12 games together ....

"Dexter Lawrence is off the bench ... Go Go Go!"
short lease : 12/1/2020 7:38 pm : link

The reason why I love this team more than ever in recent years is because they legitimately seem to LOVE each other and root for each other. Experience will come with time and talent will come with future drafts but, right now they seem to have a great locker room culture and a cohesive team vision that is imperative to success in any team sport.

Love it - love all of it.

Ira : 12/1/2020 8:34 pm : link
if they can hold a line of Thomas, Lemieux, Gates, Hernandez and Peart together it will be one of the top lines in the Giants history.
